  • Victim Offender Mediation in Sweden : An Activity Falling Apart?
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Nordic Mediation Research. - Cham : Springer. - 9783319730189 - 9783319730196 ; , s. 67-79
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In Sweden, the government has invested considerable resources to implement victim offender mediation (VOM) for young people (under the age of 21). Despite this, the number of mediations is decreasing. What appears to be a gap between the legislator’s intentions and practical applications raises questions about the reasons for this gap and the premises for mediation in penal matters in Sweden today. Our purpose in this article is to highlight and discuss some circumstances that can explain this decrease and the future of VOM in Sweden. We start by discussing the development of VOM in Sweden and continue by analysing possible reasons for why mediation is declining. The conclusion is that the decrease can be explained by problems related to legal and organisational structures as well as mediation practice. The conclusion is also that if the state and municipalities do not show more interest in VOM and restorative justice, then this activity will probably disappear.

  • Business Netquakes : Analysing Relatedness of Events in Dynamic Business Networks
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Extending the Business Network Approach. - Basingstoke : Palgrave Macmillan. - 9781137537638 - 9781137537652 ; , s. 315-331
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • One crucial, recurring challenge for business managers involves taking the right action when pressured to change from resource investment in a business relationship to the pausing or termination of such, which, in some situations may dissolve the relationship completely. In that ongoing quest, a substantial part of the information necessary for the managers’ choice of path of action stems from the past, current and potential future in the specific business relationship. However, to rely solely on the available information in the relationship is, in most situations, insufficient to select appropriate managerial action. The notion that business relationships are better understood as part of business networks is well established (see, e.g., Ford et al. 2002; Håkansson and Snehota 1995), consequently suggesting that further information, potentially vital for the choice of managerial action, can be sourced within the immediate surrounding business network.

  • An Emerging Posthumanist Design Landscape
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Palgrave Handbook of Critical Posthumanism. - Cham : Palgrave Macmillan. - 9783030426811 - 9783030426811 - 9783031049576 - 9783031049583
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A designer is somebody who points, who designates, and gives directions. Design thereby has a direction into the future. What directions are designers pointing out if design is coupled with posthumanism? Posthumanism has come into being in a landscape of both ideas and design. That which has previously been designed and produced is coming back and it can help us point out harmful inequalities if we sharpen our observational tools and concepts.“An Emerging Posthumanist Design Landscape” is an overflowing designated area for examples and thinking on compositions of design and critical posthumanism. It is a landscape in the making, yet scarred by previous design cultures and histories. As design researchers operating out of Scandinavian academia, we invite readers/travelers to meander through an emerging hybrid landscape and to make a few selected stops at the sites of our own recent design interventions. We articulate concepts, frictions, and opportunities sprouted in a sprawling and increasingly populated landscape of design and posthumanism. Posthumanist thinking questions and recharges fundamental design concepts and methods/approaches, e.g.: Who are the actors of posthumanist design? Where does it take place? What do we design? What materials do we use? How do we work? When does design take place? Why are compositions of design and critical posthumanism important undertakings? The responses to these questions sketch trajectories for further travels and the co-creation of an emerging posthumanist design landscape.

  • Modeling Intracellular Signaling Underlying Striatal Function in Health and Disease
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Computational Neuroscience. - Amsterdam : Elsevier. - 9780123978974 ; 123, s. 277-304
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Striatum, which is the input nucleus of the basal ganglia, integrates cortical and thalamic glutamatergic inputs with dopaminergic afferents from the substantia nigra pars cornpacta. The combination of dopamine and glutamate strongly modulates molecular and cellular properties of striatal neurons and the strength of corticostriatal synapses. These actions are performed via intracellular signaling networks, containing several intertwined feedback loops. Understanding the role of dopamine and other neuromodulators requires the development of quantitative dynamical models for describing the intracellular signaling, in order to provide precise unambiguous descriptions and quantitative predictions. Building such models requires integration of data from multiple data sources containing information regarding the molecular interactions, the strength of these interactions, and the subcellular localization of the molecules. Due to the uncertainty, variability, and sparseness of these data, parameter estimation techniques are critical for inferring or constraining the unknown parameters, and sensitivity analysis evaluates which parameters are most critical for a given observed macroscopic behavior. Here, we briefly review the modeling approaches and tools that have been used to investigate biochemical signaling in the striatum, along with some of the models built around striatum. We also suggest a future direction for the development of such models from the, now becoming abundant, high-throughput data.

  • The shared duty of special educational support in mathematics : borders and spaces in degree ordinances for pre-service teachers
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Borders in mathematics pre-service teacher education. - Cham : Springer. - 9783030442910 - 9783030442927 ; , s. 141-161
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This chapter investigates the future shared duties of special education pre-service teachers in mathematics and mathematics pre-service teachers for primary school to support students in need of support in mathematics. Within the Swedish context, teacher education training policy frames special education teachers in mathematics (STms) as the historians of schooling, in that they carry specific knowledge about how students in need of support have been treated earlier, and recognise that current practices and policies have been motivated by the history and culture of Swedish schools. This framing also suggests that they have the expertise in supporting students in need of special support and an understanding of specific disabilities or prerequisites for learning that these students can have. In contrast, mathematics teachers for primary school (MTPs) are framed as being responsible for the overall education taking place in classrooms, being willing to collaborate and learn from other professions involved in the students learning and development, and needing to pay attention to those other professions’ experiences and knowledge. In addition, the teacher education training policy indicates that MTPs are supposed to cooperate, listen, and reflect, whereas STms are to lead, be independent, analyse, and drive school development. Furthermore, the position, role, and authority of STms are not supported by the Swedish Education Act. This together with the sometimes contradictory roles identified by each of the profession’s goals in their degree ordinance could put MTPs’ and STms’ shared duties at risk, and creates a need for negotiation. A possible way forward, in order to counteract this risk, might be shared courses during teacher training. This could presumably prepare for future negotiations and collaborations of roles and responsibilities.
