  • Structured time observation of human modelling tool users' activites.
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: In: Proceedings of 16th Triennial World Congress on Ergonomics, International Ergonomics Association, 2006, July 10-14, Maastricht, The Netherlands..
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Most statements regarding human modeling tools efficiency are based on perceived time. No structured timeobservation of task activities performed by a simulation engineers working with the tools are previous performed. The aim of the study is to identify digital human modelling tool users’ activates and measure the time distributionof the activities. Furthermore, measured time distribution is compared with users perceived time distribution.Five simulation engineers at Volvo were observed for five days each. The simulation engineers’ activities can becategorised in twelve groups. The direct value added work and the indirect value added work important for a newintroduced tool were of similar size as direct value added work for a vehicle disassembly worker. Waiting time, theresimulation is out of control e.g. waiting for information from colleague and computer processor, was perceived muchlonger compared to measured time. The human modelling tool seems to have matured and most of the activities identified seems to be necessary to perform human modelling simulations of high quality; however the time distribution could to some extend be questioned. There are a lot of activities associated with communication, i.e. different kinds of contacts and meetings. Therefore it appears to be a potential to increase efficiency with respect to communication.

  • Coulomb excitation of Sn-110 using REX-ISOLDE
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Physica Scripta. - 1402-4896 .- 0031-8949. ; T125, s. 190-191
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper, we report the preliminary result from the first Coulomb excitation experiment at REX-ISOLDE (Habs et al 1998 Nucl. Instrum. Methods B 139 128) using neutron-deficient Sn-beams. The motivation of the experiment is to deduce the reduced transition probability, B(E2; 2(+) -> 0(+)), for the sequence of neutron deficient, unstable, even-even Sn- isotopes from Sn-110 to ultimately Sn-110. Safe Coulomb excitation using a radioactive beam opens up a new path to study the lifetime of the first excited 2(+) state in these isotopes. The de-excitation path following fusion-evaporation reactions will for the even-even Sn isotopes pass via an isomeric 6(+) state, located at higher energy, which thus hampers measurements of the lifetime of the first excited state using, e. g., recoil-distance methods. For this reason the reduced transition probability of the first excited 2(+) state has remained unknown in this chain of isotopes although the B(E2) value of the stable isotope Sn-112 was measured approximately 30 years ago (see, e. g., Stelson et al 1970 Phys. Rev. C 2 2015). Our experiment is thus the first to accomplish a measurement of this quantity in Sn-110. It is believed that the determination of the B(E2) value in Sn-110 will indicate the turnover point from a trend of increasing B(E2) values for the heavier isotopes to a trend characterized by less collectivity. Our first preliminary result indicates that this assumption may well be correct.

  • EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATIONS OF A LOW WEBER LIQUID SPRAY IN AIR CROSS FLOW
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: ICLASS 2006 - 10th International Conference on Liquid Atomization and Spray Systems.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A Low Weber water spray subjected to an air cross flow has been investigated. The spray is characterized by low liquid injection velocity, producing a column that is broken up by aerodynamic forces from the oncoming air. PIV and PDA have been used to quantify both the continuous and dispersed phases. Long range microscopy has been used to characterize the column breakup process. It has been shown that bubbles (akin to droplet bag breakup) may form already in the column.

  • The Ab Initio No-core Shell Model
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Few-Body Systems. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1432-5411 .- 0177-7963. ; 45:2, s. 111-
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This contribution reviews a number of applications of the ab initio no-core shell model (NCSM) within nuclear physics and beyond. We will highlight a nuclear-structure study of the A = 12 isobar using a chiral NN + 3NF interaction. In the spirit of this workshop we will also mention the new development of the NCSM formalism to describe open channels and to approach the problem of nuclear reactions. Finally, we will illustrate the universality of the many-body problem by presenting the recent adaptation of the NCSM effective-interaction approach to study the many-boson problem in an external trapping potential with short-range interactions. This article is based on the presentation by C. Forssén at the Fifth Workshop on Critical Stability, Erice, Sicily.

  • Comparison of combustion properties between a synthetic jet fuel and conventional jet A1
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the ASME Turbo Expo. ; 2
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Aviation fuel is a petroleum product that fulfills the Standard Specification for Aviation Turbine Fuels. Crude oil has been the raw material for production of aviation fuels for many years. Since the availability of crude oil is predicted to be limited in the future, alternative raw materials for aviation fuels are highly desirable. A Swedish company, Oroboros AB, has developed a novel clean synthetic jet fuel, LeanJet. The fuel is produced synthetically from synthesis gas (Syngas) by the Fischer-Tropsch process. A comparative experimental investigation of combustion properties has been performed, comparing the synthetic jet fuel with Jet A1. The following parameters were investigated in an atmospheric combustor, which was originally designed for a Volvo Aero turbine (VT40): Emissions of NOx, CO and HC Ignition and extinction points Liner temperatures Soot levels in the combustor. The emission measurements showed good combustion efficiency with low HC and CO for both fuels. With very lean mixtures, however, both the CO and the HC levels increased for the synthetic fuel. The nitrous oxides for the synthetic jet fuel were reduced over the operation conditions investigated. Qualitative reduction of soot levels was also seen for the synthetic jet fuel. The fuels showed no difference in material temperature along the combustor wall. Small differences in ignition characteristics were found, but no differences in extinction were observed. Copyright

  • New structure information on Mg-30, Mg-31 and Mg-32
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal A. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1434-601X .- 1434-6001. ; 25, s. 105-109
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The fast timing beta gamma gamma(t) method was applied to investigate the level lifetimes in Mg-30,Mg-31,Mg-32. Levels in Mg have been populated in beta and beta-delayed neutron emission of Na, at the ISOLDE facility. From the gamma gamma coincidences a number of new states have been identified and new level schemes were constructed for 30 31,32 Mg. The following preliminary half lives have been determined: T-1/2 = 3.9(4) ns for the 1789 keV state in Mg-30, T-1/2 = 133(8) ps and 10.5(8) us for the 221 keV and 461 keV states in Mg-31, respectively, and T1/2 = 16(4) ps for the 885 keV level in 32Mg. The 1789 keV level was established as a candidate for the intruder 0(+) configuration in Mg-30 with a possible strong E0 branch to the ground state.
