  • A simple and robust deep convolutional approach to blind image denoising
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Proceedings - 2019 International Conference on Computer Vision Workshop, ICCVW 2019. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc.. - 9781728150239 ; , s. 3943-3951
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Image denoising, particularly Gaussian denoising, has achieved continuous success in the past decades. Although deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs) are also shown leading high-performance in Gaussian denoising just as in many other computer vision tasks, they are not competitive at all on real noisy photographs to representative classical methods such as BM3D and WNNM. In this paper, a simple yet robust method is proposed to improve the effectiveness and practicability of deep denoising models. In view of the difference between real-world noise in camera systems and additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN), the model learning has exploited clean-noisy image pairs newly produced built on a generalized signal dependent noise model. During the model inference, the proposed denoising model is not only blind to the noise type but also to the noise level. Meanwhile, in order to separate the noise from image content as full as possible, a new convolutional architecture is advocated for such a blind denoising task where a kind of lifting residual modules is specifically proposed for discriminative feature extraction. Experimental results on both simulated and real noisy images demonstrate that the proposed blind denoiser achieves fairly competitive or even better performance than state-of-the-art algorithms in terms of both quantitative and qualitative assessment. The codes of the proposed method are available at https://github.com/zhaohengyuan1/SDNet.

  • Age-related lysosomal dysfunction: an unrecognized roadblock for cobalamin trafficking?
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Cellular and Molecular Life Sciences (CMLS). - : Springer Verlag (Germany). - 1420-682X .- 1420-9071. ; 68:24, s. 3963-3969
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Vitamin-B(12) is a generic term for corrinoid compounds that exhibit the biological activity of cyanocobalamin and are collectively referred to as cobalamins. Methylcobalamin and 5-deoxyadenosylcobalamin are the active cobalamins in human metabolism. Cobalamin plays a crucial role in the maintenance of homocysteine and methylmalonyl-CoA homeostasis and is required for erythrocyte formation and DNA synthesis. Data from human and animal studies indicate that cobalamin deficiency impairs neuronal function; a process that is thought to contribute to age-related cognitive decline and dementia. Cobalamin deficiency also results in dysfunction of the peripheral nervous system; among other disorders. Although there is a detailed understanding of the biochemical pathways that are perturbed in cobalamin deficiency, the mechanisms underlying age-related dyshomeostasis in such pathways remain to be addressed. Because cobalamin utilization is dependent on its efficient transit through lysosomes, and mounting evidence indicates that lysosomal function deteriorates in aging long-lived post-mitotic cells such as neurons, in the present article we review published data that supports the proposition that impaired lysosomal processing of cobalamin may play a significant role in age-related (neuro) degenerative diseases.

  • Contextual Awareness on Organizational Crises : National Contexts and Crisis Attribution
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Public Relations Inquiry. - 2046-147X. ; 9:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study examines the influences of national contexts on crisis attribution to address the recent appeal for a more contextually sensitive perspective in crisis communication research. Specifically, this study revisits the Situational Crisis Communication Theory (SCCT) in the Chinese context by taking an online discussion on Weibo about a high-profile homicide in a McDonald’s restaurant as the case. Built on the framing theory and categorization of national contexts, an inductive framing analysis of 100 top forwarded posts demonstrates a complex negotiation process of context-embedded frames and its significant impacts on crisis attribution. The model of SCCT is then refined by integrating national contexts into the concept of “modifier.” Implications for both theory and practice are also discussed.

  • Explicating the social constructionist perspective on crisis communication and crisis management research : a review of communication and business journals
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Journal of Public Relations Research. - 1062-726X. ; 32:3-4, s. 98-119
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • There is a growing body of literature concerning the social construction of crisis. This study aimed to clarify inconsistencies regarding the social constructionist perspective by examining how the key terms of social constructionism are applied in crisis communication and crisis management studies. Through an analysis of 65 scholarly works in both communication and business journals, this study proposes a four-dimensional model of social constructionist crisis research (SCCR): (1) cause–the objective facticity and subjective meaning of crisis; (2) text–a constitutive view of language; (3) meaning–multiple actors and multiple realities; and (4) context–societal context awareness. Next, three approaches to SCCR are identified: a terminological approach, a framing approach, and a complexity-based approach. Lastly, the implications of social constructionism for theory and methodology development in crisis communication are discussed.

  • Durability and mechanical properties of silane cross-linkedwood thermoplastic composites
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Composites Science And Technology. - : Elsevier BV. - 0266-3538 .- 1879-1050. ; 67:13, s. 2728-2738
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this study, silane cross-linked wood-polyethylene composite profiles were manufactured by reactive extrusion. These composites were evaluated regarding their durability and mechanical properties in comparison with two non-cross-linked wood-polyethylene composites. An addition of only 2% w/w of silane solution during manufacturing was enough to achieve almost 60% degree of cross-linking after curing. The cross-linked composites showed flexural toughness superior to the non-cross-linked composites. The cross-linked composites also absorbed less moisture during a boiling test in water and this was an indirect evidence of improved interfacial adhesion. After accelerated weathering for 1000-3000 h the general trend was a decrease in flexural modulus and strength of both the non-cross-linked and cross-linked composites. The decrease in modulus seemed to be lower for the cross-linked composites while the decrease in strength seemed to be higher compared to the non-cross-linked composites. Weathering also resulted in a considerable colour fading of the composites. Water absorption-freeze-thaw cycling decreased the flexural modulus of non-cross-linked composites considerably while there was no statistical decrease in modulus for the cross-linked composites. There was only an insignificant decrease in strength for the composites after the water absorption-freeze-thaw cycling.

  • Transparent plywood as a load-bearing and luminescent biocomposite
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Composites Science And Technology. - : Elsevier. - 0266-3538 .- 1879-1050. ; 164, s. 296-303
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Transparent wood (TW) structures in research studies were either thin and highly anisotropic or thick and isotropic but weak. Here, transparent plywood (TPW) laminates are investigated as load-bearing biocomposites with tunable mechanical and optical performances. Structure-property relationships are analyzed. The plies of TPW were laminated with controlled fiber directions and predetermined stacking sequence in order to control the directional dependence of modulus and strength, which would give improved properties in the weakest direction. Also, the angular dependent light scattering intensities were investigated and showed more uniform distribution. Luminescent TPW was prepared by incorporation of quantum dots (QDs) for potential lighting applications. TPW can be designed for large-scale use where multiaxial load-bearing performance is combined with new optical functionalities.
