  • Ab initio investigation of the Invar anomaly in ordered fcc Fe-Pt alloys
  • 2005
  • In: Physical Review B. Condensed Matter and Materials Physics. - 1098-0121 .- 1550-235X. ; 72:6
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The magnetovolume anomaly in ordered fcc Fe-Pt Invar alloys is studied by ab inito Korringa-Kohn-Rostoker atomic-sphere approximation technique in the framework of density-functional theory. The paramagnetic state above the magnetic ordering transition temperature is treated using the disordered local moment (DLM) approach. We show that the DLM approach is able to describe and explain the Invar anomaly in ordered Fe-rich Fe-Pt alloys similarly to our previous work for the disordered modification. In particular, our calculations predict the weakening of the Invar anomaly in chemically ordered compositions as compared to the disordered case as well as a decreasing magnetovolume anomaly with increasing Pt concentrations for both ordered and disordered cases in full agreement with experimental observations. The detailed study of the Fe3Pt compound with varying chemical long-range order has revealed a continuously decreasing spontaneous volume magnetostriction with increasing degree of order. This can be understood from the corresponding band structure of random and ordered alloys.

  • Temperature dependence of (111) and (110) ceria surface energy
  • 2023
  • In: Physical Review B. - : American Physical Society (APS). - 2469-9950 .- 2469-9969. ; 107:3
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • High-temperature properties of ceria surfaces are important for many applications. Here, we report the temperature dependencies of surface energy for (111) and (110) CeO2 obtained in the framework of the extended two-stage up-sampled thermodynamic integration using Langevin dynamics. The method was used together with machine-learning potentials called moment tensor potentials (MTPs), which were fitted to the results of the ab initio molecular dynamics calculations for (111) and (110) CeO2 at different temperatures. The parameters of MTP training and fitting were tested, and the optimal algorithm for the ceria systems was proposed. We found that the temperature increases from 0 to 2100 K led to the decrease of the Helmholtz free energy of (111) CeO2 from 0.78 to 0.64 J/m2. The energy of (110) CeO2 dropped from 1.19 J/m2 at 0 K to 0.92 J/m2 at 1800 K. We show that it is important to consider anharmonicity, as simple consideration of volume expansion gives the wrong temperature dependencies of the surface energies.

  • Co-evolution of producer services and other sectors
  • 2013
  • In: Advances in Spatial Science. - Berlin, Heidelberg : Springer International Publishing. ; , s. 47-72, s. 47-72
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • A major characteristic of the economic development in Sweden during the past 10–15 years is a fast expansion of the producer-service sector. To analyse this process, the present paper employs an approach to identify the spatial pattern of local, regional and extra-regional demand for producer services. In the associated theoretical model producer-service firms grow in locations with large market access. The estimated model predicts that the supply of producer services grows in urban areas with large market access, whereas the rest of the economy shrinks in the same areas and expands in other parts of the urban region. The change process is interpreted as an effect of firms’ outsourcing of service activities when they can rely on accessibility to service suppliers. As a result service suppliers agglomerate in central parts of the urban region, where they obtain high accessibility to their customers. The estimated change process comprises a non-linear response mechanism.
