  • Use of the Nutrition Care Process and Nutrition Care Process Terminology in an International Cohort Reported by an Online Survey Tool
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. - : Elsevier BV. - 2212-2672 .- 2212-2680. ; 119:2, s. 225-241
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: Dietitians in countries across the world have been implementing the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) and Terminology (NCPT) during the past decade. The implementation process has been evaluated in specific countries and in smaller international studies; however, no large international study comparing implementation between countries has been completed. Objective: The aim of this study was to describe and compare the level of NCP/NCPT implementation across 10 countries. Methods: A previously tested web-based survey was completed in 2017 by 6,719 dietitians across 10 countries. Participants were recruited through e-mail lists, e-newsletters, and social media groups for dietitians. Nondietitians were excluded through screening questions and targeted dissemination channels.Main outcome measures and statistical analysis: The main outcome of interest was the level of implementation of each of the four NCP steps. Differences in implementation between the NCP (process) and NCPT (terminology) were also measured. Differences between groups were assessed using Kruskal-Wallis test and Mann-Whitney U test. Multiple linear regression was used to assess relationships between the main outcomes and respondent demographic information. Results: Australia, New Zealand, and the United States had higher implementation rates compared with other countries surveyed. Awareness of the NCP was high in most countries (>90%) but lower in Greece (50%). All countries had a higher implementation level of the NCP (process) compared with the NCPT (terminology). Dietitians working with inpatients reported the highest implementation levels while those working in public health reported the lowest. Conclusions: Dietitians in countries with more experience in NCP/NCPT implementation and a clear implementation strategy had higher levels of implementation. To achieve a successful NCP/NCPT implementation among dietitians, there is a need to promote the value of a standardized dietetic language together with the more easily implemented process. There is also a need to promote NCP/NCPT for all areas of practice, and develop strategic plans for implementation of the NCP and NCPT.

  • Reliability and validity of measurement and associations between disability and behavioural factors in patients with Colles' fracture
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Physiotherapy Theory and Practice. - : Informa UK Limited. - 0959-3985 .- 1532-5040. ; 28:3, s. 188-197
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The aims of the study were to 1) investigate the test-retest reliability, the internal consistency in instruments that measure behavioural factors and disability as well as to investigate convergent validity between the Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand Outcome Questionnaire (DASH) and the Patient-Rated Wrist Evaluation (PRWE), in patients with Colles' fracture; and 2) assess the relationship between the behavioural measures and the region-specific measures addressing the patient perceptions of impairment, functional loss, and disability. Two samples (sample 1 = 16; sample 2 = 16) of patients with the fracture immobilised in plaster cast were included. The participants answered the Patient-Rated Wrist Evaluation (PRWE), Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand Outcome Questionnaire (DASH), Tampa Scale of Kinesophobia (TSK), Catastrophizing Subscale (CAT) of the Coping Strategies Questionnaire (CSQ), and Self-Efficacy Scale (SES) twice. Test-retest reliability was satisfactory for all instruments. The internal consistency examined with Cronbach's alpha was between 0.68 and 0.97. Because acceptable to good test-retest reliability and internal consistency were demonstrated for the PRWE, DASH, TSK, CAT of the CSQ, and SES, they can be used to detect and monitor fear of movement/(re)injury, catastrophic cognitions, and self-efficacy in patients with radius fracture in the acute and subacute phase. Generally low to moderate correlations were found between behavioural and region-specific measures, indicating that there are two distinct concepts that are not interchangeable.

  • Blogging for Reputation : An analysis of how Swedish universities address different governing system via social media
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: The Governance of Modern Universities.
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Universities are exposed to a variety of external forces that influence the way they are managed and organized. In this paper we examine how these principles are given space in the way universities communicate. We do this by analyzing how the university management - in this case Swedish universities’ Vice-chancellors – describe, promote and explain their organizations via official blogs. The paper builds on a framework where university governance is understood as based on a relationship between state, profession and market, and as driven by three forms of social judgments - legitimacy, status and reputation. From a total of fourteen VC blogs, 1330 posts are analyzed according to three sets of arguments: 1) legitimacy arguments driven by political outcome; 2) status arguments driven by professional values and boundaries; and 3) reputation arguments driven by market consequences. The results reflect a dominance of reputation aspects, highlighting the centrality of market principles in communication and university governance.

  • Dancing Together Alone : Inconsistencies and Contradictions of Strategic Communication in Swedish Universities
  • 2017
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Organizations increasingly use communication as a strategic function to maneuver in a challenging, complex, and demanding social landscape. Based on assumptions of centralized control and planning, the strategic communication concept aims for coordination and consistency of communication. Implied is a view of actors as intentional, rational, and deliberate decision makers. Such a conventional view on strategic communication, however, cannot satisfactorily explain the underlying characteristics of communication practices in contemporary organizations. Nor does it explain how organizational members in their everyday work interpret and relate to such practices. This thesis adopts neo-institutional theory and the translation approach to study how strategic communication operates along an institutionalized recipe for communication that through various translations is reformulated to fit local organizational contexts and preferences of the people occupying these contexts. To illustrate the process of both following and adapting the institutionalized recipe of strategic communication, qualitative and quantitative material on the role of social media in sixteen Swedish universities are examined. The material is generated and gathered through an ethnographically inspired approach and includes: interviews, a six-month observation period, the study of documents, and a content analysis of Vice-Chancellor blogs. The findings show that work with social media is pervaded with inconsistencies and contradictions, but simultaneously relating to a shared recipe for communication. Shared elements for communication at the universities include the purposes for communication, notion of one university and integration. However, in translations people rely on local organizational conditions, personal values, ambitions, and experiences. This produces tensions between: control and independence, centralization and decentralization, and one voice and multiple voices. The findings suggest that translations differ across universities and between communicators on different levels, some being more “true” to the recipe than others. Thus, differences are inevitable, underscoring the issues of managing and controlling communication in the conventional approach of strategic communication. As a result, the empirical and theoretical concept of strategic communication benefits from acknowledging its social embeddedness and local recontextualization.Strategic communication is like dancing to music. Everyone hears the music, but the dance varies with each dancer ́s experiences, ambitions, and opportunities.
