  • Sub-national TIMES model for analyzing future regional use of biomass and biofuels in Sweden and France
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Renewable Energy. - : Elsevier BV. - 0960-1481. ; 60, s. 415-426
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The objective of this study is to improve evaluations of the future use of biomass sources in Sweden and France by representing the high spatial variations of the supply and cost of biomass sources in energy system models, The proposed methodology considers a high spatial disaggregation of biomass supply sources, as well as detailed biomass cost supply curves, and is thereby able to account for spatial differences in heterogeneous land qualities, management strategies, and possible adaptation rates. Integrating the methodology into national or regional energy system models will enhance cost-effective evaluations of biomass sources as well as the development of the bioenergy sector. A TIMES energy system model was used to evaluate bioenergy production potential for France and Sweden based on domestic biomass sources and under the assumption that bioenergy production should not be at the expense of domestic food and forestry supply. Results show that by 2050, the biomass sources considered could provide as much as 250 PJ of bioenergy in Sweden, and 1470 PJ of bioenergy in France. Results further showed that 1st generation biofuels are likely to continue to play a substantial role in the biofuel mix. While 2nd generation biofuel production in Sweden is likely to be low, larger amounts of 2nd generation biofuels could be produced in France. However, the amount and type of 2nd generation biofuel produced in France was found to be highly dependent on the bioenergy demand level. (C) 2013 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

  • Genetic diversity, population structure and linkage disequilibrium in Nordic spring barley (Hordeum vulgare L. subsp vulgare)
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Genetic Resources and Crop Evolution. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0925-9864 .- 1573-5109. ; 64, s. 2021-2033
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Genetic diversity, population structure and genome-wide linkage disequilibrium (LD) was estimated in Nordic spring barley (Hordeum vulgare L. subsp. vulgare) by genotyping 180 breeding lines with 48 SSR markers and 7842 high-confidence SNPs using the Illumina Infinium 9K assay. In total 6208 SNPs were polymorphic and selected for further statistical analysis. A Mantel test revealed a strong positive correlation with a Pearson's correlation coefficient (r) of 0.86, between the estimates of genetic distances based on SSR and SNP data. Population structure analysis identified two groups with a clear ancestry and one group with an admixed ancestry. The groups were primarily separated based on row-type and geographical origin. Average LD for the whole population decayed below a critical level of r(2) = 0.20 within a range of 0-4 cM. To avoid confounding effects of the strong population structure, LD decay for the different groups was analysed separately and ranged from 0 to 12 cM. A slower LD decay was found within the two-rowed lines compared to the six-rowed lines and the two-rowed lines originating from the northern part, which could be the result of strong selection for malting quality and yield in the southern part. No large difference in genetic diversity was observed between population sub-groups, but differences at certain chromosomal regions were evident.

  • Optimal Freight Train Classification using Column Generation
  • 2012. - 9
  • Ingår i: 12th Workshop on Algorithmic Approaches for Transportation Modelling, Optimization, and Systems, September 13, 2012, Ljubljana, Slovenia. - Dagstuhl, Germany : Schloss Dagstuhl--Leibniz-Zentrum fuer Informatik. - 9783939897453 ; , s. 10-22
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We consider planning of freight train classification at hump yards using integer programming. The problem involves the formation of departing freight trains from arriving trains subject to scheduling and capacity constraints. To increase yard capacity, we allow the temporary storage of early freight cars on specific mixed-usage tracks. The problem has previously been modeled using a direct integer programming model, but this approach did not yield lower bounds of sufficient quality to prove optimality. In this paper, we formulate a new extended integer programming model and design a column generation approach based on branch-and-price to solve problem instances of industrial size. We evaluate the method on historical data from the Hallsberg hump yard in Sweden, and compare the results with previous approaches. The new method managed to find optimal solutions in all of the 192 problem instances tried. Furthermore, no instance took more than 13 minutes to solve to optimality using fairly standard computer hardware.

  • Revascularization Deferral of Nonculprit Stenoses on the Basis of Fractional Flow Reserve : 1-Year Outcomes of 8,579 Patients
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: JACC: Cardiovascular Interventions. - : Elsevier BV. - 1936-8798. ; 13:16, s. 1894-1903
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: Intracoronary physiology is increasingly used in nonculprit stenoses of patients with acute coronary syndromes (ACS). However, evidence regarding the safety of fractional flow reserve-based deferral in patients with ACS, compared with patients with stable angina pectoris (SAP), is scarce. Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the safety of revascularization deferral on the basis of fractional flow reserve interrogation of nonculprit lesions in patients with ACS. Methods: A pooled analysis was performed of individual patient data included in 5 large international published studies on physiology-guided revascularization. The primary endpoint was major adverse cardiac events (MACE) (a composite of death, nonfatal myocardial infarction, or unplanned revascularization) at 1-year follow-up. Clinical outcomes of patients with ACS and SAP were compared in both the deferred and the revascularized groups. Results: A total of 8,579 patients were included in the analysis, 6,461 with SAP and 2,118 with ACS and nonculprit stenoses. Using fractional flow reserve, revascularization was deferred in 5,129 patients (59.8%) and performed in 3,450 patients (40.2%). In the deferred ACS group, a higher MACE rate was observed compared with the deferred SAP group (4.46% vs. 2.83%; adjusted hazard ratio [HR]: 1.72; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.17 to 2.53; p < 0.01). In particular, early unplanned revascularization (3.34% and 2.04% in ACS and SAP; adjusted HR: 1.81; 95% CI: 1.09 to 3.00; p = 0.02) contributed to this excess in MACE but the difference between the ACS and SAP groups did not reach statistical significance. On the contrary, no differences in outcomes linked to clinical presentation were found in treated patients (MACE rate 6.51% vs. 6.20%; adjusted HR: 1.21; 95% CI: 0.88 to 1.26; p = 0.24). Conclusions: Patients with ACS in whom revascularization of nonculprit lesions was deferred on the basis of fractional flow reserve have more MACE at 1 year compared with patients with SAP with deferred revascularization. Unplanned revascularization mainly contributed to this excess of MACE.

  • Nano-Scratching resistance of high-chromium white cast iron and its correlation with wear of cBN tool in machining
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Journal of Superhard Materials. - 1063-4576. ; 39:5, s. 365-372
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper, a nano-scratch testing approach was used to measure and evaluate the abrasion wear resistance of high-chromium white cast irons in order to understand the wear mechanism in the interaction between the high-chromium white cast iron and the cBN cutting tool during the machining process. Scratch testing was performed on a nanoindentation instrument using a diamond indenter as the scratch tool. Linear multi-pass scratches in the same path were made on pre-worn surfaces of test materials. The correlation of the scratching resistance and tool wear measured from the machining is presented by the flank wear and maximum scratch depth. The appearance of the cutting edge on a cBN tool suggests that the abrasion wear is mainly related with a combined effect of the carbides and the matrix during machining the high-chromium white cast iron.

  • Rectal cancer survivorship : work loss and long-term morbidity
  • 2017
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • In the last few decades, due to early detection and advances in treatments, rectal cancer survival has been improved significantly. Meanwhile, rectal cancer survivors and health practitioners are facing more challenges arising from the disease, in terms of survivors’ longterm morbidity and work ability. The general aims of the register-based doctoral projects therefore include: 1). to evaluate the short- and long-term work loss in incident relapse-free rectal cancer survivors, together with the underlying association between work loss and survivors’ clinical characteristics; 2). to investigate the long-term cardiotoxicity in irradiated relapse-free rectal cancer survivors; 3). to systematically estimate the long-term drug use as a proxy for morbidity in relapse-free rectal cancer survivors. In Study I, we included 2815 curatively treated working-age rectal cancer patients without previous disability pension and their matched general comparators. After a median follow-up of 6 years (range 0-10 years), we found nearly one fourth relapse-free survivors and one tenth of their comparators were on disability pension listing, making the disability pension risk significantly doubled in the relapse-free survivors. Abdominoperineal resection was associated with higher disability pension risk than anterior resection. Surgical complications and reoperation also yielded more risk in survivors’ disability pension. In Study II, using the same study design as the previous study, we found the median work loss days during the 1st after treatment was 147 days and 336 days among relapse-free rectal cancer survivors without (n=2,529) and with (n=909) prediagnostic work loss history, respectively. Among those who had prediagnostic work loss, the post-treatment work loss varied very little by clinical characteristics; whereas among those without any prediagnostic work loss, advanced stage at diagnosis, operated with Abdominoperineal resection, neoadjuvant (chemo)radiotherapy treatment and surgical complications were all associated with higher work loss risk in survivors. In Study III, we included 14901 register-based (9227 received preoperative radiotherapy (RT) and surgery and 5674 were treated only with surgery) and 2675 trial-based (randomized into preoperative RT or not followed by surgery) relapse-free rectal cancer patients during a maximum follow-up of 18 and 33 years, respectively. We found no significant overall or subtypes of cardiovascular risk associated with preoperative RT. Although a slightly elevated risk of venous thromboembolism was noted in both cohorts during the first 6 months following treatment, the absolute number of patients affected was rather low, hence the safety of RT was further assured. In Study IV, we evaluated the detailed prescribed drug dispensing using defined daily doses (DDDs) by the Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical (ATC) classification among relapse-free rectal cancer patients across a maximum follow-up of 10 years. In comparison to the general population, rectal cancer survivors had a slight increase in overall drug use. While the survivors did acquire more drugs in digestive system, this could be due to both the long-term disease complications and potential prophylactic treatment.
