- Ett försök görs att precisera och granska begreppet "livskvalitet" med hjälp av en enkät till organisationer, speciellt tillfrågade personer och slumpade personer. Totalt erhölls 143 fritt avfattade svar på frågan "Vad skulle Ni personligen vilja ge för innebörd åt ordet ´livskvalitet´?" (Ordet personligen användes inte till organisationerna). Innehållet i svaren var mycket varierande och klassificerades i 25 kategorier, där "individens psykologiska egenskaper, upplevelser och aktiviteter" framstod som den vanligaste kategorin. Andra vanliga kategorier var "fysisk miljö", "förhållandet mellan människor", "politiskt system" och "arbete". Avslutningsvis görs ett försök att värdera begreppet "livskvalitet" och en kort bibliografi (4 sidor) ges.

- Criteria for measures of attitudinal polarization, i.e. degree of opposition among people on a specific issue, are proposed and some formulas, including the standard deviation, are evaluated in relation to the criteria. The formulas were also tested on empirical data with respect to level, dispersion and agreement of received values. The measures on the whole showed a high degree of agreement. There clearly exist instances where the standard deviation is not an adequate measure of attitudinal polarization. Some guidelines are given for the choice of constant values in one of the proposed formulas.

- The possibility of using the G index and its generalizations in the six basic factor analytic designs is discussed. For O- and Q-analyses G should be used if there is no mutual direction of all the variables, as G is invariant over variable reflection. In all the six designs G should also be used if the scale centre is more suitable as a reference point than the mean value.

- The two major purposes of this paper were: (1) to describe the theoretical background underlying the mathematical development of different measures of the degree of attitudinal polarization applicable to bipolar questions and (2) to outline a small FORTRAN IV program POLARI that provides a rapid means for calculation of four of these measures.
