    • Five hospitalized patients in different stages of Alzheimer-type dementia were monitored by unstructured, direct observations during morning care. Orem's model of nursing as a compensation for the patient's lack of self-care capabilities was used as a frame of reference for an analysis of the behaviours of patients and nurses during morning care. A 12-step classification system was developed to be used as a guide to understand and determine abilities essential for performance of morning care for demented patients. The quantitative assessment showed that none of the patients was able to manage morning care independently, but there was a wide variation in their highest level of performance

    • Early work by the Soviet psychologist Lev Vygostky was connected with the special education of the so-called "defective" children. Vygotsky constructed blindness, deafness, and other functional disorders in children as "defects"  in the social system that alienates them from the so-called normal people. In the chapter, I am analysing Vygotsky's representation of the blind child as a subject of proletarian revolution, and his method of psychological and pedagogical "correction" as an allegory of cultural revolution in general.

    • The Versus Maximiani or Elegies of Maximian were highly estimated for their ethical standard in the Middle Ages and were often copied and read. Throughout Europe you can still find about 50 more or less complete manuscripts containing the Elegies or some fragments of them. The text has also been edited several times.In about 350 elegiac distichs an old man, called Maximianus (IV 26), brags about his youth when he could surpass any man in every way, and laments his old age, which denies him the good things of life, above all love, of which he gives four examples from his own experience. The present work contains a new critical edition of the Elegies or rather Cycle of Elegies, built on a new reading of the manuscripts. A translation of the text into German has been made to increase the accessibility of the complex text.The introduction deals with two questions, which have intrigued scholars throughout the centuries: The dating of the poem and the identification of the author. A close reading of the text reveals new aspects on the structure and the purpose of the work, and on the identity of Maximianus, not as the author but as the target of a parodic and satiric lampoon.

    • Friedrich Julius Stahl was a leading 19th-century legal philosopher and constitutional lawyer. Legal historians in Germany have doubtless contributed to the strikingly critical appraisal of Stahl’s works. By dismissing them as speculative, orthodox and/or dated, they have created the impression of Stahl as an outlier within the Historical School of jurisprudence. Even Ernst Landsberg, a legal scholar with generally sound judgment, promoted this negative and ambiguous characterization of Stahl. In this essay, the hypothesis that an “overly” historical approach to the interpretation of Stahl’s works is one of the root causes behind his exceptionally “bad press” will be presented and discussed. An exaggerated focus on the historical person Stahl may, in fact, stand in the way of a more nuanced assessment of the man and his legacy.Am 29. November 2005 beschloss der Berliner Senat – „wegen fehlender Voraussetzungen“ – dem Grab Friedrich Julius Stahls den Ehrengrab-Status abzuerkennen. Ehrengrabstätten sind, laut der Ausführungsvorschriften zu § 12 Abs. 6 Friedhofsgesetz, Ausdruck der Ehrung Verstorbener mit besonderen Verdiensten, d.h.
