  • Exercise capacity in young adults after hematopoietic cell transplantation in childhood.
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: American Journal of Transplantation. - : Elsevier BV. - 1600-6135 .- 1600-6143. ; 18:2, s. 417-423
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A symptom-limited incremental cycle ergometer test was performed in 17 young adult patients treated with hematopoietic cell transplantation and total body irradiation for hematologic malignancies during childhood. These 17 young adult patients were compared with 17 sex- and age-matched healthy control subjects. Assessments of pulmonary function, cardiac function, body composition, and levels of growth hormone were made. The median follow-up was 17.7 years. Patients achieved 63.2% of the predicted peak workload, whereas controls achieved 96.1% (P < .001). All patients, but only 1 control, failed to achieve a peak workload >80% (P < .001). Fat-free mass was significantly lower (43.5 vs 57.6 kg, P < .001) and fat mass percentage was significantly higher (31.8% vs 24.2%, P = .011) in the patients. The peak workload adjusted for fat-free mass was significantly lower in the patients (3.3 vs 4.3, P < .001). In the patients, peak workload correlated significantly with total lung capacity (r = .54, P = .025). In summary, long-term survivors have significantly decreased exercise capacity compared with healthy individuals. Together with their altered body composition, this may predispose them to cardiovascular disease.

  • Effect of therapy switch on time to second-line antiretroviral treatment failure in HIV-infected patients
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Plos One. - : Public Library of Science (PLoS). - 1932-6203. ; 12:7
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background Switch from first line antiretroviral therapy (ART) to second-line ART is common in clinical practice. However, there is limited knowledge of to which extent different reason for therapy switch are associated with differences in long-term consequences and sustainability of the second line ART. Data from 869 patients with 14601 clinical visits between 1999-2014 were derived from the national cohort database. Reason for therapy switch and viral load (VL) levels at first-line ART failure were compared with regard to outcome of second line ART. Using the Laplace regression model we analyzed the median, 10th, 20th, 30th and 40th percentile of time to viral failure (VF). Most patients (n = 495; 57.0%) switched from first-line to second-line ART without VF. Patients switching due to detectable VL with (n = 124; 14.2%) or without drug resistance mutations (DRM) (n = 250; 28.8%) experienced VF to their second line regimen sooner (median time, years: 3.43 (95% CI 2.90-3.96) and 3.20 (95% 2.65-3.75), respectively) compared with those who switched without VF (4.53 years). Furthermore level of VL at first-line ART failure had a significant impact on failure of second-line ART starting after 2.5 years of second-line ART. In the context of life-long therapy, a median time on second line ART of 4.53 years for these patients is short. To prolong time on second-line ART, further studies are needed on the reasons for therapy changes. Additionally patients with a high VL at first-line VF should be more frequently monitored the period after the therapy switch.

  • On Communication. 4 / Om kommunikation. 4 : Selected papers from a seminar arranged by the Department of Communication Studies, on 3-4 June, 1986
  • 1987
  • Proceedings (redaktörskap) (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This report contains eight papers presented at the interdisciplinaryseminar arranged by the Department of Communication Studies, University of Linköping, on 3-4 June, 1986.The papers deal in different ways with the problem of distributing knowledge or with methods of describing and improving individualcompetence and skills in communicative situations, especially in classroom interaction. Three of the papers are concerned with knowledge and competence as being mainly social and cultural phenomena - the social transmission of knowledge, educational drama as a means of improv ing social competence, and music reviews as exponents of certain cultural communities. One paper discusses instructions as one way of disseminating knowledge and competence. The last four contributions discuss different levels of knowledgeand competence in various educational settings, such as teacher and pupil interaction, and the ways in which different perspectives on language  may cause misunderstandings and other communicative problems in language learning.

  • ON TEXTILE PRINTING WITH THERMOCHROMIC INKS
  • 2018
  • Konstnärligt arbete (utställning/event) (refereegranskat)abstract
    • What are thermochromic inks? They are colouring agents characterised by their ability to, when printed on textiles, change colour in response to temperature fluctuations. Below their activation temperature they are coloured, and above their activation temperature they are clear or have a light hue. They are usually blended with static pigments, allowing them to change from one colour to another. Do the thermochromic inks offer other design possibilities rather than only change from one colour to another? What if thermochromic inks are mixed with static pigments in different proportions? What is the behaviour of prints produced using these mixtures when they are heated or cooled? What if multiple colours could be concealed or revealed at once? What if thermochromic colour mixtures are printed in layers on top of each other? What if thermochromic inks have different activation temperatures? And what if the states of thermochromic colour transitions between non-heated, heated, and cooled are properly visualised?Marjan Kooroshnia is a textile designer and lecturer at the Swedish School of Textiles, University of Borås. Much of Marjan’s time as a Master’s student in Textile Design was spent at the printing lab, learning about thermochromic inksbehavior when printed on textiles and designing dynamic surface patterns. In her PhD research she has explored the design properties and potentials of leuco dye-based thermochromic inks when printed on textiles in order to obtain an understanding and facilitate the design of dynamic surface patterns. In this exhibition, she presents her Ph.D. thesis, in which she has investigated different methods to create diverse colour changing effects on textiles. The prints displayed in this exhibition show a wide range of aesthetic possibilities offered by thermochromic inks on textiles.

  • All-Carbon-Linked Continuous Three-Dimensional Porous Aromatic Framework Films with Nanometer-Precise Controllable Thickness
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Journal of the American Chemical Society. - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 0002-7863 .- 1520-5126. ; 142:14, s. 6548-6553
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Inherently porous materials that are chemically and structurally robust are challenging to construct. Conventionally, dynamic chemistry is thought to be needed for the formation of uniform porous organic frameworks, but dynamic bonds can limit the stability of these materials. For this reason, all-carbon-linked frameworks are expected to exhibit higher stability performance than more traditional porous frameworks. However, the limited reversibility of carbon-carbon bond-forming reactions has restricted the exploration of these materials. In particular, the challenges associated with producing uniform thin films of all-carbon-linked frameworks has inhibited the study of these materials in applications where well-defined films are required. Here, we synthesize continuous and homogeneous films of two different all-carbon-linked three-dimensional porous aromatic frameworks with nanometer-precision thickness (PAF-1 and BCMP-2). This was accomplished by kinetically promoting surface reactivity while suppressing homogeneous nucleation. Through connection of the PAF film to a gold substrate via a self-assembled monolayer and use of flow conditions to continually introduce monomers, smooth and continuous PAF films can be grown with controlled thickness. This strategy allows traditional transition metal mediated carbon-carbon cross-coupling reactions to form porous, organic thin films. We expect that the chemical principles uncovered in this study will enable the synthesis of a variety of chemically and structurally diverse carbon-carbon-linked frameworks as high-quality films, which are inaccessible by conventional methods.

  • Genetic association of glycemic traits and antihyperglycemic agent target genes with the risk of lung cancer: A Mendelian randomization study
  • Ingår i: Diabetes & metabolic syndrome. - 1871-4021.
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • AimsTo evaluate the potential causal effect of glycemic traits on lung cancer and investigate the impact of antihyperglycemic agent-target genes on lung cancer risk.MethodsGenetic variants associated with glycemic traits, antihyperglycemic agent-target genes, and lung cancer were extracted from the Meta-Analyses of Glucose and Insulin-related traits Consortium (MAGIC), expression quantitative trait loci (eQTLs), protein quantitative trait loci (pQTLs), and the International Lung Cancer Consortium (ILCCO), respectively. Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses were performed to examine the associations of glycemic traits and antihyperglycemic agent-target genes with lung cancer. Mediation analysis was conducted to explore whether overweight operated as a mediator between antihyperglycemic agents and lung cancer outcomes.ResultsGenetically determined glycated hemoglobin A1c levels were associated with squamous cell lung cancer (OR = 1.78; 95% CI, 1.08-2.92; p = 0.023). The PRKAB1 gene (the target of metformin) was associated with a lower risk of developing lung adenocarcinoma (OR = 0.85; 95% CI, 0.76-0.96; p = 0.006). Further mediation analyses did not support overweight as a mediator between PRKAB1 activation and lung adenocarcinoma.ConclusionOur analyses suggest an association of genetically determined abnormal glycemic traits with squamous cell lung cancer. The potential association between PRKAB1 activation and a reduced risk of developing lung adenocarcinoma appears to be independent of the anti-obesity effects of metformin, suggesting that PRKAB1 activation may have a direct protective effect on lung adenocarcinoma development.

  • MAMMUT – Managing the Metabolism of Urbanization : Testing Theory through a Pilot Study of the Stockholm Underground
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Sustainable Development. - : Wiley. - 0968-0802 .- 1099-1719. ; 14:5, s. 312-326
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The research project MAMMUT explores synergies between the processes of urbanization and sustainable development. In a pilot study, we tested the assumption that the concept of situations of opportunity can define the project's unit of analysis. We applied MAMMUT's conceptual framework to the Stockholm Underground, identified that situation's formative moment (1941, when main decisions were taken) and analysed its prehistory and factual outcome. To illustrate its field of options, a counterfactual highway and roads scenario was developed. For outcome and scenario, we outlined the resulting urban structure, the institutions of development and operation and the households' ways of life, and assessed environmental impacts. The situation concept was found to be useful for identifying and analysing synergies between urbanization and sustainable development. It needs to be further developed to study the relationships between its four disciplinary aspects. Applying it to futurological studies calls for methodological development including scenario techniques and backcasting.
