- Some patients in nursing homes require extra attention to enable staff todetect and manage deterioration at an early stage. Nursing skills are vital to makesystematic observations and assessments of a patient’s condition. It is challenging fornurses in nursing homes to make professional decisions without being able to consultother nurses. To improve the quality and safety of health care for patients and theirrelatives, the focus must be on working to ensure patient safety in nursing homes.Simulation-based learning can be one way to increase reflection on patient safety anddevelop health professionals’ knowledge, skills and attitudes, while protecting patientsfrom unnecessary risks. Simulation-based learning as a method in medical educa-tion offers activities that mimic a clinical environment, where students can practiceprocedures and decision-making and where their critical thinking can be enhancedthrough role-play, videos or simulators. While simulation often takes place in a sim-ulation center, in situ simulation refers to a learning activity that takes place in par-ticipants’ everyday work environment where they actually provide patient care. Inthis chapter, we aim to describe nurses’ experiences of in situ simulation and theirsubsequent reflections on patient safety in nursing homes. Data were collected fromtwo focus groups with 5–6 nurses per group. The transcribed material was analyzedusing qualitative content analysis, and two categories were identified that describedthe nurses’ experiences: “to doubt oneself ” and “being dependent on others”.

- Energy consumption in the Norwegian mainland economy 1835–2012A characteristic feature of the pre-industrial societies was that they relied on limited energy resources. It was only by using fossil fuels and new technologies that these societies could move the boundaries that the organic economy had set for production and consumption.Norwegian energy history is, from the 1900th Century on, about the movement of those boundaries and is composed of two stories. One deals with the mainland economy, the other deals with the foreign economy (the merchant marine, etc.). These two stories are closely connected but are nonetheless dissimilar.In this article, we present a sketch of the first story about energy consumption in the mainland economy, in the form of an energy accounting for the Norwegian mainland 1835–2012. The accounts show the accumulated consumption of energy from nine selected energy carriers in Norway. Our work is the first overall accounting 1835–2012, and gives new insights into the field of energy consumption research. Specifically, we provide a new accounting of Norwegian energy consumption in the years 1835–1900 and 1950–1976.In the result section we first present figures for energy consumption 1835–2012. Secondly, we briefly outline an energy history for the foreign sector. We round out the result section with a brief reflection on whether the Norwegian energy history is so deviant from other countries that we can talk about a separate Norwegian development.

- No one can disagree that it is important to combat antisemitism to the extent it is about anti-Jewish racism, hatred of Jews based on false religious and ideological convictions, and attacks on fundamental civil rights for Jews. At the same time, it can be just as legitimate to criticize Jewish religion and ideology as other types of religion and ideology. Both positive and negative beliefs about Jews as a group can have some degree of validity. In our time, hostile attitudes to Jews is particularly connected to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Jews in the diaspora are not responsible for Israel’s policy towards Palestinians. Nevertheless, they will risk being disliked to the extent they sympathize with Israel. The present article discusses these general points within the specific didactic context of combatting antisemitism in schools. Public ardor to eradicate antisemitism may be in conflict with the spirit of critical inquiry that the school system ought to promote in a “community of disagreement”.

Forfatterne beskriver funksjonshemmedes erfaringer og opplevelser og drøfter utfordringene funksjonshemmede selv, nærmiljøet, samfunnet og hjelpere møter.Noen viktige problemstillinger som boka tar opp er:* Hva er «typisk» på eldre dager - stiller alle eldre på lik linje?* Hvilke påkjenninger medfører «normalisering»?* Hvordan utfordres kjønnsidentiteten av funksjonsnedsettelser?* Hva innebærer det å være foreldre til en funksjonshemmet person gjennom et helt livsløp?* Hvilke utfordringer møter støtte- og hjelpeapparatet?* Hvor viktig er og hvordan formes og utvikles en handikappolitisk identitet?Funksjonshemmede mennesker lever lenger enn før og aldringsprosessen til mennesker med funksjonsnedsettelser stiller både samfunnet og tiltaks- og hjelpeapparatet overfor nye utfordringer. De to forskningsfeltene om «funksjonshemmede» og «eldre» har vært konsentrert om hver sin befolkningsgruppe. Denne boka forener de to feltene og omhandler spørsmål som tidligere knapt er belyst i forskning. Boka gir et kunnskapsgrunnlag for forståelse og samhandling mellom ulike faggrupper i tverrfaglig samarbeid.Livsløp med funksjonshemming er skrevet for helse- og sosialarbeidere og for studenter innen vernepleie, sykepleie, ergo- og fysioterapi, sosialt arbeid, medisin samt i de tverrfaglige videreutdanningene.
