- A fundamental understanding of the factors influencing particle shape is of central importance for optimisation of the output quality from crushing plants for aggregate production. The literature reports that the wear on and setting of a cone crusher influence particle shape, The fact that wear on and the setting of a cone crusher influence particle shape is considered common knowledge and is also reported in the literature. To date, no mathematical model for predicting particle shape has been presented. A novel model capable of predicting aggregate shape is presented in this paper. The particle flakiness model has two parameters: the average particle size of the feed and the closed side setting (CSS) of the crusher. A common method used for controlling the process flow in a crushing plant is also demonstrated. Detailed process knowledge is important in order to minimize the circulating load whilst still maximizing product quality. The model shows that the flakiness of the product can be estimated with knowledge of the following two parameters: CSS and the average particle size of the feed. Additional investigations are needed to improve the precision of the model.

- Today, the Swedish industry is budgeting billions in maintenance related costs on a yearly basis. The high costs come from productivity losses due to low availability. With condition based maintenance the maintenance intervals will be a lot more dynamic and no actions will be done unnecessarily. Sensor technology makes it possible to monitor an assets most important components. Different Artificial Intelligence techniques make it possible to analyze the measured data. With process knowledge of the monitored asset the analysis will show whether maintenance actions need to be performed or not. The condition based maintenance approach has been tried successfully on different engineering industries; now, the time has come to rail vehicles.

- Forskning om tillsyn inom miljöområdet har utförts i mycket begränsad omfattning. Naturvårdsverket har därför anlitat Centrum för forskning om offentlig sektor (CEFOS) vid Göteborgs Universitetet för att i en studie undersöka hur personal vid de operativa tillsynsmyndigheterna uppfattar inspektörsrollen. Studiens syfte har varit att kartlägga och identifiera inspektörernas upplevelser, strategier och förhållningssätt till och i inspektionsarbetet. Författaren Mats Bengtsson, CEFOS, ansvarar ensam för rapportens innehåll där han bl.a. ger förslag på fortsatt forskning inom detta område. Rapporten kan med behållning läsas av beslutsfattare och handläggare vid tillsynsmyndigheter på lokal, regional och central nivå, samt av berörda politiker.

National Adoption of International Financial Reporting Standards : The case of China

- In the past few decades, there has been a global trend of international harmonization of accounting standards, with many countries having either partially or completely replaced their national accounting standards with the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). The intended goal is to remove the barriers that hinder investors when comparing accounting information of companies from different nations, while simultaneously reducing the transaction costs for firms. However, research has shown that countries adopt IFRS unequally, ranging from resistance, partial adoption to full adoption. If the IFRS are not adopted to the same extent around the world, the central purpose of international standards can be compromised, as foreign investors cannot be confident when comparing financial statements. Uneven IFRS adoption could even be harmful to investors who believe that accounting standards have been converged worldwide—when, in fact, financial reporting differences continue to exist across national borders while being covered under the façade of the IFRS.Using China as the case country, this thesis aims to conduct an analysis on the causes of different degrees of IFRS adoption at the national level and to examine how and why such causes affect accounting standard-setters’ strategies in the era of international accounting harmonization. To build a holistic view within the complex empirical phenomenon of simultaneous convergence with and resistance to the IFRS, this thesis draws on the influence of neo-institutional theory while integrating the approach from international accounting classification. It puts forward the viewpoint that, in order to comprehend the coexistence of diversified acceptance levels of IFRS, it is necessary to understand the dynamics of the institutional variables that underlie the responses deployed by accounting standard-setters when deciding whether a set of exogenously developed accounting standards can really fit into their domestic institutional settings.The research relies on extensive archival documents. The findings show that the factors influencing China’s current convergence status with the IFRS are multifaceted, fluid, and interrelated. The Chinese accounting standard-setters’ reaction to the pressure of international accounting harmonization is a strategic response that follows China’s national ideology. Furthermore, IFRS convergence in the case of China reflects a cooperation and mutual dependence between the external institutional norm and the adopting organization, rather than a one-sided pressure. The Chinese experience also reveals that the economic incentives embedded in the technical attributes of the IFRS contributed to IFRS acceptance in China.

- The reasoning of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) has been heavily criticised for its lack of transparency. This creates significant problems given the importance of CJEU case law as a source of law. The multilingual character of EU law adds to the limited transparency of CJEU judgments. The Rules of Procedure state that the judgment is binding in the language of the case. However, the working language of the Court is French and the judgment is actually drafted in French. This article demonstrates that the situation is even more complex. It discusses the limited guidance given by the Court and the multitude of approaches adopted by the Advocates General, indicating different views of the function and purpose of EU multilingualism.
