  • 3D Kiviat Diagrams for the Interactive Analysis of Software Metric Trends
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 5th ACM Symposium on Software Visualization (SoftVis '10). - : ACM Press. - 9781450300285 ; , s. 203-204
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Previous techniques for visualizing time-series of multivariate data mostly plot the time along additional axes, are often complex, and does not support intuitive interaction. In this poster paper, we present an interactive visualization approach for the analysis of software metric trends that allows users to operate with Kiviat diagrams on 2D planes in the space and to intuitively extend this visual representation into 3D if needed.

  • Developing integration in a local industrial ecosystem : Human dimensions
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The objective of this study is to evaluate the human dimensions of improving energy and material-use efficiency of a system through increased integration and exchange between local actors. The results are based on a case study of a Swedish municipality with developed forest industry. The actors' views are discussed together with the most important factors to enable increased integration and exchange to take place. The greatest barriers found were lack of knowledge and resources, attitudes, time frames, development consent, and lack of continuity and local power for some companies. One conclusion is that the municipal authority could have a role as coordinator of local integration projects. However, tius role can be impeded by the weak integration of different divisions in the municipality's organisation and it is suggested that companies with integration as their business concept can be key actors when developing more integrated networks. It was also clear that intra-organisational issues may impede inter-organisational integration.

  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Studier i svensk språkhistoria 15. - Tartu : University of Tartu Press. - 9789949032648 - 9789949033898 ; , s. 286-299
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Present-day Swedish has a fixed noun phrase word order, but this was not the case in the language of the Vikings, Runic Swedish. In runic inscriptions, and even in early medieval manuscripts, we find "noun-first" as well as "modifier-first" word order. Runic Swedish before c.1000 was also a language with no marking of definiteness or indefiniteness, and seems to have permitted any constituent of the noun phrase to take the first position. It also seems that "noun first" was the unmarked word order and that fronting a modifier was a means of assigning more weight to it. It is argued in the article that the journey toward the modern determiner-headed noun phrases started with the emergence of the definite suffix. The word order changes form part of the chain of events eventually leading to mandatory marking of noun phrases as either definite or indefinite, also comprising the development of the indefinite article and a pre-adjectival definite article. Once the earlier postnominal demonstrative hinn was reinterpreted as an inflectional morpheme, the definite suffix (-inn), there had to be a high locus in the structure to host formal features related to (in)definiteness. As demonstratives, possessives and quantifying modifiers successively become associated with some determiner-related formal feature they will also turn up in a leftward position.

  • Consensus statement on standard of care for congenital muscular dystrophies
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Journal of child neurology. - : SAGE Publications. - 1708-8283 .- 0883-0738. ; 25:12, s. 1559-1581
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Congenital muscular dystrophies are a group of rare neuromuscular disorders with a wide spectrum of clinical phenotypes. Recent advances in understanding the molecular pathogenesis of congenital muscular dystrophy have enabled better diagnosis. However, medical care for patients with congenital muscular dystrophy remains very diverse. Advances in many areas of medical technology have not been adopted in clinical practice. The International Standard of Care Committee for Congenital Muscular Dystrophy was established to identify current care issues, review literature for evidence-based practice, and achieve consensus on care recommendations in 7 areas: diagnosis, neurology, pulmonology, orthopedics/rehabilitation, gastroenterology/ nutrition/speech/oral care, cardiology, and palliative care. To achieve consensus on the care recommendations, 2 separate online surveys were conducted to poll opinions from experts in the field and from congenital muscular dystrophy families. The final consensus was achieved in a 3-day workshop conducted in Brussels, Belgium, in November 2009. This consensus statement describes the care recommendations from this committee.

  • Return of research results (RoRR) to the healthy CHRIS cohort : designing a policy with the participants
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Journal of Community Genetics. - : Springer Nature. - 1868-310X .- 1868-6001. ; 12:4, s. 577-592
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Legal, financial and organizational challenges and the absence of coherent international guidelines and legal frameworks still discourage many genetic studies to share individual research results with their participants. Studies and institutions deciding to return genetic results will need to design their own study-specific return policy after due consideration of the ethical responsibilities. The Cooperative Health Research in South Tyrol (CHRIS) study, a healthy cohort study, did not foresee the return of individual genomic results during its baseline phase. However, as it was expected that the follow-up phase would generate an increasing amount of reliable genetic results, an update of the return of research results (RoRR) policy became necessary. To inform this revision, an empirical study using mixed methods was developed to investigate the views of CHRIS research participants (20), local general practitioners (3) and the local genetic counselling service (1). During the interviews, three different examples of potential genetic results with a very diverse potential impact on participants were presented: breast cancer, Parkinson disease and Huntington disease. The CHRIS participants also completed a short questionnaire, collecting personal information and asking for a self-evaluation of their knowledge about genetics. This study made it clear that research participants want to make autonomous decisions on the disclosure or non-disclosure of their results. While the motivations for participants’ decisions were very diverse, we were able to identify several common criteria that had a strong influence on their choices. Providing information on these factors is crucial to enable participants to make truly informed decisions.

  • Protein-dependent membrane interaction of a partially disordered protein complex with oleic acid : Implications for cancer lipidomics
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Scientific Reports. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 2045-2322. ; 6
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Bovine α-lactalbumin (BLA) forms cytotoxic complexes with oleic acid (OA) that perturbs tumor cell membranes, but molecular determinants of these membrane-interactions remain poorly understood. Here, we aim to obtain molecular insights into the interaction of BLA/BLA-OA complex with model membranes. We characterized the folding state of BLA-OA complex using tryptophan fluorescence and resolved residue-specific interactions of BLA with OA using molecular dynamics simulation. We integrated membrane-binding data using a voltage-sensitive probe and molecular dynamics (MD) to demonstrate the preferential interaction of the BLA-OA complex with negatively charged membranes. We identified amino acid residues of BLA and BLA-OA complex as determinants of these membrane interactions using MD, functionally corroborated by uptake of the corresponding α-LA peptides across tumor cell membranes. The results suggest that the α-LA component of these cytotoxic complexes confers specificity for tumor cell membranes through protein interactions that are maintained even in the lipid complex, in the presence of OA.
