  • Technologies of Decision Support and Proportionality in International Humanitarian Law
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Nordic Journal of International Law. - 0902-7351. ; 92:1, s. 93-118
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • What does proportionality reasoning mean for decision support in international humanitarian law (IHL)? We first consider contemporary ihl commentaries on proportionality as an analogue form of decision support through a paradigmatic example. Over time, proportionality in IHL has changed from being a rule-specific space for discretionary decision making to a much broader compromise-seeking within boundaries marked by law. Today, proportionality is a master norm in IHL, remaking rules by stealth and enabling the accommodation of novel master technologies as lawful. Artificial Intelligence (ai) support for military decision making is one such master technology that resonates particularly well with the inner structure of proportionality thinking: both build on cost-benefit analysis and engender the quantification of the world through data collection. We analyse how cost-benefit analysis and digitalization and algorithmic processing intersect in the U.S. legal context, to then proliferate into U.S. warfare and decision support systems, and onwards into IHL.

  • SARAFun, Smart Assembly Robot with Advanced FUNctionalities, H2020
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Impact. - : Science Impact, Ltd.. - 2398-7073. ; 2017:5, s. 67-69
  • Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • While Industrial robots are very successful in many areas of industrial manufacturing, assembly automation still suffers from complex time consuming programming and the need of dedicated hardware. ABB has developed YuMi, a collaborative inherently safe assembly robot that is expected to reduce integration costs significantly by offering a standardized hardware setup and simple fitting of the robot into existing workplaces. Internal Pilot testing at ABB has however shown that when YuMi is programmed with traditional methods the programming time even for simple assembly tasks will remain very long. The SARAFun project has been formed to enable a non-expert user to integrate a new bi-manual assembly task on a YuMi robot in less than a day. This will be accomplished by augmenting the YuMi robot with cutting edge sensory and cognitive abilities as well as reasoning abilities required to plan and execute an assembly task. The overall conceptual approach is that the robot should be capable of learning and executing assembly tasks in a human like manner. Studies will be made to understand how human assembly workers learn and perform assembly tasks. The human performance will be modelled and transferred to the YuMi robot as assembly skills. The robot will learn assembly tasks, such as insertion or folding, by observing the task being performed by a human instructor. The robot will then analyze the task and generate an assembly program, including exception handling, and design 3D printable fingers tailored for gripping the parts at hand. Aided by the human instructor, the robot will finally learn to perform the actual assembly task, relying on sensory feedback from vision, force and tactile sensing as well as physical human robot interaction. During this phase the robot will gradually improve its understanding of the assembly at hand until it is capable of performing the assembly in a fast and robust manner.

  • Formulasi Salutan Awetan-UV Berkualiti Tinggi yang Mengandungi Diluen Reaktif yang Boleh Diperbaharui untuk Perlindungan Kayu
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Malaysian Journal of Analytical Sciences. - 1394-2506. ; 26:4, s. 708-717
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Fine quality coating materials for a variety of surfaces using environmentally friendly substrates are continuously in demand. A large proportion of acrylate derivatives, which are toxic and hazardous, were found in most of the coating formulations. Many efforts have been done to replace acrylate derivatives with other materials derived from renewable resources. In this work, several formulations of wood coating containing different composition of epoxy acrylate and enzymatically synthesized epoxide from soybean oil or wax esters mixture of dioleyl adipate and 1,5-pentanediol diricinoleate were prepared. The formulations were subjected to performance evaluations including gel content, pendulum hardness, and surface test. Formulation 1 containing 85% epoxy acrylate and 15% epoxidation from soybean oil exhibited the highest gel content (79.5%), pendulum hardness (61.02%) and surface resistance to different types of liquid. Increase in surface resistance was observed using a formulation containing 85% epoxy acrylate and a mixture of 1,5-pentanediol diricinoleate and dioleyl adipate (1:1, w/w; 15%). Therefore, these reduced acrylate formulations showed good potential in the development of high-quality UV-curable wood coating.

  • ENVRI-FAIR D5.1 Requirement analysis, technology review and gap analysis of environmental RIs
  • 2020
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The overarching goal of ENVRI-FAIR is for all participating ENVRIs to improve their FAIRness and prepare the connection of their data repositories and services to the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC). With the development of FAIR implementations from the participating RIs and integrated services among the environmental subdomains, these data and services will be brought together at a higher level (for the entire cluster), providing more efficient services for researchers and policy makers. This deliverable introduces the FAIR principles, describes the approach chosen for the FAIRness assessment, gives insights into the assessment results at the project/subdomain level (and for each RI in the protected project-internal Redmine environment) and discusses the requirements for achieving FAIRer data and services. It provides a summary of the identified gaps by the subdomains and gives an overview of the development plans. It further describes the current plan for the next steps in the project for this task.

  • Should India adopt a country-specific growth reference to measure undernutrition among its children?
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: The Lancet Regional Health - Southeast Asia. - : Elsevier BV. - 2772-3682. ; 9
  • Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The 2006 World Health Organization (WHO) growth standard—based on the Multi Growth Reference Study (MGRS)—is a universal standard for healthy height and weight of young children. The share of children that deviate substantially from this growth standard (i.e., fall below −2 standard deviations) defines three important indicators: stunting (low height-for-age), wasting (low weight-for-height), and underweight (low weight-for-age). These three indicators are most often used to assess prevalence of different forms of undernutrition in a population. The prevalence of stunting, wasting, and underweight based on the MGRS are used to set international (e.g., Sustainable Development Goals) and national (e.g., POSHAN Abhiyaan in India) targets and guide substantial allocation of resources for reducing child undernutrition.

  • High-Precision Machine-Learning Based Indoor Localization with Massive MIMO System
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: ICC 2023 - IEEE International Conference on Communications. - 9781538674628 - 9781538674635 ; , s. 3690-3695
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • High-precision cellular-based localization is one of the key technologies for next-generation communication systems. In this paper, we investigate the potential of applying machine learning (ML) to a massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system to enhance localization accuracy. We analyze a new ML-based localization pipeline that has two parallel fully connected neural networks (FCNN). The first FCNN takes the instantaneous spatial covariance matrix to capture angular information, while the second FCNN takes the channel impulse responses to capture delay information. We fuse the estimated coordinates of these two FCNNs for further accuracy improvement. To test the localization algorithm, we performed an indoor measurement campaign with a massive MIMO testbed at 3.7 GHz. In the measured scenario, the proposed pipeline can achieve centimeter-level accuracy by combining delay and angular information.
