  • Reworking the archive : the essay film as an intervention into cultural memory
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Visible Evidence XX. International Conference on Documentary Film and Media, Stockholm, Sweden, August 18, 2013.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In its highly self-reflexive mode, questioning the notion of filmic images as ‘visible evidence’, the essay film is an epistemological tool for the study of visual politics. Therefore, it can offer useful insights into the mediatization of cultural memory. This paper will look at the use of the essay film by minoritized groups (Black, diasporic, feminist, queer), focussing on the remediations of archival footage. How can essay films be conceptualised as an emancipatory practice opening up discursive spaces for vernacular and alternative memories without lapsing into essentialism? Using Black British avant-garde filmmaking as an example, this paper examines filmic interventions into the visual archive. It outlines three practices of an anti-essentialist use of images defying notions of ‘truth’ and ‘authenticity’:  reworking the archive as a) ways of deconstructing hegenomic representation, b) as archaeological excavations into the archive, and c) as a mode of carving out discursive spaces for utopian visions.

  • Challenges and Opportunities Related to Remote Diagnostics : An IT-based Resource Perspective
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Information Communication Technologies and Human Development. - Hershey, PA : IGI Global. - 1935-5661 .- 1935-567X. ; 5:3, s. 80-96
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Remote diagnostics is expanding the business scope of vehicle manufacturers, ranging from products to services. In this paper, we focus on investigating the business challenges and opportunities related to the remote diagnostics of vehicles from an IT-based resource perspective. Remote diagnostics involves technology, human skills and intangibles. IT-based resources consist of physical IT infrastructure, human IT skills and IT-enabled intangibles. In this study, we find that remote diagnostics not only faces challenges in these three categories of IT-based resource, but also creates opportunities. One contribution of this paper is to provide an overview of the challenges and opportunities for business related to the technology. The paper also makes a contribution to information systems by shedding light on the discussion of digital infrastructure. It also highlights the application of IT-based resource perspective to find out the business challenges and opportunities of an emerging technology like remote diagnostics.

  • Psychometric evaluation of a Swedish version of Minneapolis-Manchester quality of life-youth form and adolescent form
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Health and Quality of Life Outcomes. - London : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1477-7525 .- 1477-7525. ; 11
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: It has become important to measure long-term effects and quality of life in survivors of childhood cancer. The Minneapolis- Manchester Quality of Life (MMQL) instrument has been proven to better capture the quality of life (QoL) perspective of health than other instruments. The instrument has age appropriate versions and is therefore favourable for longitudinal studies of QoL of children surviving from cancer. The aim of this study was to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Swedish version of MMQL-Youth Form and the Adolescent Form focusing on: 1) face and content validity 2) the internal consistency and 3) the test-retest reliability. Methods: The sample consisted of 950 pupils (11-16 years old) from 7 schools in the western Sweden who completed the questionnaire. For the test-retest evaluation 230 respondents completed the questionnaire two weeks later. Results: Face and content validity was supported and internal consistency was found to be acceptable for the total scale for both the MMQL-Youth Form (8-12 years of age) and the Adolescent Form (13-20 years of age). Test-retest reliability for the MMQL-Youth Form was moderate for 50% of the items and good for the remaining. For the MMQL-Adolescent Form the test-retest showed moderate or good agreement for 80% of the items and fair for 20%. Conclusions: The result indicated that the Swedish version of the MMQL-Youth Form and Adolescent Form was valid and reliable in a sample of healthy children in a Swedish context. It is recommended to test the instrument among diverse samples of children such as survivors of childhood cancer in order to validate its usefulness in research and clinical settings.

  • Entering a World with No Future : A phenomenological study describing the embodied experience of time when living with severe incurable disease
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Scandinavian Journal of Caring Sciences. - Chichester : Wiley-Blackwell. - 0283-9318 .- 1471-6712. ; 27:1, s. 165-174
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A phenomenological study describing the embodied experience of time when living with severe incurable disease This article presents findings from a phenomenological study exploring experience of time by patients living close to death. The empirical data consist of 26 open-ended interviews from 23 patients living with severe incurable disease receiving palliative care in Norway. Three aspects of experience of time were revealed as prominent: (i) Entering a world with no future; living close to death alters perception of and relationship to time. (ii) Listening to the rhythm of my body, not looking at the clock; embodied with severe illness, it is the body not the clock that structures and controls the activities of the day. (iii). Receiving time, taking time; being offered - not asked for - help is like receiving time that confirms humanity, in contrast to having to ask for help which is like taking others time and thereby revealing own helplessness. Experience of time close to death is discussed as an embodied experience of inner, contextual, relational dimensions in harmony and disharmony with the rhythm of nature, environment and others. Rhythms in harmony provide relief, while rhythms in disharmony confer weakness and limit time. © 2012 The Authors. Scandinavian Journal of Caring Sciences © 2012 Nordic College of Caring Science.
