  • On Human Terms – A First Evaluation of a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) in Ergonomics
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Advances in Intelligent Systems and Computing. - Cham : Springer International Publishing. - 2194-5365 .- 2194-5357. - 9783319960791 ; 821, s. 530-538
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) ‘Work and Technology on Human Terms’ (www.onhumanterms.org ) was launched in July 2017 with the aim to contribute to safer and healthier workplaces by increasing the knowledge about how products, systems, and work organizations can be designed on human terms. The purpose of this paper is to present the results of a first evaluation of the MOOC. The online course was used in four different university courses in Ergonomics in Sweden, two given at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg and two given at Linköping University. The MOOC material was used in different ways in the courses: (1) suggested voluntary, alternative material for the students’ self-studies, (2) scheduled activity for self-studies with appointed chapters, and (3) mandatory, selected course material being discussed in follow-up seminars. Data for the evaluation was collected through questionnaires and semi-structured interviews with students and teachers. The results showed that the MOOC served as a repetition of lectured material and gave increased understanding of the theories. The recorded interviews with practitioners and researchers in the MOOC highlighted the importance of the subject in real working life. The knowledge tests were appreciated as rehearsal of understanding. However, the MOOC in parallel with the other course material was also considered to be too much work by some students. A recommendation is to carefully consider how to use and integrate the MOOC as a meaningful, individual, theoretical learning activity for the students. Thereby the lectures in classroom could focus more on discussions and problem-solving regarding the topics and less on basic theory.

  • Structured time observation of human modelling tool users' activites.
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: In: Proceedings of 16th Triennial World Congress on Ergonomics, International Ergonomics Association, 2006, July 10-14, Maastricht, The Netherlands..
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Most statements regarding human modeling tools efficiency are based on perceived time. No structured timeobservation of task activities performed by a simulation engineers working with the tools are previous performed. The aim of the study is to identify digital human modelling tool users’ activates and measure the time distributionof the activities. Furthermore, measured time distribution is compared with users perceived time distribution.Five simulation engineers at Volvo were observed for five days each. The simulation engineers’ activities can becategorised in twelve groups. The direct value added work and the indirect value added work important for a newintroduced tool were of similar size as direct value added work for a vehicle disassembly worker. Waiting time, theresimulation is out of control e.g. waiting for information from colleague and computer processor, was perceived muchlonger compared to measured time. The human modelling tool seems to have matured and most of the activities identified seems to be necessary to perform human modelling simulations of high quality; however the time distribution could to some extend be questioned. There are a lot of activities associated with communication, i.e. different kinds of contacts and meetings. Therefore it appears to be a potential to increase efficiency with respect to communication.

  • Reliable engineering assessments of corroded concrete structures
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Nordic Concrete Research : Proceedings of the XXIII Nordic Concrete Research Symposium, Aalborg, Denmark, 21-23 August, 2017 - Proceedings of the XXIII Nordic Concrete Research Symposium, Aalborg, Denmark, 21-23 August, 2017. ; , s. 245-248
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Corrosion of steel reinforcement is a large and increasing problem for reinforced concrete structures. Simple and reliable assessment methods are required to use the full capacity of existing infrastructure. In this paper, a reliable engineering assessment method is outlined. A model for anchorage has been developed and verified against a large database of bond tests. Also the influence of corrosion on the bending and shear capacity is to be included, and a probabilistic model will be established. The outcome of this work will enable practising engineers to perform reliable assessments of concrete structures with corroded reinforcement.

  • Beta-delayed multiparticle emission studies at ISOL-type facilities
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Physics A. - : Elsevier BV. - 0375-9474. ; 746, s. 243-243
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report here on the recent beta-decay studies made at ISOL-type Facilities to determine the multiparticle breakup mechanism of excited states in light nuclei by studying them in full kinematics. In particular the results obtained for the A = 9 isobars and the breakup of the 12.7 MeV state in C-12 of unnatural parity are discussed. The breakup of the latter has been debated since more than a decade. Mirror beta transitions in the A = 9 chain are compared and a large asymmetry factor is deduced for the transitions to high excitation energy in Be-9 (11.8 MeV) and B-9 (12.2 MeV) fed in the beta-decay of Li-9 and C-9 respectively. It is shown that the asymmetry is not due to experimental problems or differences in the mechanisms of breakup or in the spin of the states. As no asymmetry is found in the gs to gs transition it must be due to the particular structure of these excited states. The controversy on the breakup mechanism of the 12.7 MeV state is resolved.

  • PAPR : Publicly Auditable Privacy Revocation for Anonymous Credentials
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Topics in Cryptology – CT-RSA 2023 - Cryptographers’ Track at the RSA Conference 2023, Proceedings. - 1611-3349 .- 0302-9743. - 9783031308710 ; 13871 LNCS, s. 163-190
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We study the notion of anonymous credentials with Publicly Auditable Privacy Revocation (PAPR). PAPR credentials simultaneously provide conditional user privacy and auditable privacy revocation. The first property implies that users keep their identity private when authenticating unless and until an appointed authority requests to revoke this privacy, retroactively. The second property enforces that auditors can verify whether or not this authority has revoked privacy from an issued credential (i.e. learned the identity of the user who owns that credential), holding the authority accountable. In other words, the second property enriches conditionally anonymous credential systems with transparency by design, effectively discouraging such systems from being used for mass surveillance. In this work, we introduce the notion of a PAPR anonymous credential scheme, formalize it as an ideal functionality, and present constructions that are provably secure under standard assumptions in the Universal Composability framework. The core tool in our PAPR construction is a mechanism for randomly selecting an anonymous committee which users secret share their identity information towards, while hiding the identities of the committee members from the authority. As a consequence, in order to initiate the revocation process for a given credential, the authority is forced to post a request on a public bulletin board used as a broadcast channel to contact the anonymous committee that holds the keys needed to decrypt the identity connected to the credential. This mechanism makes the user de-anonymization publicly auditable.

  • Combining Depth Fusion and Photometric Stereo for Fine-Detailed 3D Models
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Image Analysis - 21st Scandinavian Conference, SCIA 2019, Proceedings. - Cham : Springer International Publishing. - 1611-3349 .- 0302-9743. - 9783030202040 ; 11482 LNCS, s. 261-274
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In recent years, great progress has been made on the problem of 3D scene reconstruction using depth sensors. On a large scale, these reconstructions look impressive, but often many fine details are lacking due to limitations in the sensor resolution. In this paper we combine two well-known principles for recovery of 3D models, namely fusion of depth images with photometric stereo to enhance the details of the reconstructions. We derive a simple and transparent objective functional that takes both the observed intensity images and depth information into account. The experimental results show that many details are captured that are not present in the input depth images. Moreover, we provide a quantitative evaluation that confirms the improvement of the resulting 3D reconstruction using a 3D printed model.

  • Minimizing the maximal rank
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the IEEE Computer Society Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition. - 1063-6919. - 9781467388511 ; 2016-January, s. 5887-5895
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In computer vision, many problems can be formulated as finding a low rank approximation of a given matrix. Ideally, if all elements of the measurement matrix are available, this is easily solved in the L2-norm using factorization. However, in practice this is rarely the case. Lately, this problem has been addressed using different approaches, one is to replace the rank term by the convex nuclear norm, another is to derive the convex envelope of the rank term plus a data term. In the latter case, matrices are divided into sub-matrices and the envelope is computed for each subblock individually. In this paper a new convex envelope is derived which takes all sub-matrices into account simultaneously. This leads to a simpler formulation, using only one parameter to control the trade-of between rank and data fit, for applications where one seeks low rank approximations of multiple matrices with the same rank. We show in this paper how our general framework can be used for manifold denoising of several images at once, as well as just denoising one image. Experimental comparisons show that our method achieves results similar to state-of-the-art approaches while being applicable for other problems such as linear shape model estimation.

  • Robust Camera Tracking by Combining Color and Depth Measurements
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: International Conference on Pattern Recognition. - 1051-4651.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • One of the major research areas in computer vision is scene reconstruction from image streams. The advent of RGB-D cameras, such as the Microsoft Kinect, has lead to new possibilities for performing accurate and dense 3D reconstruction. There are already well-working algorithms to acquire 3D models from depth sensors, both for large and small scale scenes. However, these methods often break down when the scene geometry is not so informative, for example, in the case of planar surfaces. Similarly, standard image-based methods fail for texture-less scenes. We combine both color and depth measurements from an RGB-D sensor to simultaneously reconstruct both the camera motion and the scene geometry in a robust manner. Experiments on real data show that we can accurately reconstruct large-scale 3D scenes despite many planar surfaces.

  • Robust online 3D reconstruction combining a depth sensor and sparse feature points
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Proceedings - International Conference on Pattern Recognition. - 1051-4651. - 9781509048472 ; , s. 3709-3714
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Online 3D reconstruction has been an active research area for a long time. Since the release of the Microsoft Kinect Camera and publication of KinectFusion [11] attention has been drawn how to acquire dense models in real-time. In this paper we present a method to make online 3D reconstruction which increases robustness for scenes with little structure information and little texture information. It is shown empirically that our proposed method also increases robustness when the distance between the camera positions becomes larger than what is commonly assumed. Quantitative and qualitative results suggest that this approach can handle situations where other well-known methods fail. This is important in, for example, robotics applications like when the camera position and the 3D model must be created online in real-time.

  • Commissioning of the CALIFA Barrel Calorimeter of the R 3 B Experiment at FAIR
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Journal of Physics: Conference Series. - : IOP Publishing. - 1742-6588 .- 1742-6596. ; 1667:1
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • CALIFA is the high efficiency and energy resolution calorimeter for the R3B experiment at FAIR, intended for detecting high energy charged particles and γ-rays in inverse kinematics direct reactions. It surrounds the reaction target in a segmented configuration of Barrel and Forward End-Cap pieces. The CALIFA Barrel consists of 1952 detection units made of CsI(Tl) long-shaped scintillator crystals, and it is being commissioned during the Phase0 experiments at FAIR. The first setup for the CALIFA Barrel commissioning is presented here. Results of detector performance with γ-rays are obtained, and show that the system fulfills the design requirements.
