  • Resolving Impurities in Atomic Layer Deposited Aluminum Nitride through Low Cost, High Efficiency Precursor Design
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Inorganic Chemistry. - : AMER CHEMICAL SOC. - 0020-1669 .- 1520-510X. ; 60:15, s. 11025-11031
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A heteroleptic amidoalane precursor is presented as a more suitably designed candidate to replace trimethylaluminum (TMA) for atomic layer deposition of aluminum nitride (AlN). The lack of C-Al bonds and the strongly reducing hydride ligands in [AlH2(NMe2)](3) (1) were specifically chosen to limit impurities in target aluminum nitride (AlN) films. Compound 1 is made in a high yield, scalable synthesis involving lithium aluminum hydride and dimethylammonium chloride. It has a vapor pressure of 1 Torr at 40 degrees C and evaporates with negligible residual mass in thermogravimetric experiments. Ammonia (NH3) plasma and 1 in an atomic layer deposition (ALD) process produced crystalline AlN films above 200 degrees C with an Al:N ratio of 1.04. Carbon and oxygen impurities in resultant AlN films were reduced to <1% and <2%, respectively. By using a precursor with a rational and advantageous design, we can improve the material quality of AlN films compared to those deposited using the industrial standard trimethylaluminum and could reduce material cost by up to 2 orders of magnitude.

  • Role of oxygen pressure in laser cutting mild steels
  • 1996
  • Ingår i: Journal of laser applications. - : Laser Institute of America. - 1042-346X .- 1938-1387. ; 8:4, s. 191-196
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper presents the results of an experimental program investigating the effects of using high pressure oxygen as assist gas in combination with a pulsed laser while cutting medium thick mild steel plates. It was discovered that if the pulse conditions are optimized, the maximum cutting speed for a set average laser power could be increased by up to 10% compared to low oxygen pressure continuous wave (CW) laser cutting. The assist gas was found to have two optimum pressure ranges between which the material suffered from burning on the cut edge. The paper presents a phenomenological model to explain the changes in cut front dynamics as the oxygen pressure is increased and the role of pulsing in suppressing edge burning

  • Sex-and age-related variations in myocardial tissue composition of the healthy heart : a native T1 mapping cohort study
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: European Heart Journal Cardiovascular Imaging. - 2047-2404. ; 25:8, s. 1109-1117
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Aims: Cardiovascular diseases manifest differently in males and females, potentially influenced by inherent sex- and age-related differences in myocardial tissue composition. Such inherent differences are not well-established in the literature. With this study using cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) native T1 mapping, we aim to determine the effect of sex and age on myocardial tissue composition in healthy individuals. Methods and results: CMR native T1 mapping was performed in 276 healthy individuals (55% male, age 8 - -84 years) on a 1.5 Tesla scanner using a MOLLI 5(3)3 acquisition scheme. Additionally, 30 healthy participants (47% male, age 24-68 years) underwent a 1-year follow-up CMR to assess the longitudinal changes of native T1. Mean native T1 values were 1000 ± 22 ms in males and 1022 ± 23 ms in females [mean difference (MD) = 22 ms, 95% confidence interval (CI) (17, 27)]. Female sex was associated with higher native T1 in multivariable linear regression adjusting for age, heart rate, left ventricular mass index, and blood T1 [β=10 ms, 95% CI (3.4, 15.8)]. There was no significant interaction between sex and age (P = 0.27). Further, age was not associated with native T1 [β=0.1 ms, 95% CI (-0.02, 0.2)], and native T1 did not change during a 1-year period [MD -4 ms, 95% CI (-11, 3)]. Conclusion: Female sex was associated with higher native T1; however, there was no association between age and native T1. Additionally, there was no evidence of an interaction between sex and age. Our findings indicate intrinsic sex-based disparities in myocardial tissue composition.

  • Turn-Taking Strategy and Style-Shift in Japanese Women
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 5 th Biennial International Gender and Language Association Conference IGALA 5, held at Victoria University of Wellington, July 2008. - Wellington, New Zealand : Victoria University of Wellington. ; , s. 225-239
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This article examines gender differences and style-shifting of women in turn-taking (TT) strategies during Japanese conversations; such strategies appear when there is a new shift in conversation. Specifically, the article explores the gender difference in TT strategies and whether a woman’s TT strategy changes in accordance with the interlocutor’s gender. This article suggests that women have varying conversational styles that are rather similar to those of men. The following tendencies were observed in the TT strategies of men and women. First, in the TT strategies adopted toward male interlocutors, females exhibited supportive tendencies, such as involving men in the conversation or actively responding to them. Second, the TT strategies adopted by males toward female interlocutors revealed negative elements such as the use of blunt responsive markers or first person pronouns. Third, in the TT strategies adopted toward female interlocutors, females displayed relatively negative tendencies, using blunt or simple TT strategies in comparison to those seen in the conversations between males and females. The article then discusses the implications of these findings as women do not innately possess supportive conversational styles and simply converse in accordance with their gender role. In particular, the discussion focuses on the possibility that the socialization of women also compels them to follow linguistic socialization, which reflects a woman’s customary role to engage in assistant work.

  • The sprouting capacity of 8-21-year-old poplars and some practical implications
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Forests. - : MDPI AG. - 1999-4907. ; 3, s. 528-545
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We investigated the sprouting capacity of poplar stumps in ten 8–21-year old stands growing on former farmland in Sweden situated between 55°N and 60°N. Seven of the stands were planted with the clone OP-42 (Populus maximowiczii Henry × Populus trichocarpa Torr. and Gray), one with black cottonwood (Populus trichocarpa Torr. And Gray) and two with unidentified clones. The poplars’ mean age was 17 years (range 8–21); six of the stands were growing on clay soils, two on tills and two on loam. The studied sprouts were 1–7 years old. Stump sprouting was observed in all studied stands. The number of sprouts per living stump decreased as sprout age increased. The mean dry mass of all sprouts stump−1 was 16.1 ± 14.0 (range 3.3–37.2) kg. A biomass equation was constructed for estimating sprout biomass from the sprouts’ diameter at 10 cm above the ground (D10). The mean total sprout weight per hectare for sprouts amounted to 16.9 ± 14.6 (range 1.2–41.3) tons ha−1 when calculated for the actual living stumps in the studied areas.

  • Theoretical analysis of a correlation attack based on convolutional codes
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: [Host publication title missing]. - 0780358570 ; , s. 212-212
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The authors consider a binary synchronous stream cipher where a correlation has been identified between the keystream sequence and the output from one of the linear feedback shift registers (LFSR). They present a theoretical analysis of their recent algorithm for fast correlation attacks, based on the use of convolutional codes (see Advances in Cryptology - EUROCRYPT'99, Lecture Notes in Computer Science, vol.1592, p.347-62, Springer-Verlag, 1999).
