  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the Eleventh Congress of the European Society for Research in Mathematics Education (CERME11, February 6 – 10, 2019). - Utrecht : Freudenthal Group & Freudenthal Institute, Utrecht University, Netherlands and ERME. - 9789073346758
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The present paper considers an important cultural treasure in the early Swedish history of mathematics education. After the reformation in the 16th century it became possible to study mathematics in Sweden. The first printed textbook in Swedish on arithmetic appeared in 1614, but already in 1601, the oldest known manuscript in Swedish on arithmetic was written by Hans Larsson Rizanesander. In this paper we investigate Rizanesander’s manuscript in its historical context.

  • GLOBAL SOLUTIONS TO STOCHASTIC VOLTERRA EQUATIONS DRIVEN BY LEVY NOISE
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Fractional Calculus and Applied Analysis. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1311-0454 .- 1314-2224. ; 21:5, s. 1170-1202
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper we investigate the existence and uniqueness of semilinear stochastic Volterra equations driven by multiplicative Levy noise of pure jump type. In particular, we consider the equation {du(t) = (A integral(t)(0) b(t - s)u(s) ds) dt vertical bar F(t, u(t)) dt + integral(Z) G(t, u(t), z) (eta) over tilde (dz, dt) + integral(ZL) G(L)(t, u(t), z)eta(L)(dz, dt), t is an element of (0, T], where Z and Z(L) are Banach spaces, (eta) over tilde is a time-homogeneous compensated Poisson random measure on Z with intensity measure. (capturing the small jumps), and eta(L) is a time-homogeneous Poisson random measure on ZL independent to (eta) over tilde. with finite intensity measure nu(L) (capturing the large jumps). Here, A is a selfadjoint operator on a Hilbert space H, b is a scalar memory function and F, G and G(L) are nonlinear mappings. We provide conditions on b, F G and GL under which a unique global solution exists. We also present an example from the theory of linear viscoelasticity where our result is applicable. The specific kernel b(t) = c(rho)t(rho-2), 1 < rho < 2, corresponds to a fractional-in-time stochastic equation and the nonlinear maps F and G can include fractional powers of A.

  • Food systems sustainability: An examination of different viewpoints on food system change
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Sustainability. - : MDPI AG. - 2071-1050. ; 11:12
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Global food insecurity levels remain stubbornly high. One of the surest ways to grasp the scale and consequence of global inequality is through a food systems lens. In a predominantly urban world, urban food systems present a useful lens to engage a wide variety of urban (and global) challenges—so called ‘wicked problems.’ This paper describes a collaborative research project between four urban food system research units, two European and two African. The project purpose was to seek out solutions to what lay between, across and within the different approaches applied in the understanding of each city’s food system challenges. Contextual differences and immediate (perceived) needs resulted in very different views on the nature of the challenge and the solutions required. Value positions of individuals and their disciplinary “enclaves” presented further boundaries. The paper argues that finding consensus provides false solutions. Rather the identification of novel approaches to such wicked problems is contingent of these differences being brought to the fore, being part of the conversation, as devices through which common positions can be discovered, where spaces are created for the realisation of new perspectives, but also, where difference is celebrated as opposed to censored.

  • Worldwide impacts of atmospheric vapor pressure deficit on the interannual variability of terrestrial carbon sinks
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: National Science Review. - : Oxford University Press (OUP). - 2095-5138 .- 2053-714X. ; 9:4
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Interannual variability of the terrestrial ecosystem carbon sink is substantially regulated by various environmental variables and highly dominates the interannual variation of atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) concentrations. Thus, it is necessary to determine dominating factors affecting the interannual variability of the carbon sink to improve our capability of predicting future terrestrial carbon sinks. Using global datasets derived from machine-learning methods and process-based ecosystem models, this study reveals that the interannual variability of the atmospheric vapor pressure deficit (VPD) was significantly negatively correlated with net ecosystem production (NEP) and substantially impacted the interannual variability of the atmospheric CO2 growth rate (CGR). Further analyses found widespread constraints of VPD interannual variability on terrestrial gross primary production (GPP), causing VPD to impact NEP and CGR. Partial correlation analysis confirms the persistent and widespread impacts of VPD on terrestrial carbon sinks compared to other environmental variables. Current Earth system models underestimate the interannual variability in VPD and its impacts on GPP and NEP. Our results highlight the importance of VPD for terrestrial carbon sinks in assessing ecosystems' responses to future climate conditions.

  • Glomerulus-specific mRNA transcripts and proteins identified through kidney expressed sequence tag database analysis
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Kidney International. - 1523-1755 .- 0085-2538. ; 71:9, s. 889-900
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The kidney glomerulus plays a crucial role in blood filtration but the molecular composition and physiology of the glomerulus is not well understood. We previously constructed and large-scale sequenced four mouse glomerular expressed sequence tag (EST) libraries from newborn and adult mouse glomeruli. Here, we compared glomerular EST profiles with whole kidney EST profiles, thereby identifying 497 transcripts corresponding to UniGene clusters that were glomerulus-enriched, that is expressed more abundantly in glomeruli than in whole kidney. These include several known protein-coding glomerulus-specific transcripts critical for glomerulus development and function, but also a large number of gene transcripts, which have not previously been shown to be expressed in the glomerulus, or implicated in glomerular functions. We used in situ hybridization to demonstrate glomerulus-specific RNA expression for six novel glomerular genes and the public Human Protein Atlas to verify glomerular protein expression for another two. The higher mRNA abundance for the eight genes in glomeruli compared with whole kidney was also verified by Taqman quantitative polymerase chain reaction. We surmise that the further characterization of these genes and proteins will increase our understanding of glomerular development and physiology.
