  • Vem annars ska göra det vi gör - om socialt arbete på familjecentral
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Socialmedicinsk Tidskrift. - 0037-833X. ; 88:2, s. 144-154
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract

  • Risk of sloshing in the primary system of a lead cooled fast reactor
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: PSAM 2014 - Probabilistic Safety Assessment and Management.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Pool-type designs of Lead-cooled Fast Reactor (LFR) aim for commercial viability by simplified engineering solutions and passive safety systems. However, such designs carry the risks related to heavy coolant sloshing in case of seismic event. Sloshing can cause (i) structural damage due to fluid-structure interaction (FSI) and (ii) core damage due to void induced reactivity insertion or due to local heat transfer deterioration. The main goal of this study is to identify the domain of seismic excitation characteristics at the reactor vessel level that can lead to exceedance of the safety limits for structural integrity and core damage. Reference pool-type LFR design used in this study is the European Lead-cooled SYstem (ELSY). Liquid lead sloshing is analyzed with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) method. Outcome of the analysis is divided in two parts. First, different modes of sloshing depending on seismic excitation are identified. These modes are characterized by wave shapes, loads on structures and entrapped void. In the second part we capitalize on the framework of Integrated Deterministic-Probabilistic Safety Assessment (IDPSA) to quantify the risk. Specifically, statistical parameters pertaining to mechanical loads and void transport are quantified and combined with the deterministically obtained data about consequences.

  • Resource Allocation for Cognitive Satellite Communications With Incumbent Terrestrial Networks
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: IEEE Transactions on Cognitive Communications and Networking. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). - 2332-7731. ; 1:3, s. 305-317
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The lack of available unlicensed spectrum together with the increasing spectrum demand by multimedia applications has resulted in a spectrum scarcity problem, which affects satellite communications (SatCom) as well as terrestrial systems. The goal of this paper is to propose resource allocation (RA) techniques, i.e., carrier, power, and bandwidth allocation, for a cognitive spectrum utilization scenario where the satellite system aims at exploiting the spectrum allocated to terrestrial networks as the incumbent users without imposing harmful interference to them. In particular, we focus on the microwave frequency bands 17.7-19.7 GHz for the cognitive satellite downlink and 27.5-29.5 GHz for the cognitive satellite uplink, although the proposed techniques can be easily extended to other bands. In the first case, assuming that the satellite terminals are equipped with multiple low block noise converters (LNB), we propose a joint beamforming and carrier allocation scheme to enable cognitive space-to-Earth communications in the shared spectrum where fixed service (FS) microwave links have priority of operation. In the second case, however, the cognitive satellite uplink should not cause harmful interference to the incumbent FS system. For the latter, we propose a joint power and carrier allocation (JPCA) strategy followed by a bandwidth allocation scheme, which guarantees protection of the terrestrial FS system while maximizing the satellite total throughput. The proposed cognitive satellite exploitation techniques are validated with numerical simulations considering realistic system parameters. It is shown that the proposed cognitive exploitation framework represents a promising approach for enhancing the throughput of conventional satellite systems.

  • An Interactive, physics-based unmanned ground vehicle simulator leveraging open source gaming technology : Progress in the development and application of the virtual autonomous navigation environment (VANE) desktop
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Unmanned Systems Technology XI. - Bellingham, WA : SPIE - International Society for Optical Engineering. - 9780819475985 ; , s. Article number 73321C-
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • It is widely recognized that simulation is pivotal to vehicle development, whether manned or unmanned. There are few dedicated choices, however, for those wishing to perform realistic, end-to-end simulations of unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs). The Virtual Autonomous Navigation Environment (VANE), under development by US Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), provides such capabilities but utilizes a High Performance Computing (HPC) Computational Testbed (CTB) and is not intended for on-line, real-time performance. A product of the VANE HPC research is a real-time desktop simulation application under development by the authors that provides a portal into the HPC environment as well as interaction with wider-scope semi-automated force simulations (e.g. OneSAF). This VANE desktop application, dubbed the Autonomous Navigation Virtual Environment Laboratory (ANVEL), enables analysis and testing of autonomous vehicle dynamics and terrain/obstacle interaction in real-time with the capability to interact within the HPC constructive geo-environmental CTB for high fidelity sensor evaluations. ANVEL leverages rigorous physics-based vehicle and vehicle-terrain interaction models in conjunction with high-quality, multimedia visualization techniques to form an intuitive, accurate engineering tool. The system provides an adaptable and customizable simulation platform that allows developers a controlled, repeatable testbed for advanced simulations. ANVEL leverages several key technologies not common to traditional engineering simulators, including techniques from the commercial video-game industry. These enable ANVEL to run on inexpensive commercial, off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware. In this paper, the authors d escribe key aspects of ANVEL and its development, as well as several initial applications of the system. © 2009 SPIE.

  • From the Swedish dual career model to a national digital system of dual career support services
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Proceedings. - Bern : University of Bern. - 9783033051294 ; , s. 241-241
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The sport and educational systems in Sweden have a long history (since the 1970s) of cooperating on a high school level. Recently steps have been taken by the Swedish Sport Confederation to initiate cooperation in higher education (i.e., university level). Swedish research on athletes’ dual careers has mainly focused on the high school level (e.g., Stambulova, Engström, Franck, Linnér, & Lindahl, 2014; Uebel, 2006), with Fryklund (2012) as the only one who targeted the university level. Stambulova et al. (2014) presented the Swedish dual career model to set up an agenda for future dual career research in Sweden. The model aligns the stages in the Swedish educational system with related age markers and stages in athletic as well as vocational development illustrating possible dual career pathways and related transitions. Outlined by the Swedish dual career model a new project has been initiated.  Demands and challenges as well as the relevant needs in psychological support of Swedish university student-athletes are investigated through mixed-method qualitative and quantitative explorations. Based upon findings and in collaboration with researchers in health innovation and embedded intelligent systems a national digital system of dual career support services is going to be developed and tested. The digital service can be explained as an online national career assistance program including dual career education, networking and training from a preventive-supportive perspective. That is, helping university student-athletes to develop knowledge, competencies and skills to become more competent and (with time) autonomous in managing their own careers. In a broader sense, the system is seen as facilitating implementations of the Swedish dual career philosophies of “winning in the short-run”(i.e., obtaining an optimal dual career balance) and “winning in the long-run”, that is, proactively preparing student-athletes for athletic career termination (Stambulova et al., 2014). © 2015 University of Bern, Institut of Sport Science

  • Wall shear stress and relative residence time as potential risk factors for abdominal aortic aneurysms in males : a 4D flow cardiovascular magnetic resonance case-control study
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Journal of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance. - : BMC. - 1097-6647 .- 1532-429X. ; 24:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background Abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) can lead to catastrophic events such as dissection or rupture, and are an expression of general aortic disease. Low wall shear stress (WSS), high oscillatory shear index (OSI), and high relative residence time (RRT) have been correlated against increased uptake of inflammatory markers in the vessel wall and may improve risk stratification of AAA. We sought to obtain a comprehensive view of WSS, OSI, and RRT in the whole aorta for patients with AAA and age-matched elderly controls and young normal controls. Methods 4D Flow cardiovascular magnetic resonance images of the whole aorta were acquired in 18 AAA patients (70.8 +/- 3.4 years), 22 age-matched controls (71.4 +/- 3.4 years), and 23 young subjects (23.3 +/- 3.1 years), all males. Three-dimensional segmentations of the whole aorta were created for all timeframes using a semi-automatic approach. The aorta was divided into five segments: ascending aorta, arch, descending aorta, suprarenal and infrarenal abdominal aorta. For each segment, average values of peak WSS, OSI, and RRT were computed. Students t-tests were used to compare values between the three cohorts (AAA patients vs elderly controls, and elderly controls vs young controls) where the data were normally distributed, and the non-parametric Wilcoxon rank sum tests were used otherwise. Results AAA patients had lower peak WSS in the descending aorta as well as in the abdominal aorta compared to elderly controls (p <= 0.001), similar OSI, but higher RRT in the descending and abdominal aorta (p <= 0.001). Elderly controls had lower peak WSS compared to young controls throughout the aorta (p < 0.001), higher OSI in all segments except for the infrarenal aorta (p < 0.001), and higher RRT throughout the aorta, except the infrarenal aorta (p < 0.001). Conclusions This study provides novel insights into WSS, OSI, and RRT in patients with AAA in relation to normal ageing, highlighting how AAA patients have markedly abnormal hemodynamic stresses not only in the infrarenal, but in the entire aorta. Moreover, we identified RRT as a marker for abnormal AAA hemodynamics. Further investigations are needed to explore if RRT or other measures of hemodynamics stresses best predict AAA growth and/or rupture.

  • An experiment on an automated literature survey of data-driven speech enhancement methods
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Acta Acustica. - : EDP Sciences. - 2681-4617. ; 8:2, s. 1-8
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The increasing number of scientific publications in acoustics, in general, presents difficulties in conducting traditional literature surveys. This work explores the use of a generative pre-trained transformer (GPT) model to automate a literature survey of 117 articles on data-driven speech enhancement methods. The main objective is to evaluate the capabilities and limitations of the model in providing accurate responses to specific queries about the papers selected from a reference human-based survey. While we see great potential to automate literature surveys in acoustics, improvements are needed to address technical questions more clearly and accurately.

  • Exploring dimensions of change : the case of MOOC conceptions
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: International journal for academic development. - 1360-144X .- 1470-1324. ; 22:3, s. 257-269
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper addresses a relatively new phenomenon in higher education, Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), and explores conceptions around this new and emerging development from the perspective of a number of stakeholders in the university. A phenomenographic approach is adopted. The study explores how different stakeholders at a university perceive the MOOC phenomenon, and reflects on how the many conceptions stakeholders adhere to are made meaningful for academic developers in their role as 'partners in arms'. The conceptions run across a continuum from the local and narrow to the global and broad. The study identifies challenges to change agency in a higher education institution.
