  • Diagnostik och behandling av akuta skafoideumfrakturer
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Läkartidningen. - 0023-7205. ; 116
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This article suggests algorithms for diagnosis and treatment of scaphoid fractures. A clinical suspected scaphoid fracture without signs of fracture on conventional radiographs should have a supplementary MRI done within 5-7 days. Displaced fractures and all proximal fractures should be classified by CT. Fracture union should be evaluated by CT. 90 procent of non- or minimally displaced waist fractures are healed after 6 weeks of conservative treatment. Non- or minimally displaced fractures with signs of instability can be treated conservatively, but require prolonged immobilisation. Fractures with a displacement ≥1,5 mm as well as the majority of proximal scaphoid fractures should be treated surgically with internal fixation.

  • Some Future Perspectives in Ambient Pressure X-ray Spectroscopies : Atmospheric Pressure, Spatially Resolved and Multi-modal Experiments
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Ambient Pressure Spectroscopy in Complex Chemical Environments. - Washington, DC : American Chemical Society. - 0097-6156 .- 1947-5918. - 9780841298125 - 9780841298118 ; 1396, s. 333-358
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This chapter introduces a selection of novel and emerging concepts in ambient pressure X-ray spectroscopies. Technical considerations and first photoemission experiments performed in and above 1 bar pressure are described. Then, X-ray spectroscopy experiments that provide high lateral (microscopy) and depth (X-ray standing-waves) resolution in ambient environments are discussed. The final part of the chapter introduces recent developments in multimodal instrumentation, such as the combination of ambient pressure X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy with Infrared spectroscopy and X-ray scattering.

  • Alleviation of acute dental pain from localised apical periodontitis : A prospective randomised study comparing two emergency treatment procedures
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Journal of Oral Rehabilitation. - : John Wiley & Sons. - 1365-2842 .- 0305-182X. ; 46:2, s. 120-126
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective: To compare the outcomes of two emergency treatment procedures to alleviate pain from localised symptomatic apical periodontitis: complete chemo‐mechanical disinfection (CMD) of the root canal system, or removal of necrotic tissue from the pulp chamber (RNT), that is without instrumentation of the root canals. Methods: Fifty‐seven consecutive patients from the emergency clinic at Malmö University met the inclusion criteria: spontaneous pain and/or pain on percussion and palpation, non‐bleeding pulp in the canal orifice, pain ≥4 on a Numeric Rating Scale and ≥18 years of age. The diagnosis was symptomatic apical periodontitis, in the absence of swelling and/or fever. Pre‐operative pain levels and intake of analgesics were registered. The patients were randomised to one of the two treatment groups. Three to five days post‐operatively, the patients were contacted by telephone and asked to grade their current pain level and report any post‐operative intake of analgesics and antibiotics. Results: Of the patients treated with CMD of the root canal system, 26/30 (87%) reported satisfactory pain relief, compared with 22/27 (81%) of those treated by RNT. There was no mean difference in pain relief between the two groups (P = 0.879). Post‐operatively, 37% in each group reported using analgesics and one in each group reported using antibiotics. Conclusion: Three to five days after treatment, a majority (>80%) in both groups reported adequate pain relief, in some cases in combination with analgesics. Removal of necrotic and infected tissue from the pulp chamber might therefore be a cost‐effective emergency treatment alternative to complete chemo‐mechanical disinfection.

  • Portable rescue device and a method for locating such a device
  • 2007
  • Patent (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • A portable rescue device and a method for locating, by means of a first rescue device set in a search mode, a second rescue device set in a distress mode. In the method, a distress signal carrying a device identification is received from said second rescue device. A first bearing and a second bearing to the second rescue device are obtained. The first and second bearings are taken from a first and a second position, respectively. A distance between these positions is determined. A current distance and a current bearing to the second rescue device are determined on basis of the first and second bearings and the distance. The current bearing and the current distance are communicated to a user of the first rescue device. The portable rescue device is used for performing the method and for that purpose it includes a first communication unit for distress signal transmission and reception; a compass; a processor; a user interface; and a mode switch for switching between a search mode and a distress signal mode. The first communication device has an antenna structure that provides directional capability.

  • Time-energy relation of the n_TOF neutron beam : energy standards revisited
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A. - : Elsevier BV. - 0168-9002 .- 1872-9576. ; 532:3, s. 622-630
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The accurate determination of neutron cross-sections as a function of the neutron energy at a time-of-flight facility requires a precise knowledge of the time-energy relation for the neutron beam. For the n-TOF neutron beam at CERN, produced by spallation of high-energy protons on a Pb target, the time-energy relation is connected to the production mechanism and to the subsequent moderation process. A calibration of the neutron energy scale is proposed based on detailed Monte Carlo simulations of the facility. This time-energy relation has been experimentally validated by means of dedicated measurements of standard energy resonances, from 1 eV to approximately 1 MeV. On the basis of the present measurements, it is proposed to correct the energy of the 1.3 eV resonance of 193 Ir, which is commonly considered as an energy standard.
