Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
- The temperature dependence of charge carrier mobility in conjugated polymers and their blends with fullerenes is investigated with different electrical methods, through field effect transistor (FET), space charge limited current (SCLC) and charge extraction (CELIV) measurements. Simple models, such as the Gaussian disorder model (GDM), are shown to accurately predict the temperature behavior, and a good correlation between the different measurement methods is obtained. Inconsistent charge carrier concentrations in the modeling are explained through intrinsic non-equilibrium effects, and are responsible for the limited applicability of existing numerical models. A severe extrinsic influence from water in FETs with a hydrophilic insulator interface is also demonstrated. The presence of water leads to a significant overestimate of the disorder in the materials from measurements close to room temperature and erratic behavior in the 150-350 K range. To circumvent this problem it is shown to be necessary to measure under ultra high vacuum (UHV) conditions. © 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Full scale fire-test of an electric hybrid bus
- 2016
-
Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
- In November 2014 a full scale fire test was conducted on an electric-diesel hybrid bus at the rescue-service training facility Guttasjön outside of Borås. The fire was started in the engine compartment and allowed to spread and grow until the entire bus was consumed in the fire. Temperature measurements were conducted in the engine compartment, passenger compartment, air-channels within the passenger compartment and on the battery. In addition were gas analysis, useful for evaluation of evacuation, performed within the passenger compartment and extra detectors installed in the engine compartment. The test was video-recorded from several angles. The purpose of the test and measurements were several; study the fire behaviour of an electric-hybrid bus, i.e. would the battery fall down into the passenger compartment and thus pose a new risk, or would the battery explode and pose a new risk, investigate the benefits of early detection of fires in the engine compartment and to provide a set of measuring data that can be used by researchers and others that are evaluating and modelling different fire safety means and rescue for buses.Key words: Fire, bus, hybrid, electric vehicle, battery, full-scale fire test

Modeling the breakup of fluid particles in turbulent flows

Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
- A model for breakup of fluid particles in turbulent flows is presented in this article. In the new model two criteria, one stress and one energy criteria, are required to be fulfilled for breakup to occur. A new model for interaction frequency between fluid particles and turbulent eddies is also introduced. Analysis of the model reveals that eddies close in size and up to three times larger than the fluid particle contribute most to the overall breakup rate. This explains the experimental findings by the authors and by other researchers presented recently in the literature that fluid particles often deform significantly before breakup occurs. A high-speed imaging technique, 4000 Hz, was used to measure the breakup rate directly without introducing assumptions regarding the daughter size distributions and the number of fragments formed upon breakup. Validation with these measurements shows that the new model gives excellent predictions. © 2006 American Institute of Chemical Engineers.
