  • Immunodetection using computer screen photo-assisted ellipsometry
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Physica Status Solidi. C: Current Topics in Solid State Physics. - Weinheim, Germany : Wiley-VCH Verlagsgesellschaft. - 1862-6351. ; 5:5, s. 1431-1433
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Detection of antibody-antigen reactions is demonstrated by measuring changes in reflectance of light polarized parallel to the plane of incidence, using a computer screen as light source and a web camera as detector, giving results similar to traditional off-null ellipsometry and in accordance with a simplified theoretical model.

  • Mucosal topography around implants in edentulous upper jaws. Photogrammetric three-dimensional measurements of the effect of replacement of a removable prosthesis with a fixed prosthesis.
  • 1994
  • Ingår i: Clinical oral implants research. - : Wiley. - 0905-7161 .- 1600-0501. ; 5:4, s. 220-8
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A photogrammetric technique was tested to measure the topography of the mucosa around implants, placed in edentulous upper jaws. Photographs were taken of casts from 6 patients, who all had used a removable overdenture for one year. Another series of photographs was taken on new casts after the use of a fixed prosthesis for a second year. The 6 pairs of photographs were measured and compared in an analytical stereo plotter for surface contour and implant positions. The results from the measurements indicated a trend of general recession of the mucosa after one year with fixed prosthesis, both on the buccal as well as on the palatal side. The mean volume of recession was 222.4 mm3, corresponding to an average of 0.4 mm3/mm2 of mucosa. More recession was generally observed on the palatal side, but obvious variations between the patients were present. In conclusion, the photogrammetric technique was considered to be well suited for analysing tissue contours in various dental situations.

  • Frequency Domain Identification, Subspace Methods and Periodic Excitation
  • 1995
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 2nd Russian-Swedish Control Conference. - Linköping : Linköping University. ; , s. 138-142
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Recent frequency domain identification algorithms based on subspace based techniques are discussed. The algorithms construct a state-space model by means of extraction of the signal subspace from a matrix constructed from frequency data. A singular value decomposition plays a key part in the subspace extraction. The subspace methods are non-iterative methods in contrast to classical iterative parametric optimization techniques. The use of periodic excitation leads to a leakage free discrete Fourier transform of the measured data as well as simple noise reduction possibilities by averaging.

  • Income inequality and cooperation in common pools
  • 2002
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • There is empirical evidence of income inequality having a negative effect on common-pool resource management, and contributing to an unequal sharing of the resource. I show that if utility is assumed to be S-shaped, non-cooperative game theory can be used to explain this evidence. When utility is S-shaped, income inequality does have a negative effect on cooperation, except at very low income levels, and makes an uneven distribution of the gains from cooperation efficient. The model also explains why sometimes the poor and sometimes the rich should get the larger share of the benefits from cooperation. In the light of this model, alms-giving, proportional distribution of gains, unequal input of labor and even a certain amount of free-riding can be seen as efficient means of enabling cooperation.

  • Hybrid spatialities : Multi-storey extensions of socialist blocks of flats under post-socialist transition in Serbia, the case of Nis
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Urban Studies. - London : Urban Studies Journal Limited. - 0042-0980 .- 1360-063X. ; 53:6, s. 1261-1277
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The aim of this research is to study the emergence and evolution of the multi-storey extension (MSE) of socialist blocks of flats in the form of additional storeys or lofts on top of host buildings, which is seen as a dominant model of post-socialist spatial change in inherited multi-storey housing areas in Serbia. Relying on an analysis of empirical data sources, interviews, observation and a comparative analysis, the paper investigates the MSE as a predominantly self-organising process. It also considers its manifestations at different operational and spatial levels in the study area of the city of Nis. It is argued that the MSE, under conditions of low economic capacity, an indifferent attitude of local authorities, an inconsistent legislative environment, and the market as an essential driving force of the process, results in uneven urban transformations, both in physical and social terms.

  • The vices of corruption within Zimbabwe’s informal sector : Lessons from vendors in Harare’s Central Business District
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Journal of Development Administration. - Harare, Zimbabwe : Institute of Development Administration (IDA). - 2218-4899 .- 2788-8169. ; 5:1, s. 31-43
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper illustrates the effects of corruption on vending activities in Zimbabwe. The paper’s findings are based on a case study that was conducted at Gulf-Complex which is a market area in Harare Central Business District. The study employed semi-structured interviews with twenty vendors who operate around Gulf-Complex Building. In order to solicit further understanding from officials’ point of view, the study also benefited from the input of six City of Harare Police Officers. The study established that the severity of corruption in vending is due to bad governance coupled with lack of transparency and accountability in the local government. The forms of corruption that occur in vending within Harare’s Central Business District include extortion, bribery and nepotism. The negative consequences of corruption include limiting the chances for business growth, discouraging new investment and reducing the amount of tax collected by the local government. The paper concludes by proposing policy recommendations that can be implemented to tackle emerging challenges associated with corruption within the vending community in Zimbabwe’s informal sector.

  • Assessment of In Vitro and In Silico Protocols for Sequence-Based Characterization of the Human Vaginal Microbiome
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: mSphere. - : American Society for Microbiology. - 2379-5042. ; 5:6
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The vaginal microbiome has been connected to a wide range of health outcomes. This has led to a thriving research environment but also to the use of conflicting methodologies to study its microbial composition. Here, we systematically assessed best practices for the sequencing-based characterization of the human vaginal microbiome. As far as 16S rRNA gene sequencing is concerned, the V1-V3 region performed best in silico, but limitations of current sequencing technologies meant that the V3-V4 region performed equally well. Both approaches presented very good agreement with qPCR quantification of key taxa, provided that an appropriate bioinformatic pipeline was used. Shotgun metagenomic sequencing presents an interesting alternative to 16S rRNA gene amplification and sequencing but requires deeper sequencing and more bioinformatic expertise and infrastructure. We assessed different tools for the removal of host reads and the taxonomic annotation of metagenomic reads, including a new, easy-to-build and -use reference database of vaginal taxa. This curated database performed as well as the best-performing previously published strategies. Despite the many advantages of shotgun sequencing, none of the shotgun approaches assessed here agreed with the qPCR data as well as the 16S rRNA gene sequencing.IMPORTANCE The vaginal microbiome has been connected to various aspects of host health, including susceptibility to sexually transmitted infections as well as gynecological cancers and pregnancy outcomes. This has led to a thriving research environment but also to conflicting available methodologies, including many studies that do not report their molecular biological and bioinformatic methods in sufficient detail to be considered reproducible. This can lead to conflicting messages and delay progress from descriptive to intervention studies. By systematically assessing best practices for the characterization of the human vaginal microbiome, this study will enable past studies to be assessed more critically and assist future studies in the selection of appropriate methods for their specific research questions.
