- The objective of this follow-up study was to determine the long-term outcome of strictly classified cases of neuroborreliosis treated with antibiotics. A one-year prospective population-based survey of Lyme borreliosis was conducted in southern Sweden, between 1992 and 1993. A total of 349 identified cases with suspected neuroborreliosis were followed up 5 years later. Medical records were reviewed and all participants filled in a questionnaire. Of those classified with definite neuroborreliosis 114/130 completed the follow-up, of whom 111 had completed the initial antibiotic treatment. Of the 114 patients followed up, 86 (75%) had recovered completely and 70 (61%) had recovered within 6 months. Residual neurological symptoms such as facial palsy, concentration disorder, paresthesia and/or neuropathy were reported by 28/114. No significant differences between different antibiotic treatments were observed in terms of occurrence of sequelae. To conclude, we found that 25% (95% confidence interval 17-33%) of the patients suffered from residual neurological symptoms 5 years post-treatment. However, the clinical outcome of treated neuroborreliosis is favourable as only 14/114 (12%) of the patients had sequelae that influenced their daily activity post-treatment. Early diagnosis and treatment would seem to be of great importance in order to avoid such sequelae.

- The objective of this follow-up study was to determine the long-term outcome in patients treated with antibiotics for strictly classified cases of neuroborreliosis. A one-year prospective population-based survey of Lyme borreliosis was conducted in southern Sweden, 1992-1993. Totally 349 identified cases with suspected neuroborreliosis were registered. Of those, 130 were classified as definitively neuroborreliosis and followed up five years later. Medical records were reviewed and all participants filled in a questionnaire. Totally, 114/130 (88%) completed the follow-up of whom 111/114 (97%) had fulfilled the initial antibiotic treatment. Of these, 86/114 (75%) had recovered completely and 70 (61%) recovered within six months. However 28/114 (25%) suffered from remaining neurological symptoms such as facial palsy, concentration disorder, paresthesia and/or neuropathy. The longer the duration from the neurological symptoms onset to antibiotic treatment the higher was the rate of sequelae. Of those who were treated within 30 days 5/32 (16%) and of those who were treated after 30 days 16/41 (39%) respectively, reported sequelae. Women suffered significantly more from sequelae compared to men, this difference was not seen among the children. No significant differences between the different antibiotic treatments given and experience of sequelae were seen. To conclude, we found that 25% (95% CI 17% to 33%) of the patients suffered from remaining neurological symptoms five years post treatment. However, the clinical outcome of treated neuroborreliosis is favourable as only 14/114 (12%) of the patients had sequelae that influenced their daily activity post treatment and early diagnosis and treatment seems to be of great importance to possibly avoid also these cases.

Undersökningen tar sikte på hur en kamp om resurserna mellan aktörer i lokalsamhället och centralmakten formar de politiska relationerna mellan parterna. Lokala maktgrupperingar och deras förankring samt deras legitimitet prövas. Det övergripande perspektiv som prövas är begreppet kongomeratstat och dess tillämplighet på Blekinges relation till Danmark under perioden.

- The object of this thesis is to examine the incorporation of the former Danish province of Blekinge into Sweden after the Treaty of Roskilde in 1658. This question has been analysed before but such studies have usually been coloured by the use of national ideas and notions born of a later age than the period under examination. This thesis analyses the so-called Transition Problem using theoretical models and ideas taken from the state formation debate which stresses such concepts as the conglomerate state, centralisation, homogeneity and a striving towards professional administration. The main sources are the archives of a Swedish Royal Commission, the Skånska Kommissionen, 1669-70. This material has made it possible to analyse how the inhabitants of Blekinge regarded their new rulers. In this context questions of identity are also discussed. A description of the interaction of authorities and subjects is central to the thesis and forms the basis of a discussion of integration. An analysis of the tenets of Lutheran Christianity has been deemed of great importance as these norms and values made possible a fruitful meeting between the groups involved. The thesis stresses the role of the inhabitants in the process of integration but also looks at the activities of Royal commissions and seeks to analyse their meetings with the citizens of the realm. A special chapter examines Blekinge's role in, and relationship to, the kingdom of Denmark in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.

- At the Defence Research Establishment of Sweden (FOA) an experimental S-band receiving digital array antenna for radar applications has been designed and built. It consists of a horizontal uniform linear array (ULA) of 12 antenna elements, whose digitized signals are processed in non-real time in a computer. Accurate calibration is utilized.We have compared several spectral and parametric direc- tion-of-arrival (DOA) estimation methods for varying DOA separations, number of samples and signal-to-noise ratios (SNR) on measured data from an anechoic cham- ber.At ideal conditions the resolution can be improved con- siderably with model based DOA methods compared to conventional beamforming. We achieved a resolution 1below /10 of the resolution of conventional beamforming.

Challenging Canon : The Gender Question in Computer Science

- The gender question in computer science is often presented as: "Why are there so few women in computer science and what can be done about that?" This question usually focuses on women. Sometimes 'men' or 'gender' enter the discussions. However, it is not common that the second part of the sentence - computer science - is considered. The papers in this thesis challenge, in different ways, how the gender question is usually perceived and discussed within the community of computer scientists, and where solutions are looked for. The approach taken is to move focus from women/gender to the discipline of computer science itself. This means the question is raised towards a more general level, towards "the science question", discussing the discipline, its paradigms and knowledge processes. Theories and methodologies from gender research, used within computer science, offer new possibilities to develop broader and more complex understandings of "the gender question in computer science".
