    • Simultaneous planar laser induced fluorescence (PLIF) and Rayleigh scattering thermometry (RST) were applied to measure the key species and temperature fields of premixed ammonia/ hydrogen/air jet flames to investigate the effects of differential diffusion on flame structure. NH-PLIF technique was developed to properly characterize the reaction zone of ammonia flames. Three flames with similar laminar combustion characteristics but different Lewis numbers (Le) were investigated. Results show that the reaction zone are locally thickened for all flames at high Karlovitz number (Ka). Furthermore, the reaction layer thickness increases with the Le, indicating that the differential diffusion still plays a role in the turbulent combustion even in the distributed reaction zone regime.

  • Comprehensive applicability evaluation of multi-source snow depth datasets over the Tibetan Plateau

    • Snow cover over the Tibetan Plateau has an important impact on the regional climate and water cycle. At present, the existing snow cover datasets have great uncertainty across this region, so the applicability assessment is indispensable in order to make best use of the advantages and bypass the disadvantages. In this study, a comprehensive quantitative evaluation of multiple variables and multiple evaluation indicators was carried out for three snow depth datasets over the Tibetan Plateau against the meteorological station observations(OBS). The three snow depth datasets include one passive microwave remote sensing dataset(CHE)and two reanalysis datasets(ERA5-Land and MERRA2). The variables are the annual mean snow depth, the annual maximum snow depth, and the annual snow cover days. In addition, the evaluation indicators are seasonal cycle, climatology, maximum value, standard deviation, interannual variation, and trend. A rank score(RS)value of 0~1 is computed for each evaluation indicator of each variable, the larger value of RS indicate relatively better performance of a snow depth dataset. Assessment results imply that, comprehensively considered, MERRA2 exhibits best agreement with OBS, followed by ERA5-Land, and finally CHE. Evaluate based on the RS of each variable, MERRA2 shows better performance on annual maximum snow depth and annual snow cover days, CHE shows better performance on annual mean snow depth. Evaluate based on the RS of each evaluation indicator, CHE shows advantages in describing trend, ERA5-Land exhibits better agreement with OBS on interannual variation, and MERRA2 show better performance on the rest of the indicators including seasonal cycle, climatology, maximum value and standard deviation. The RS statistics in terms of regional average and spatial distribution show that CHE performs better in the former, and ERA5-Land performs better in the latter. On the other hand, there are obvious deficiencies in all three snow depth datasets. MERRA2 has insufficient ability to characterize the interdecadal variation in snow cover, and its qualitative results for trend in snow cover is inconsistent with OBS, the reason for the first deficiency needs to be further studied and the second deficiency may be mainly related to its simulation capability to precipitation trend. ERA5-Land significantly overestimates the snow cover over the Tibetan Plateau, this may be mostly related to its data assimilation scheme. CHE has poor ability to characterize the spatial distribution of snow cover, coarse spatial resolution of passive microwave remote sensing may be the main reason. The conclusions are only applicable to the central and eastern part of the Tibetan Plateau due to the scarcity of meteorological station in west part of the Tibetan Plateau. Based on the remote sensing and reanalysis data, there is great uncertainty in the trend of snow cover in the western part of the Tibetan Plateau. These systematic classification evaluation of the three representative snow depth datasets provides information on data selection and data refinement.

    • The conducting characteristics of two typical electrical trees in cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) cable insulation are studied by a combination of optical microscopy observation, partial discharge measurement and con-focal Raman spectroscopy analysis. Although they are grown under similar conditions, these two trees display very different shapes. One is a typical branch-pine tree grown at 9 kV, and the other is a branch tree grown at 11 kV. The growth and the partial discharge regularities show obvious differences. The disordered graphitic carbon is condensed in the main tree channels of the branch-pine tree. From the relative intensity of the graphitic carbon G band to D band, the graphitic domain is estimated to be about 8 nm in size. The tree channel resistance per unit length is less than 10 Ω· μm-1, which is sufficient to prevent the partial discharge from developing within the tree structure. The branch-pine tree shows the features of the conducting tree. The fluorescence background is observed in the channels of branch tree, which shows the existence of the products of the material degradation, but no disordered graphitic carbon is observed in these tree channels. These tree channels display obvious non-conducting characteristics, which is not sufficient to prevent the continuous effect of the partial discharges. Finally, a single channel growth model is proposed for the conducting and non-conducting trees grown in XLPE cable insulation. Based on the equivalent circuit theory, the growth mechanisms of the two trees with different conducting characteristics in XLPE cable insulation are discussed.

  • Wear mechanism of Cr 3 C 2 /Ni 3 Al composites showing excellent wear resistance

    • The Ni 3 Al intermetallic compound is considered an excellent wear-resistant material. The addition of Cr 3 C 2 particles can further improve the wear resistance of Ni 3 Al-based alloys. In order to elucidate the wear mechanism of Cr 3 C 2 /Ni 3 Al composites improved by the Cr 3 C 2 strengthening phase, Ni 3 Al-alloy and Cr 3 C 2 /Ni 3 Al composites were prepared by the hot isostatic pressing process in this study. The mechanical properties and wear resistance of each phase in the Ni 3 Al-alloy and Cr 3 C 2 /Ni 3 Al composites were investigated using a nano-indentation instrument and a pin-on-disk friction and wear tester, respectively. The worn surface morphologies and the hardness of the subsurface layer under the worn surfaces of the Ni 3 Al-alloy and Cr 3 C 2 /Ni 3 Al composites were determined by a scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and a nano-indentation instrument. The results indicate that the hardness of the matrix phase in the Cr 3 C 2 /Ni 3 Al composites is significantly improved by the addition of Cr 3 C 2 particles. The nano-hardness and the elastic modulus of each phase in the Cr 3 C 2 /Ni 3 Al composites gradually increase from matrix phase through diffusion phase to hard core phase. The mechanical properties between the matrix, diffusion, and hard core phases in the Cr 3 C 2 /Ni 3 Al composites present a gradient transition. This kind of structure distribution is good for enhancing the wear resistance of Cr 3 C 2 /Ni 3 Al composite materials. As for friction and wear conditions in this study, abrasive wear was the dominant wear mechanism, which occurred on the surfaces of the Ni 3 Al-alloy and Cr 3 C 2 /Ni 3 Al composites. The Cr 3 C 2 /Ni 3 Al composites showed a good wear resistant property. The carbide-strengthening phase can block up the cutting action of the wear debris, reduce the interaction between the wear materials, and decrease the thickness of the subsurface layer and the size of the wear debris, resulting in improved wear resistance of Cr 3 C 2 /Ni 3 Al composites.

    • Methyl parathion hydrolase ( MPH ) as and bovine serum albumin (BSA) as hybrid proteins, the target protein, bovine hemoglobin (BHb), myoglobin (Mb) enzyme thermal analysis was used to determine the best separation condition of methyl parathion hydrolase through the study of pH and the NaC1 concentration in mobile phase. The results showed that at pH 8.0, NaC1 concentration of 0.8 mol/L, the separation condition of methyl parathion hydrolase was the best which consistent with the condition reported in the literature.
