  • IMPROVISACIÓN EN DANZA : TRADUCCIONES Y DISTORSIONES
  • 2022
  • Editorial collection (other academic/artistic)abstract

  • Conference paper (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • In this study the use of the generic male form in Spanish is analized from a historical perspective. The conclusion reached is, contrary to what many ascertain, that it arised as a results of an association with a person’s biological sex in the times when women played no part in public life, but exclusively played a part in private life, taking care of children and housework, all of which took place within the system where women were subjugated to men. In this way, for example, it was affirmed not long ago that, as men, of their own nature, were superior to women, the natural thing would be to talk of both sexes in Spanish, for example, in legal texts. With the support of the etiolingüística (Sarmiento, 2006), it is concluded thar the settlement of the generic male form in Spanish is a consequence of a systematic mental programming that García Meseguer (1976) described as “the routine masculinization of the mind”. The dramatic thing is that this programming has reached all persons, including men and women, to the point that even within the last mentioned group there are those who defend the use of the generic male form with the argument, also mentally programmed, that the generic male form is explained and justified as a “a gender that is not marked”.  Here we suggest, after a historical revision, the use of the vocal “e” to revert the anacronic mental program that perpetuates the invisibility of those who not identify themselves with the male gender form. In this way, it is suggested, for example, to say “bienvenides” instead of “bienvenidos” if one is directing oneself towards a mixed public.

  • Barrio Nuevo Barrio Tricolor : Popular Urban Planning in La Cruz, Bucaral, Barrio Nuevo & Bello Campo
  • 2011
  • Other publication (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • This video is devoted to show the way in which popular urban planning works with the program Barrio Nuevo Barrio Tricolor in the popular districs of Barrio Nuevo, Bucaral, Bello Campo and La Cruz, in the municipality of Chacao, State of Miranda, Republica Bolivariana de Venezuela. In the video the participants explain the way in which they perceive the ambitions of the housing program from a participatory and communitarian perspective. There are examples of the complementary division of labour among men and women. In the international debate it has been stressed the displacement of politics. In this particular case this displacement implies the way in which new and popular forms of decision making emerges, for example the “Salas de Batalla Socialista”. As in other instances of participation the role of women is crucial to advance the coordination of the work. Along the communicative skills women show astute ways of exploring potentials and using democratic channels to improve the quality of life of the members of the community.Aparts of the Video are discussed in the paper "El feminismo barrial en la construcción de la ciudad y la ciudadanía: Sus movilizaciones, diagnósticos y formas de participación en la planificación en Medellín, Cochabamba y Caracas", Trienal de investigación FAU 2011 - del 6 al 10 de junio de 2011, available from http://www.fau.ucv.ve/cd/documentos/cs/CS-22.pdf

  • Journal article (other academic/artistic)abstract

  • 2008
  • Doctoral thesis (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • The purpose of the present study is to examine the signification of identitary discourses in the novel Sefarad: Una novela de novelas by Antonio Muñoz Molina and determine to what extent these discourses represent and respond to identitary discourses in contemporary Spanish society. The analysis focuses on three principal questions: how is the narrative constructed, what is conveyed as a result, and what is the aim of the narrative. Identity is understood as a social construction, an individual and continuous process of assuming, defining, negotiating and maintaining cultural identities, elements of the surrounding world that provide the individual with a sense of meaning (Fromm 1956; Castiñeira 2005; Marsella 2008). The novel consists of different stories that manifest the social impact of the totalitarian regimes in Europe during the twentieth century, told by a diversity of voices. First, the analysis deals with the structure of the text, examined through the model of mise en abyme (Dällenbach 1989). Secondly, the significations of transition, transgression (Lotman 1978) and, analogically, stigmatization are deduced (Goffman 1972), processes that are related to the effects of the frontier as a metaphor (Pratt Ewing 1998) and to limit situations (Jaspers 1974). Thirdly, the study stresses the representation of the past, in which trauma, melancholy and mourning are significant (Benjamin 1992; Freud 1986). The conclusions confirm the claim that the novel corresponds to humanity’s treasure of suffering (Leidschatz), a cultural possession that thematizes the processes of memory and oblivion (Assmann 1999), represented through stories told by the victims of intolerance at different levels. The text is accordingly conceived as a mirror through which the narrator constructs his identity as a writer and transmits meaning to the reader by providing the opportunity to reflect upon identity issues today.
