  • Evolutionary Versatile Printable RFID Antennas For "Green" Electronics
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Journal Electromagnetic Waves and Applications. - : Taylor & Francis. - 0920-5071 .- 1569-3937. ; 26:2-3, s. 264-273
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The development of low cost directly printable RFID tag antennas is essential for item level tracking. We present evolutionary design approach to achieve robust extremely versatile RFID antennas on paper/flexible substrates which allow a simple integration directly on, e.g., paperboard in a roll-to-roll production line. Fully integrated printed tags for "green" electronics are designed for operability in frequencies 866-868 MHz & 902-928 MHz. We present benchmarking results for various challenges of antennas in terms of ruggedness, reliability and flexing performance.

  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Journal of Electromagnetic Waves and Applications. - UK : Taylor & Francis. - 0920-5071 .- 1569-3937. ; 26:14-15, s. 2043-2050
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The novel idea of integrating RFID with sensors along with other wireless applications by using single tag antenna is implemented, by fabricating proposed antenna using state-of-the-art inkjet printing technology on commercially available paper substrates. For the first time, a parametric analysis is performed for realization of planar log-spiral antenna on paper for operational range from 0.8-3.0GHz, which also exhibits excellent coverage throughout numerous RFID ISM bands, and for other wireless applications. The ANSYS HFSS tool is used to design and predict the performance of the proposed antenna in terms of radiation pattern and input impedance.

  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Journal Electromagnetic Waves and Applications. - UK : Taylor & Francis. - 0920-5071 .- 1569-3937. ; 26:17-18, s. 2365-2371
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • For the first time, two-arm planar sinuous antenna is demonstrated to realize the emerging concept of integrating RFID functionalities along with sensors and other wireless applications for "green" electronics. In-depth, parametric analysis is performed for the proposed antenna which is fabricated on a paper substrate using revolutionary inkjet printing technology to develop a system-level solution for ultra-low-cost mass production of multipurpose wireless tags in an approach that could be easily expanded to other microwave and wireless "cognition" applications. The proposed antenna exhibits excellent performance throughout several RFID ISM bands and for other wireless applications in its operational range from 0.8 to 3.0 GHz.

  • Method of moments and the use of multipole expansion
  • 1991
  • Ingår i: Journal Electromagnetic Waves and Applications. - 1569-3937. ; 5:11, s. 1237-1257
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In electromagnetic boundary value problems integral equations involving the free space Green function for the Helmholtz equation often occur. Using the method of moments to numerically solve such an equation a matrix equation is obtained. The entries of the matrix are given as multidimensional integrals which in general have to be calculated numerically. This paper presents an efficient method to approximate the main Part of these integrals. The free space Green function is expanded in scalar spherical wave functions. The translation properties of these wave functions then imply that the matrix elements can be expressed as a series of multipole moments. The method is illustrated by an implementation in the static case and the computation of the capacitance of a square plate. Basis functions with the correct edge and corner behaviour are used. The calculations of the multipole moments are done analytically. Numerical results using the point-matching and Galerkin's method are presented.

  • Moment-method calculations of scattering by a square plate using singular basis functions and multipole expansions
  • 1993
  • Ingår i: Journal Electromagnetic Waves and Applications. - 1569-3937. ; 7:1, s. 93-121
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The method of moments is used to solve electromagenetic boundary value problems numerically. It is known that the choice of basis functions is crucial for the numerical efficiency. Fast convergence is achieved provided the basis functions efficiently approximate the unknown function. In this paper the far field (incl. RCS) of a thin square conducting plate is calculated. Basis functions with correct edge and corner singularities are shown to greatly enhance the convergence compared to ordinary "rooftop" functions. The calculations of the matrix elements as well as the right side of the matrix equation and the scattered field are simplified by the use of a multipole technique.

  • Optimal electromagnetic measurements
  • 2001
  • Ingår i: Journal Electromagnetic Waves and Applications. - 1569-3937. ; 15:10, s. 1323-1336
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We consider the problem of obtaining information about an inaccessible half-space from electromagnetic measurements made in the accessible half-space. If the measurements are of limited precision, some scatterers will be undetectable because their scattered fields are below the precision of the measuring instrument. How can we make optimal measurements? In other words, what incident fields should we apply that will result in the biggest measurements? There are many ways to formulate this question, depending on the measuring instruments. In this paper we consider a formulation involving wave-splitting in the accessible half-space: what downgoing wave will result in an upgoing wave of greatest energy? This formulation is most natural for far-field problems. A closely related question arises in the case when we have a guess about the configuration of the inaccessible half-space. What measurements should we make to determine whether our guess is accurate? In this case we compare the scattered field to the field computed from the guessed configuration. Again we look for the incident field that results in the greatest energy difference. We show that the optimal incident field can be found by an iterative process involving time reversal "mirrors". For band-limited incident fields and compactly supported scatterers, this iterative process converges to a sum of time-harmonic fields.

  • A compact dual-band bandpass SIW filter
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Journal Electromagnetic Waves and Applications. - : Taylor & Francis. - 0920-5071 .- 1569-3937. ; 27:3, s. 338-344
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A novel method for the design of substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) dual-band bandpass filter is presented in this paper. Dual-band response is achieved by TE101 mode and diagonal TE201 (TE102) mode. The resonant frequency of TE101 mode can be adjusted by the location of perturbation vias while the resonant frequency of diagonal TE201 (TE102) mode keeps unchanged. A design example with second-order filter response is given and verified by experiments. The vertically stacked SIW resonators are used here to save the size.

  • Time domain analysis of higher order modes induced power dissipation in accelerating cavities
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Journal of Electromagnetic Waves and Applications. - : Informa UK Limited. - 0920-5071 .- 1569-3937. ; 31:17, s. 1843-1863
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We give a semi-analytical method for the calculation of the transient power and energy dissipated in the cavity walls of an accelerating structure due to the excitation of the higher order modes by a sequence of accelerating bunches. We treat the case where more than one bunch is present in the structure at the same time. The dissipated power is evaluated using the Lagrangian formalism and the dissipation function. Both the dissipated power from the transient fields, present when the bunch is inside the cavity, and from the time harmonic fields, present when the bunch has left the cavity, are included in the evaluations. This method is applied to the six-cell elliptic medium beta cavities for the LINAC of the European Spallation Source. The simulations constitute a thorough test of the dissipated power of the design.

  • NEW BROADBAND ZERO PHASE SHIFTER BASED ON NEGATIVE REFRACTION INDEX TRANSMISSION LINE
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Journal Electromagnetic Waves and Applications. - : Informa UK Limited. - 0920-5071 .- 1569-3937. ; 22:14-15, s. 2069-2075
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper presents the design of one dimensional broadband phase shifters based on a new class of negative refraction index transmission line. The proposed phase shifter here consists of conventional microstrip line and Negative Refraction Index (NRI) transmission line (TL) in which ideal operational amplifiers are applied to form the periodically loaded negative-impedance-converted inductors and capacitors. It is demonstrated that variations in inductors and capacitors can produce arbitrary phase shifts while maintaining the same overall length. Also, the NRI-TL is non-dispersive so that the new phase shifter can be used in many new broadband devices.
