  • A Model for Reflective Participatory Design : The Role of Participation, Voice and Space
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: 21st Americas Conference on Information Systems. - : Americas Conference on Information Systems. - 9780996683104
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper aims to contribute to the participatory tradition in health informatics by presenting a model for reflective participatory design emerging from qualitative fieldwork in a participatory project aimed to improve the health and wellbeing of older people in the northern periphery regions of Europe, through new mobile services. The model brings together two established processes in novel ways: systems development and user participation. Within each process three concepts are presented to facilitate discussion and reflection at the concept level, the process level and the integrated process level.

  • Fragmented Digital Infrastructures : The case of Social (News) Media
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: 21st Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS 2015). - Red Hook, NY : Curran Associates, Inc.. - 9780996683104 - 9781510814936 ; , s. 1172-1182
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Digitization and contemporary use of social media platforms is changing how we perceive and use IT, both in organizations and as citizens or consumers. These developments have also transformed and changed many industries, bringing both opportunities and challenges. One industry that was affected by digitization relatively early is the media industry, leading to studies on online journalism, gatekeeping, reader interaction and other changing practices enabled by IT.This study attempts to highlight the IT infrastructure behind the changing practice to understand the relationship between the IT and the use. Through an online ethnography, this paper investigates the use of social media platforms in the newspaper industry. The findings indicate that newspapers either use an integration strategy, where they relinquish control over the feature to the social media platform, or an appropriation strategy where they take the integration a step further, to have the social media platform work for them.

  • Action design research : Design of e-WIL for the manufacturing industry
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: 2015 Americas Conference on Information Systems, AMCIS 2015. - : Americas Conference on Information Systems. ; , s. 1-14
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper reports on a design process of e-learning courses for competence development of experienced employees in the manufacturing industry. Through a crossorganizational collaborative action design research project the aim was to design e-learning courses at university level to support work-integrated learning. Two designand learning cycles were evaluated over two years. The first cycle identified challenges that were applied to a pilot course in Industrial automation. From evaluation of this course we derived design principles applied to two further courses in Machining and Negotiation skills. The results from our empirical data suggest general principles as competence mapping work, collaborative manufacturing e-WIL cases and interactive learning technologies for design of e-WIL courses as boundary crossing activities to reach transformative learning integrated in the manufacturing industry.

  • Co-using infrastructure for sustainability in maritime transports
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: 2015 Americas Conference on Information Systems, AMCIS 2015. - : Americas Conference on Information Systems. - 9780996683104
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Sustainable transportation systems require optimal co-use of infrastructure. Different means of transportation use infrastructure for its operations. At certain points these means of transportation utilizes the same infrastructure, such as e.g. passages on or under bridges, which require co-modal coordination. To create means for such coordination, situational awareness needs to be established among involved actors by digitalization and principles for information sharing. In this short paper, a comodal transport system, GOTRIS (Göta Älv River Information Services), is used as a basis for a deeper understanding of the challenges for reaching an optimal co-use of infrastructure. By integrating information from maritime transports as one source in this coordination effort, sustainable transportation systems can be reached. This challenge is formulated in a research question and a preferred approach is stated.

  • Organizational Structure in IT Governance : A Case Study of an IT Governance Implementation Project
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: AMCIS 2015 Proceedings. - : Association for Information Systems. - 9780996683104
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The organizations today need to apply proper IT governance for beneficial IT investments.. This research focuses on how the organization structure should be done through the IT governance mechanisms application. A case study is done in a large Swedish constructing company using the ISO/IEC 38500:2008 IT governance standard. Several IT governance practices related to the ISO/IEC 38500:2008 standard were identified which were mostly related to “Responsibility”, “Strategy” and “Performance” compared to “Conformance” and “Acquisition” principals. The results reveal the importance of the way that the company has chosen to structure its organization around the IT project in their IT Governance mechanism. This is closely linked to the principle of “Responsibility”. Practically the standard can be used in future IT projects and the practices found in this study can be beneficial for analyzing and achieving an effective IT Governance implementation.

  • Core Aspects for Value Co-Creation in Public Sector
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: AMCIS 2015 Proceedings. - : Association for Information Systems. - 9780996683104
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • There is a great potential for creating public value by engaging and getting citizens to collaborate together with governments in public activities. E-government and open government enable citizens and governments to collaborate and (co)-create value that benefit both parties, but there are factors inhibiting value to be co-created and realized in the public sector. Research on value co-creation has been mainly focused on the private sector and on positive outcomes and hence it is not enough knowledge of how to make value co-creation successful in the public sector. Drawing from previous research and data gathered during the design of open government services in two different research projects in Sweden, this research proposes core aspects for public value co-creation and identifies inhibitors for its realization. This paper thereby expands the knowledge on value co-creation and depicts that public value co-creation connects the fields of value co-creation, e-government and open government.

  • Ambidexterity and Paradexterity: A typology of IT Governance contradictions
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of Americas Conference of Information Systems. - 9780996683104 ; 2015
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The theoretical construct of organizational ambidexterity addresses how organizations balance managerial contradictions such as exploitation and exploration or efficiency and flexibility. The underlying argument is that management should involve not a trade-off between two states, but simultaneous handling of contradictions. This paper expands the theory of organizational ambidexterity through introducing a typology of contradictions in the form of dichotomies and dualities within a particular management focus, i.e. IT Governance. The paper utilizes a previous study of IT Governance practice at two large, public universities to propose a typology and the concept of paradexterity. Through this, the paper seeks to add new knowledge to the fields of both organizational ambidexterity and IT Governance.

  • The green fingerprint : Decreasing energy consumption with decision support systems
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: 2015 Americas Conference on Information Systems, AMCIS 2015. - 9780996683104
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Sustainable business development is a challenge that requires both organizational change and changes to individual behavior. We report on the design and implementation of an app-based decision support system designed to promote environmentally responsible behavior among individuals in a B2B setting. The app, known as the "Green Fingerprint" was designed in collaboration with a commercial real estate firm and subsequently deployed in several tenant sites in the greater Stockholm area. We measured energy productivity defined as revenue in Swedish Kronor/kilowatt hours of electricity consumption. Over a two year period participating firms were able to significantly increase energy productivity by as much as much as 100% as a result of direct feedback and adopting conservation techniques recommended by the system. Increased energy productivity resulted in annual energy costs that were substantially less than if energy productivity had not increased.

  • Mobile business intelligence usage patterns
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: 2015 Americas Conference on Information Systems, AMCIS 2015. - 9780996683104
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The generation of new mobile devices and the need to make decisions 'on the move' led to a new technology coined as mobile business intelligence (m-BI). M-BI is different from traditional BI in terms of user profiles, level of analytics and functionalities. Although there is a growing interest from both practitioners and academics, very little is known about m-BI in general and even less on its usage. A case study research is conducted to explore how m-BI usage patterns emerge and develop. M-BI is used to investigate after a trigger, monitor real-time data, control and support liminality. Users engage with m-BI based on the their mode (lean back or lean forward) and attention scope (narrow or wide). However, usage patterns developed are not static as m-BI users engage continuously with different usage patterns when shifting among different modes and attention scopes.
