Individually tailored Internet-delivered cognitive-behavioral therapy for survivors of intimate partner violence : A randomized controlled pilot trial

- Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a serious public health concern worldwide and defined as behavior performed by spouses or other intimate partners that causes physical, sexual, or psychological harm. Internet-delivered cognitive-behavioral therapy (ICBT) may be particularly useful for survivors of IPV for several reasons, including barriers pertaining to limited community recourses and treatment availability, safety concerns, and issues of stigma, guilt and shame, which may prevent members of this population from seeking help via face-to-face interactions. However, Internet interventions are lacking. The primary aim of the present randomized controlled pilot trial was to explore the feasibility of ICBT as guided self-help individually tailored to the predominant symptomatology of PTSD or depression in survivors of IPV. A second aim was to conduct a preliminary evaluation exploring the short- and long-term effects of the treatment in comparison to a waitlist control condition. Results showed that the treatment was feasible. Attrition rate was low (9.4%), and participants were satisfied with treatment. However, treatment adherence was moderate in terms of completed modules (62.5%). Results of the preliminary evaluation of treatment effects showed large and statistically significant between-group effect sizes (Cohen's d = 0.86–1.08) on some measures of PTSD and depression at post assessment, favoring the treatment condition. However, there were no effects on other measures. At follow-up assessment, when the control condition had received delayed treatment, there were large and statistically significant within-group effect sizes (d = 0.96–1.48) on measures of PTSD, depression and anxiety, and small effects (d = 0.48) on a measure of quality of life. The results of the present pilot study are promising and warrant further research on ICBT for this population.

Design of glycopeptides used to investigate class II MHC binding and T-Cell responses associated with autoimmune arthritis

- The glycopeptide fragment CII259–273 from type II collagen (CII) binds to the murine Aq and human DR4 class II Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC II) proteins, which are associated with development of murine collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA), respectively. It has been shown that CII259–273 can be used in therapeutic vaccination of CIA. This glycopeptide also elicits responses from T-cells obtained from RA patients, which indicates that it has an important role in RA as well. We now present a methodology for studies of (glyco)peptide-receptor interactions based on a combination of structure-based virtual screening, ligand-based statistical molecular design and biological evaluations. This methodology included the design of a CII259–273 glycopeptide library in which two anchor positions crucial for binding in pockets of Aq and DR4 were varied. Synthesis and biological evaluation of the designed glycopeptides provided novel structure-activity relationship (SAR) understanding of binding to Aq and DR4. Glycopeptides that retained high affinities for these MHC II proteins and induced strong responses in panels of T-cell hybridomas were also identified. An analysis of all the responses revealed groups of glycopeptides with different response patterns that are of high interest for vaccination studies in CIA. Moreover, the SAR understanding obtained in this study provides a platform for the design of second-generation glycopeptides with tuned MHC affinities and T-cell responses.

- Interest has grown over recent years in policy programs targeting a green, bio-based economy. In the European Union, the European Commission promotes the development of bioeconomy policy and encourages the use of biomass and waste for industrial purposes. Alongside these technical dimensions, European bioeconomy policy also promotes knowledge sharing, learning from others, and so-called ‘best practice’. Consequently, many European places and policymakers that have committed to developing a bio-based economy are now sharing their positive policy experiences. However, sharing ‘best practice’ for green economy policy programs has sometimes been described as producing oversimplified views of complex climate issues. Despite such criticisms, policymakers continue to search for and share bioeconomy policy ‘best practice’. This paper explores the development of bioeconomy policy with a focus on shareability and dissemination of ‘best practice’ in two Swedish regions, Värmland and Västerbotten. Herein, we adopt the conceptual underpinnings of urban policy mobilities to explain green policymaking, and more specifically bioeconomy policy development on a regional scale. So far, policy mobilities research has had a primarily urban focus, whereas this paper provides valuable insights into how these processes take place within regional and more peripheral settings. Thus, we seek to understand the role of ‘best practice’ in the development of regional bioeconomy policies and which elements of these policies are promoted as transferable elsewhere.

- The public management of urban space is an everyday practice that requires development. But how is “creative work” done in a public context? The idea of offering outdoor offices and outdoor conferences is being implemented in an open-air museum, owned by a middle-sized city in Sweden. This chapter focuses on their ambitions to be innovative, and the practices officials engage in, to innovate. The ethnographic material comprises interviews texts and observations. The study draws on theory on social innovation practice (Aasen and Amundsen 2013) and on sociologist Hartmut Rosa´s (2016, 2019) concept resonance, forming an analysis of a municipality´s innovation practices as responses to change. The study finds that innovation work is presented as a more efficient use of existing resources, while it promises improved work health for the public. One conclusion is that innovation work requires communicating a culture of courage. The explored case shows the different ways in which outdoor offices and conferences are expected to create efficiency and health experiences as new potential values, proposed for citizens and visitors in the innovation practices. Doing social innovation, based on the case of outdoor offices and conferences and the concept of resonance, constitute a response to new societal norms, such as the free choice of office workplace and place independence.

- Internationaliseringen av den svenska akademin har kommit olika långt vid olika lärosäten och inom olika ämnesområden. Det är dock uppenbart att Sveriges lärosäten aktivt kommer att behöva ytterligare internationalisera sin verksamhet för att kunna påverka ännu mer lokalt, regionalt, nationellt och internationellt. Internationellt samarbete finns givetvis sedan länge inom utbildning och/eller forskning, men sällan sammanhållen med samverkan med näringsliv och offentlig verksamhet. Allt fler lärosäten funderar nu på hur man strategiskt ska koppla ihop internationalisering med lärosätets ambition för samverkan. Högskolornas nästa utmaning är att bygga kompletta internationella kunskapsmiljöer där samverkan kommer att behövas i lika stor grad som på den nationella arenan.

- This chapter takes an interest in the world of platforms for creative and cultural work. Platforms for creative and cultural work started to become popular in the late 20th century, and their popularity has grown rapidly over the years. Taking its point of departure from these platforms, this chapter aims to shed light upon and discuss the work of the professionals who handle and manage these platforms. Through narratives of and about the work of these platform professionals, the chapter illustrates how creativity and creative work are encouraged and facilitated. The main contribution of the chapter is the identification and discussion of two core practices in platform professionals’ narratives of how they enable creativity and cultural work. We reflect upon how creativity is conceived of as a project requiring different kinds of administrative and material support, which the managers of these creative clusters, incubators, and makerspaces provide. Furthermore, we introduce the idea that platform professionals can be perceived as a contemporary guild whose actions, and use of language and terms illustrate the creative imperative of our time.

- Molecular docking plays an important role in drug discovery as a tool for the structure-based design of small organic ligands for macromolecules. Possible applications of docking are identification of the bioactive conformation of a protein−ligand complex and the ranking of different ligands with respect to their strength of binding to a particular target. We have investigated the effect of implicit water on the postprocessing of binding poses generated by molecular docking using MM-PB/GB-SA (molecular mechanics Poisson−Boltzmann and generalized Born surface area) methodology. The investigation was divided into three parts: geometry optimization, pose selection, and estimation of the relative binding energies of docked protein−ligand complexes. Appropriate geometry optimization afforded more accurate binding poses for 20% of the complexes investigated. The time required for this step was greatly reduced by minimizing the energy of the binding site using GB solvation models rather than minimizing the entire complex using the PB model. By optimizing the geometries of docking poses using the GBHCT+SA model then calculating their free energies of binding using the PB implicit solvent model, binding poses similar to those observed in crystal structures were obtained. Rescoring of these poses according to their calculated binding energies resulted in improved correlations with experimental binding data. These correlations could be further improved by applying the postprocessing to several of the most highly ranked poses rather than focusing exclusively on the top-scored pose. The postprocessing protocol was successfully applied to the analysis of a set of Factor Xa inhibitors and a set of glycopeptide ligands for the class II major histocompatibility complex (MHC) Aq protein. These results indicate that the protocol for the postprocessing of docked protein−ligand complexes developed in this paper may be generally useful for structure-based design in drug discovery.
