  • Hur når vi en fossilfri avfallsförbänning? - En scenarioanalys
  • 2019
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The Swedish Riksdag has decided that Sweden by 2045 should not have any net greenhouse gas emissions to the atmosphere. To acheive this, waste incineration also needs to be fossil-free. How is Sweden going to get there? Today, there are a cuntless number of products that consist entirely or partly of fossil plastics and are today energy recovered in Sweden's waste incineration plants. Changing this requires powerful measures with consequences for, for example, socioeconomics, law and regulations for trade and recycling of plastics. The purpose of this report is to analyse various possible scenarios to acheieve the goal of "a fossil-free wast incineration". The different scenarios have different system boundaries and are based on different principles, but all in their own way reaches fossil-free wast incineration. Initially seven different scenarios are discussed in the report. Of these, four scenarios have been analysed somewhat deeper. The scenario analysis is qualitative and is intended to provide an overall assessment of feasibility and potential to achieve fossil-free waste incineration. The anlysis has been conducted regarding the criteria for socioeconomic costs; Reduction of fossil emissions globally; Need for technology development and innovation as well as legal feasibility.

  • Materialåtervinningscertifikat för plast
  • 2020

  • Use of economic instruments in Nordic environmental policies 2018-2021
  • 2023
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The report contains two parts. Part 1 summarizes the most significantdevelopments in the use of economic instruments in the environmental policies inthe Nordic countries. It provides an overview of new instruments or major changesto existing instruments from 2018 to 2021 a detailed country-by-countrydescription of these developments and a cross-country comparison andassessment. Part 1 also provides “raw data” for further analysis by policymakersand other stakeholders, and presents other findings, including policy priorities andgood practices. Part 2 provides an overview overview of policies and instrumentsthe Nordic countries have used to promote clean technologies.

  • Guidelines for the use and interpretation of assays for monitoring autophagy
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Autophagy. - : Informa UK Limited. - 1554-8635 .- 1554-8627. ; 8:4, s. 445-544
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In 2008 we published the first set of guidelines for standardizing research in autophagy. Since then, research on this topic has continued to accelerate, and many new scientists have entered the field. Our knowledge base and relevant new technologies have also been expanding. Accordingly, it is important to update these guidelines for monitoring autophagy in different organisms. Various reviews have described the range of assays that have been used for this purpose. Nevertheless, there continues to be confusion regarding acceptable methods to measure autophagy, especially in multicellular eukaryotes. A key point that needs to be emphasized is that there is a difference between measurements that monitor the numbers or volume of autophagic elements (e.g., autophagosomes or autolysosomes) at any stage of the autophagic process vs. those that measure flux through the autophagy pathway (i.e., the complete process); thus, a block in macroautophagy that results in autophagosome accumulation needs to be differentiated from stimuli that result in increased autophagic activity, defined as increased autophagy induction coupled with increased delivery to, and degradation within, lysosomes (in most higher eukaryotes and some protists such as Dictyostelium) or the vacuole (in plants and fungi). In other words, it is especially important that investigators new to the field understand that the appearance of more autophagosomes does not necessarily equate with more autophagy. In fact, in many cases, autophagosomes accumulate because of a block in trafficking to lysosomes without a concomitant change in autophagosome biogenesis, whereas an increase in autolysosomes may reflect a reduction in degradative activity. Here, we present a set of guidelines for the selection and interpretation of methods for use by investigators who aim to examine macroautophagy and related processes, as well as for reviewers who need to provide realistic and reasonable critiques of papers that are focused on these processes. These guidelines are not meant to be a formulaic set of rules, because the appropriate assays depend in part on the question being asked and the system being used. In addition, we emphasize that no individual assay is guaranteed to be the most appropriate one in every situation, and we strongly recommend the use of multiple assays to monitor autophagy. In these guidelines, we consider these various methods of assessing autophagy and what information can, or cannot, be obtained from them. Finally, by discussing the merits and limits of particular autophagy assays, we hope to encourage technical innovation in the field.

  • Zero-emission vehicles and zones in Nordic cities - Promotion, instruments and effects
  • 2021
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The Nordic cities should be given greater legislative possibilities to reward the use of zero-emission vehicles. This legislation may include the possibility of introducing some form of environmental zone or levying traffic fees in urban areas. Cities are advised to put together packages deploying a raft of instruments that mutually reinforce one another. As a basic package, most cities should work with improved conditions for zero-emission vehicles as charging and / or tank infrastructure, requirements for zero-emission vehicles in public procurement of vehicles and services, complementary measures that increase the supply and attractiveness of alternatives to the car, as well as measures that promote sustainable mobility and urban development independent of vehicle technology. It is also important that improved charging capabilities for zero-emission vehicles go hand in hand with an environmentally friendly parking policy. Increased demand for zero-emission vehicle charging points will then be a good reason to review the city´s parking policy. Under the right conditions ambitious cities can implement a more comprehensive policy package with a combination of various forms of zero emission zones or fee systems. To fully implement these measures, cities must have a high proportion of zero-emission vehicles in the fleet as well as strengthening possibilities for residents to move around freely without having to own a car.

  • Environmentally differentiated port dues
  • 2019
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This is the final report of the research project Environmentally differentiated port dues. The purposes of the research are to examine how environmentally differentiated dues and incentives in ports can reduce the environmental impact caused by transport modes that call at the port, and their consequences from legal, political and goods flow perspectives. Both land and sea transport are addressed. The project examines how ports, as important parts of international transport chains, can contribute to the environmental and climate objectives, by introducing environmentally differentiated port dues to promote a shift to more environmentally efficient transport, vehicles, ships, technologies and alternative fuels.

  • Policies supporting reuse, collective use and prolonged life-time of textiles
  • 2019
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • In 2016 138 000 tonnes of new clothes and household textiles were put on the Swedishmarket (Statistics Sweden, 2017). The production of textile products causes significantenvironmental impacts. Business models engaged in reuse, collective use and prolongedlife-time of textiles therefore have a potential to contribute to reduced total textileconsumption and, as a consequence, reduced environmental impacts from textileproduction.Preceding work in Mistra Future Fashion (Watson et al, 2017) identified ten differentsupporting policy instruments for business models that extend active lifetimes ofgarments. The objective of this report is to select three of the previously identified policyinstruments and estimate the economic, environmental, social effects of these. The threepolicy instruments selected for further assessment were:- A wage subsidy earmarked for businesses that extend the active lifetime of textiles- A knowledge hub assisting businesses start up or transition to more circular models- Start-up/transition fund for business models/initiatives that extend the activelifetime of textiles.
