  • Adjusting Initiation Direction to Domains of Rock Mass Discontinuities in Aitik Open Pit Mine
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: 11th International Symposium on Rock Fragmentation by Blasting. - Carlton, Vic : The Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy. - 9781925100327 ; , s. 385-391
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • As demand for optimisation of mining processes increases, more attention is drawn to blast performance and fragmentation improvement. Fractures and discontinuities are among the most influential factors in blast results, therefore one of the initial steps towards blast optimisation is to gather information about the rock mass and integrate it in blast design. This paper presents a method for assessment of rock mass discontinuities and integrating it in production blasts in the Aitik open pit copper mine in Sweden. 3D photogrammetric techniques were utilised to map discontinuities and distinguish domains of similar geologic structures in the pit. As a pilot study for a future campaign, four different initiation directions were tested through six pilot blasts in one of the domains. The results were compared in terms of swell and loading efficiency of rope shovels to identify the correlation between blast performance and initiation direction compared to major discontinuity families. It was established that in the trial domain, blasts initiated towards north or north-west yielded larger swell and better performance of loading. Comparing these blasts with discontinuity families show that there is a correlation between blast performance and initiation direction according to the dip and strike of these discontinuities. Such knowledge can be used for future blasts in the same domain to increase long-term operational efficiency through slight modifications in drill pattern and initiation design.

  • The prevalence and alterations of furcation involvements 13 to 16 years after periodontal treatment
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Swedish Dental Journal. - : Sveriges Tandläkarförbund. - 0347-9994. ; 37:2, s. 87-95
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The aim of this study was to evaluate the long term outcome of furcation involved molars in a population treated for periodontal disease. Initially, the study sample was 147 referred periodontal patients. Periodontal treatment consisted of oral hygiene instructions, supra- and subgingival scaling and periodontal surgery. After treatment 99 patients participated in a two year study on root caries. The patients got maintenance treatment every third to fourth month during 2 years. At the end of that study the patients were periodontally healthy and were referred back for supportive treatment to the referring dentist. Thirteen to 16 years after periodontal treatment 81 patients were still alive and 64 accepted a re-examination. At the start of the observation period the remaining 64 patients had in total 1537 teeth. During the 13 to 16 year follow up 217 teeth were lost. The number of molars at baseline was 361. The number of furcation involvement with different degrees were; 267 (0), 67 (I), 25 (II) and 2 (III) respectively. Totally 69 molars were lost during follow up. The proportion of molar loss according to the degree of furcation involvements 0 to III at baseline were 15%, 29%, 40% and 100% respectively. It was a significant greater risk of loosing an initially furcation involved molar than a single rooted tooth (pandlt;0.0001). The risk of loosing an initially furcated molar increased with the degree of furcation involvement (degree I; pandlt;0.05, degree II; pandlt;0.01). I N CONCLUSION: During a long term observation period molars with furcation involvements are more frequently lost than not furcation involved molars. However, two thirds are still in function 13 to 16 years after treatment which indicate that molars with furcation involvements might survive long after periodontal treatment.

  • Contested circularity : Analyzing the perceptions towards the use of waste incineration bottom ash in Sweden
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Resources, Conservation and Recycling. - : Elsevier BV. - 0921-3449 .- 1879-0658. ; 204
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study investigates the perceptions of three Swedish stakeholders towards the contested use of waste incineration bottom ash as aggregates outside landfills: waste producers, users and authorities. The interview study shows that the stakeholders lack incentives to circulate bottom ash. Waste producers have a functional outlet for bottom ash by using it as landfill cover. Since the transition from gravel to crushed rock, the availability of natural aggregates is enormous in Sweden at low environmental and economic costs. This causes the potential users of bottom ash to prioritize conventional aggregates. In cases where waste-based aggregates are nevertheless used, they are taken from project-internal sources. Hence, there are few incentives for the authorities to change the currently unfavorable regulations for using bottom ash as aggregates. With unclear environmental benefits and contested interests, the rationale for circulating bottom ash appears to be driven by morality.

  • Relatives' Experiences of Mental Health Care, Family Burden and Family Stigma: Does Participation in Patient-Appointed Resource Group Assertive Community Treatment (RACT) Make a Difference?
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Issues in Mental Health Nursing. - : Informa UK Limited. - 0161-2840 .- 1096-4673. ; 42:11, s. 1010-1019
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The aim of this exploratory cross-sectional study was to investigate the experiences of relatives of individuals with severe mental illness with and without participation in patient-appointed Resource Group Assertive Community Treatment (RACT). A total of 139 relatives (79 with and 60 without RACT) completed the Family Involvement and Alienation Questionnaire, the Burden Inventory for Relatives of Persons with Psychotic Disturbances, and the family version of the Inventory of Stigmatizing Experiences. We found that relatives participating in RACT experienced a more positive approach from the healthcare professionals, as well as a lower degree of alienation from the provision of care. Relatives who did not participate in RACT were more afraid that their ill next of kin would hurt someone. No other differences in family burden were found. Experiences of family stigmatization were similar in both groups. In conclusion, participating in patient-appointed RACT may contribute to a higher level of satisfaction for relatives in their encounter with healthcare professionals and a more positive alliance. Implementation of RACT in new settings would require adaptation to local conditions to facilitate cooperation between healthcare staff and other relevant services. Staff training focuses on the case manager function and needs assessment, as well as how to create an alliance with the patient and his/her relatives.

  • A method for studying pico to microsecond time-resolved core-level spectroscopy used to investigate electron dynamics in quantum dots
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Scientific Reports. - : Springer Nature. - 2045-2322. ; 10:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Time-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy can give insights into carrier dynamics and offers the possibility of element and site-specific information through the measurements of core levels. In this paper, we demonstrate that this method can access electrons dynamics in PbS quantum dots over a wide time window spanning from pico- to microseconds in a single experiment carried out at the synchrotron facility BESSY II. The method is sensitive to small changes in core level positions. Fast measurements at low pump fluences are enabled by the use of a pump laser at a lower repetition frequency than the repetition frequency of the X-ray pulses used to probe the core level electrons: Through the use of a time-resolved spectrometer, time-dependent analysis of data from all synchrotron pulses is possible. Furthermore, by picosecond control of the pump laser arrival at the sample relative to the X-ray pulses, a time-resolution limited only by the length of the X-ray pulses is achieved. Using this method, we studied the charge dynamics in thin film samples of PbS quantum dots on n-type MgZnO substrates through time-resolved measurements of the Pb 5d core level. We found a time-resolved core level shift, which we could assign to electron injection and charge accumulation at the MgZnO/PbS quantum dots interface. This assignment was confirmed through the measurement of PbS films with different thicknesses. Our results therefore give insight into the magnitude of the photovoltage generated specifically at the MgZnO/PbS interface and into the timescale of charge transport and electron injection, as well as into the timescale of charge recombination at this interface. It is a unique feature of our method that the timescale of both these processes can be accessed in a single experiment and investigated for a specific interface.

  • The cancer genome atlas pan-cancer analysis project
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Nature Genetics. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1061-4036 .- 1546-1718. ; 45:10, s. 1113-1120
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) Research Network has profiled and analyzed large numbers of human tumors to discover molecular aberrations at the DNA, RNA, protein and epigenetic levels. The resulting rich data provide a major opportunity to develop an integrated picture of commonalities, differences and emergent themes across tumor lineages. The Pan-Cancer initiative compares the first 12 tumor types profiled by TCGA. Analysis of the molecular aberrations and their functional roles across tumor types will teach us how to extend therapies effective in one cancer type to others with a similar genomic profile. © 2013 Nature America, Inc.
