  • Increased water transport in PDMS silicone films by addition of excipients
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Acta Biomaterialia. - : Elsevier BV. - 1742-7061 .- 1878-7568. ; 8:2, s. 579-588
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The development of new adhesive wound care products intended for an application over a prolonged time requires good water transporting properties of the adhesive for the maintenance of a suitable environment around the wound. The ability of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS)-based silicone films to transport water has led to its use in skin pressure-sensitive adhesives and it would be advantageous to find ways for controlling or increasing water transport across PDMS films in order to be able to develop improved skin adhesives. In this study we present a way to increase water transport in such films by the addition of hydrophilic excipients. Three hydrophilic additives, highly water-soluble sucrose and the two superabsorbent polymers (SAP) Carbopol® and Pemulen™, were investigated. The effect of the excipients was characterized by water transport studies, swelling tests, scanning electron microscopy imaging and confocal microscopy. The cross-linked polymers, primarily Pemulen™, were efficient water transport enhancers, whereas sucrose did not show any effect. The effect of the additives seemed to correlate with their water binding capacity. For SAPs the formation of a percolating structure by swollen polymer was also suggested, which enhances water penetration by the higher volume fraction of areas with a higher diffusion constant (swollen SAP), leading to a faster transport through the entire film. © 2011 Acta Materialia Inc. • The co-creation of performance – salary talks as part of performance appraisal
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: not published.
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • During the last decades the Swedish wage formation has been transformed from being based on an idea of solidarity to an individual oriented system based on individual performance. The system relays on local solutions of general national agreements among the labour market parties. Thereby, employers need to set up system for how to evaluate individual performance. Such local systems are often based on a dialogue between the manager and the co-worker, and the dialogue can be supported by organizational tools such performance appraisal criteria. This paper is based on an interest in performance from a micro-perspective and, therefore, takes its starting point in the dialogue between the manager and the co-worker. The aim is to analyze how individual performance and the role of actors is created in salary talks between managers and co-workers as part of the merit salary increase process. A relational perspective on leadership and co-workership may help us understand how the persons involved in these local dialogues and the tools that are brought into this process can shape how performance is interpreted and defined in practice. Such interpretations may include what actions, competences, behavior and values that are seen as important with the organization, and thus, are part of a process of (e)valuation. In order to meet the aim, a study of three public organizations has been conducted. The field materials consist of interviews with HR, managers and co-workers, documents (criteria etc.) and a survey sent to employees in the three public organizations. The analysis shows the importance of understanding the interrelationship between managers, co-workers and tools when individual performance is discussed locally and how the dialogue between managers and co-workers not only reflects but also construct the understanding of performance that is valued locally.

  • Large scale identification of proteins, mucins, and their O-glycosylation in the endocervical mucus during the menstrual cycle.
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Molecular & cellular proteomics : MCP. - 1535-9476. ; 6:4, s. 708-16
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The mucus filling the human cervical opening blocks the entry to the uterus, but this has to be relative and allow for the sperm to penetrate at ovulation. We studied this mucus, its content of proteins and mucins, and the mucin O-glycosylation in cervical secretions before, during, and after ovulation. Cervical mucosal secretions from 12 subjects were collected, reduced-alkylated, separated with polyacrylamide or agarose/polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, and stained with silver, Alcian blue, or Coomassie Blue stain. Protein and mucin bands from before and during ovulation were digested and subsequently analyzed by nano-LC-FT-ICR MS and MS/MS. We identified 194 proteins after searches against the NCBI non-redundant protein database and an in-house mucin database. Three gel-forming (MUC5B, MUC5AC, and MUC6) and two transmembrane mucins (MUC16 and MUC1) were identified. For the analysis of mucin O-glycosylation, separated mucins from six individuals were blotted to PVDF membranes, and the O-glycans were released by reductive beta-elimination and analyzed with capillary HPLC-MS and -MS/MS. At least 50 neutral, sialic acid-, and sulfate-containing oligosaccharides were found. An increase of GlcNAc-6GalNAcol Core 2 structures and a relative decrease of NeuAc residues are typical for ovulation, and NeuAc-6GalNAcol and NeuAc-3Gal- epitopes are typical for the non-ovulatory phases. The cervical mucus at ovulation is thus characterized by a relative increase in neutral fucosylated oligosaccharides. This comprehensive characterization of the mucus during the menstrual cycle suggests mucin glycosylation as the major alteration at ovulation, but the relation to the altered physicochemical properties and sperm penetrability is still not understood.

  • Introduction to the symposium theme, aims and content
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Research Symposium: The development of ethnography in educational research in the Nordic countries: Thinkingforward and looking back.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Ethnographic approaches developed gradually during the 1980ies and 1990ies from several sources. The general emergence of a strong turn towards qualitative research had opened this opportunity  and the establishment of ethnography has been described in a text from the early 2000ies as stepwise, ending with a number of pre-conferences to NERA’s yearly congress, starting 1998 (Larsson, 2006). The symposium has been developed looking forward from this history to the future of ethnography of education in the Nordic region. It has been developed through cooperation across two networks: “Gender and Education” and “Justice through Education”.  Its focus is on ethnographic methodologies and their development in education research in the Nordic countries in recent decades, with a particular focus on matters of research for justice through education and education equality.

  • Research Symposium: The development of ethnography in educational research in the Nordic countries: Thinkingforward and looking back
  • 2020
  • Annan publikation (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this symposium we will attempt to paint an updated broad picture of ethnography in education research and its development, covering all Nordic countries, by looking initially at the general past growth of ethnography of education there, along with discussions of present developments and possible future ones too. This will also involve presentations that have been invited to think forward in relation to ethnography of education in the region, whilst also looking back at ethnographic practices in education and their social relations and material histories (Beach, Bagley and Marques da Silva). After this, research addressing respectively and conjointly Gender Equity and Justice in Education will be given particular attention.
