  • Evolution of particle size distribution and water content for oily particles in machining workshops
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Journal of Building Engineering. - : Elsevier BV. - 2352-7102. ; 84
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The oily particles produced by aerosolization of the Metalworking fluids (MWFs) pose a threat to human health. To quantify the transmission of oily particles for developing mitigation strategy, the possible particle volatilization, adhesion and coagulation during air transmission should be determined. Therefore, this study firstly by measured the particle size distributions at and away from the emission source in the laboratory. Then, to further verify the results obtained in the laboratory, the particle size distributions of oily particles in a machining workshop were measured. Meanwhile, to better understand the source characteristic of oily particles, this investigation measured the water content of the oily particles in the machining workshop because such a parameter could affect the removal performance of oily particles by filtration. The results revealed that the particle size distributions of oily particles at different locations were similar regardless of the laboratory measurement or on-site measurement. Thus, the evolution of particle size distribution of oily particles during air transmission could be ignored. Besides, the oily particles in the air had a water content of 22.6 % when the MWFs with a water content of 95 % was used during turning process. Although the oily particles in the air contained a certain amount of water, they were difficult to volatilize. The oily particles in the air might mainly consist of pure oily particles and water-in-oil particles. The results in this study could provide guidance for developing better control strategies of oily particles in machining workshops.

  • Advance in oral delivery of living material
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Biomedical Technology. - : Elsevier BV. - 2949-723X. ; 3, s. 26-39
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Nowadays, living therapeutics is a promising candidate among various therapies, and oral administration of living therapeutics characterized by universality and safety avail to make the transition from bench to bedside. However, precise delivery and continuous maintenance of cell viability and activity to acquire stable and ideal therapeutic efficacy remain challenging. Living material is the smart integration of the flexibly programmable functionality of biomaterial and the autonomous environmental responsiveness of living elements, heralding a new era of biotherapeutics in addressing human health concerns. Here, our review aims at presenting an overview of the status of the oral delivery of living material from a biological, technical, and practical perspective, describing the clinical significance and potential, the current technological development and dilemma, as well as the prospect.

  • Reasonable pressure tap layout to measure the aerodynamic forces of a train at different yaw angles
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Measurement: Journal of the International Measurement Confederation. - : Elsevier BV. - 0263-2241. ; 166
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The present work studies the aerodynamic loads of a train for different yaw angles from 5.87 degrees to 30 degrees by using the detached-eddy simulation (DES) method. Furthermore, based on the pressure integral method, a reasonable layout of the pressure taps on the train under a crosswind is studied to obtain the aerodynamic forces and moments that are used for a comparison with the results of the wind tunnel test. Considering the lower errors of the pressure integral results and fewer number of pressure taps comprehensively, the pressure integral method in the case of 15-4 (15 represents the tap quantity along the length direction, 4 represents the tap quantity along the height/width direction) on the head car and tail car, the case of 14-4 on the middle car are relatively good among the nine cases discussed in this paper. Compared to the results of the wind tunnel test, for the head car, the maximum error of the side force coefficient (C-y), rolling moment coefficient (M-x), and yawing moment coefficient (M-z) is all less than 10% for yaw angles from 5.87 degrees to 90 degrees, and the maximum errors of lift force coefficient (C-z) is less than 20% for yaw angles from 10.2 degrees to 90'; for the middle car, the maximum error of C-y is less than 20% for yaw angles from 5.87 degrees to 90 degrees, and the maximum error of C-z, M-x and M-z is all less than 15% for yaw angles from 5.87 degrees to 90'; for the tail car, the maximum error of C-y, C-z, M-x and M-z is all less than 15% for yaw angles from 10.2 degrees to 90 degrees. • Genome-wide association meta-analysis in Chinese and European individuals identifies ten new loci associated with systemic lupus erythematosus
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Nature Genetics. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1061-4036 .- 1546-1718. ; 48:8
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE; OMIM 152700) is a genetically complex autoimmune disease. Genome-wide association studies (GWASs) have identified more than 50 loci as robustly associated with the disease in single ancestries, but genome-wide transancestral studies have not been conducted. We combined three GWAS data sets from Chinese (1,659 cases and 3,398 controls) and European (4,036 cases and 6,959 controls) populations. A meta-analysis of these studies showed that over half of the published SLE genetic associations are present in both populations. A replication study in Chinese (3,043 cases and 5,074 controls) and European (2,643 cases and 9,032 controls) subjects found ten previously unreported SLE loci. Our study provides further evidence that the majority of genetic risk polymorphisms for SLE are contained within the same regions across both populations. Furthermore, a comparison of risk allele frequencies and genetic risk scores suggested that the increased prevalence of SLE in non-Europeans (including Asians) has a genetic basis.

  • Association of Metabolic Syndrome with Macular Thickness and Volume in Older Adults : A Population-Based Optical Coherence Tomography Study
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Metabolic Syndrome and Related Disorders. - 1540-4196 .- 1557-8518. ; 22:2, s. 141-150
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: To explore the associations of the metabolic syndrome (MetS) and individual components with macular thickness and volume among rural-dwelling Chinese older adults. Methods: This population-based cross-sectional study included 705 participants (age ≥60 years) derived from the MIND-China study. In 2018–2019, we collected data through face-to-face interview, clinical examination, optical coherence tomography (OCT) examination, and blood test. We measured macular thickness and volume using spectral-domain OCT. MetS was defined following the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) criteria, the IDF/American Heart Association (AHA) criteria, the National Cholesterol Education Program-Adult Treatment Panel III criteria, and the Chinese Diabetes Society (CDS) criteria. Data were analyzed with multivariable general linear models. Results: MetS was significantly associated with thinner macula in central (multivariable-adjusted β = −5.29; 95% confidence interval: −9.31 to −1.26), parafoveal (−2.85; −5.73 to 0.04) and perifoveal regions (−4.37; −6.79 to −1.95) when using the IDF criteria, in the perifoveal regions (−3.82; −6.18 to −1.47) when using the IDF/AHA criteria, and in the central region (−5.63; −10.25 to −1.02) when using the CDS criteria, and with reduced macular volume when using the IDF (−0.16; −0.26 to −0.07) and IDF/AHA (−0.13; −0.22 to −0.04) criteria. In the parafoveal region, the IDF-defined MetS was significantly associated with thinner retina in men (β = −6.25; −10.94 to −1.56) but not in women. Abdominal obesity (−2.83; −5.41 to −0.25) and elevated fasting blood glucose (−2.65; −5.08 to −0.21) were associated with thinner macular thickness in the perifoveal region. Conclusion: MetS is associated with macular thinning and reduced macular volume among rural-dwelling older adults, and the associations vary by the defining criteria of MetS.
