  • High prevalence of neurodevelopmental problems in adolescents eligible for bariatric surgery for severe obesity
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Acta Paediatrica, International Journal of Paediatrics. - : Wiley. - 0803-5253 .- 1651-2227. ; 110:5, s. 1534-1540
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Aim: To assess the prevalence of neurodevelopmental problems in adolescents with severe obesity and their associations with binge eating and depression. Methods: Data were collected at inclusion in a randomised study of bariatric surgery in 48 adolescents (73% girls; mean age 15.7 ± 1.0 years; mean body mass index 42.6 ± 5.2 kg/m2). Parents completed questionnaires assessing their adolescents’ symptoms of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder and autism spectrum disorder and reported earlier diagnoses. Patients answered self-report questionnaires on binge eating and depressive symptoms. Results: The parents of 26/48 adolescents (54%) reported scores above cut-off for symptoms of the targeted disorders in their adolescents, but only 15% reported a diagnosis, 32% of adolescents reported binge eating, and 20% reported symptoms of clinical depression. No significant associations were found between neurodevelopmental problems and binge eating or depressive symptoms. Only a third of the adolescents reported no problems in either area. Conclusion: Two thirds of adolescents seeking surgical weight loss presented with substantial mental health problems (reported by themselves or their parents). This illustrates the importance of a multi-professional approach and the need to screen for and treat mental health disorders in adolescents with obesity.

  • Mobility patterns in inland southwestern Sweden during the Neolithic and Early Bronze Age
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Archaeological and Anthropological Sciences. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1866-9557 .- 1866-9565. ; 13
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper, we investigate population dynamics in the Scandinavian Neolithic and Early Bronze Age in southwestern Sweden. Human mobility patterns in Falbygden were studied by applying strontium isotope analysis combined with archaeological and bioarchaeological data, including mtDNA and sex assessment on a large dataset encompassing 141 individuals from 21 megalithic graves. In combination with other archaeological and anthropological records, we investigated the temporal and spatial scale of individual movement, mobility patterns of specific categories of people and possible social drivers behind them. Our results of strontium and biomolecular analyses suggest that mobility increased in the Late Neolithic and Early Bronze Age compared to the earlier parts of the Neolithic. The data indicate individuals moving both into and away from Falbygden. Mobility patterns and contact networks also shift over time.

  • Influence of molybdenum alloying on thermomechanical fatigue life of compacted graphite irons
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Cast Metals Research. - : Maney Publishing. - 1364-0461 .- 1743-1336. ; 25:5, s. 277-286
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this study four compacted graphite irons (CGIs) and one grey cast iron (FGI) were produced and tested in the laboratory. The molybdenum content of the four CGI grades was varied between 0 and 1·01 wt-%. The purpose of the investigations was to examine the effect of the different molybdenum contents of the CGI on the thermomechanical fatigue (TMF) behaviour. The TMF tests were performed by cycling a constrained specimen between 110 and 600°C. For every material three tests were performed on specimens machined from a Ø20 mm cylinder. Other tests were performed on specimens machined from Ø55 mm and Ø85 mm cylinders respectively. The tests showed that additions of molybdenum improved the fatigue resistance of CGI. It was observed that additions of molybdenum refined the pearlite and that the specimens with a finer metallic matrix had a higher TMF resistance.

  • Stress relaxation of compacted graphite iron alloyed with molybdenum
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Cast Metals Research. - : Taylor & Francis. - 1364-0461 .- 1743-1336. ; 26:1, s. 51-57
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In a previous study, the thermomechanical fatigue resistance of four compacted graphite irons (CGIs) and one grey cast iron was investigated. The molybdenum content of the four CGIs varied between 0 and 1.01 wt-%. It was observed that during thermal cycling, the maximum value of the compressive stress continuously decreased while the value of the maximum tensile stress continuously increased. The continuous decrease in compressive stresses showed that stress relaxation occurs at elevated temperatures during thermal cycling. The goal of the present investigation was to investigate the phenomenon of stress relaxation at elevated temperatures. The tests were performed at 350 and 600uC respectively. The results of the stress relaxation tests performed at 600uC showed the same trend observed at thermomechanical fatigue testing. The tests showed that additions of molybdenum improved the fatigue resistance of CGI by lowering the stress relaxation rate.

  • Mechanical and structural characterization of cast iron using synchrotron light
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: 73rd World Foundry Congress "Creative Foundry", WFC 2018 - Proceedings. - 9788390430638 ; , s. 129-130
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The paper describes work done using synchrotron light to investigate the microstructure and how it behaves in 3D when a load is applied. Two different cast iron materials with different matrix structures and graphite morphologies were investigated; SiMo51, which is basically a spheroidal iron (SGI) alloyed with Si and Mo, and a lamellar graphite iron (LGI). The tensile test specimens were loaded in steps, at which x-ray tomography as well as 3DXRD measurements were made to characterize the microstructure. The result shows how the crack propagates and which path it takes through the materials. DVC was applied to analyze the strain fields. This work also shows how useful synchrotron experiments can be in the study of the mechanical behavior of cast iron.

  • A randomized controlled trial comparing intensive non-surgical treatment with bariatric surgery in adolescents aged 13–16 years (AMOS2): Rationale, study design, and patient recruitment
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Contemporary Clinical Trials Communications. - : Elsevier BV. - 2451-8654. ; 19
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: Previous non-randomized studies show similar outcomes in adolescents and adults after bariatric surgery. We describe the study protocol, recruitment, and selected baseline data of patients in a randomized multi-center study, the Adolescent Morbid Obesity Surgery 2 (AMOS2). Methods: Three clinics in Sweden collaborated in designing the study and recruitment of patients from August 1, 2014 to June 30, 2017. Patients were selected among adolescents 13–16 years of age attending third-level obesity care for at least one year. Patients were randomized 1:1 to bariatric surgery (predominantly Roux-en-Y gastric bypass) or intensive non-surgical treatment starting with an eight-week low-calorie-diet. Results: Fifty adolescents (37 girls) were randomized, 25 (19 girls) to bariatric surgery. Mean age was 15.7 years (range 13.3–16.9), weight 122.6 kg (range 95–183.3), Body Mass Index (BMI) 42.6 kg/m2 (range 35.7–54.9) and BMI-SDS 3.45 (range 2.9–4.1). One patient had type 2 diabetes mellitus, and 12/45 (27%) had elevated liver enzymes. There were no significant differences between the groups. For the 39 eligible patients who were offered but declined inclusion, BMI was not different from included patients. However, patients who declined were younger, 15.2 years (p = 0.021). A sex difference was also noted with more of eligible girls, 37/53 (69.8%), than boys, 13/36 (36.1%), wanting to participate in the study (p = 0.002). Conclusions: This clinical trial, randomizing adolescents with severe obesity to bariatric surgery or intensive non-surgical treatment, aims at informing about whether it is beneficial to undergo bariatric surgery in early adolescence. It will also enlighten the outcome of comprehensive non-surgical treatment. The study was registered at www.clinicalTrials.gov number NCT02378259. © 2020
