  • Family still matters : Human social motivation across 42 countries during a global pandemic
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Evolution and human behavior. - : Elsevier BV. - 1090-5138 .- 1879-0607. ; 43:6, s. 527-535
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The COVID-19 pandemic caused drastic social changes for many people, including separation from friends and coworkers, enforced close contact with family, and reductions in mobility. Here we assess the extent to which people's evolutionarily-relevant basic motivations and goals—fundamental social motives such as Affiliation and Kin Care—might have been affected. To address this question, we gathered data on fundamental social motives in 42 countries (N = 15,915) across two waves, including 19 countries (N = 10,907) for which data were gathered both before and during the pandemic (pre-pandemic wave: 32 countries, N = 8998; 3302 male, 5585 female; Mage = 24.43, SD = 7.91; mid-pandemic wave: 29 countries, N = 6917; 2249 male, 4218 female; Mage = 28.59, SD = 11.31). Samples include data collected online (e.g., Prolific, MTurk), at universities, and via community sampling. We found that Disease Avoidance motivation was substantially higher during the pandemic, and that most of the other fundamental social motives showed small, yet significant, differences across waves. Most sensibly, concern with caring for one's children was higher during the pandemic, and concerns with Mate Seeking and Status were lower. Earlier findings showing the prioritization of family motives over mating motives (and even over Disease Avoidance motives) were replicated during the pandemic. Finally, well-being remained positively associated with family-related motives and negatively associated with mating motives during the pandemic, as in the pre-pandemic samples. Our results provide further evidence for the robust primacy of family-related motivations even during this unique disruption of social life.

  • Photoemission studies of the annealing-induced modifications of Ga0.95Mn0.05As
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Physical Review B (Condensed Matter and Materials Physics). - 1098-0121. ; 70:12: 125204
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Using angle resolved photoemission we have investigated annealing-induced changes in Ga1-xMnxAs with x=0.05. We find that the position of the Fermi energy is a function of annealing time and temperature. It is also established that the Curie temperature is strongly correlated to the separation between the Fermi level and the valence band maximum. Valence band photoemission shows that the Mn3d spectrum is modified by the annealing treatments.

  • Postgrowth annealing of (Ga,Mn) As under As capping: An alternative way to increase T-C
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Applied Physics Letters. - : AIP Publishing. - 0003-6951 .- 1077-3118. ; 86, s. 112501-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In situ postgrowth annealing of (Ga,Mn)As layers under As capping is adequate for achieving high Curie temperatures (T-C) in a similar way as ex situ annealing in air or in N-2 atmosphere practiced earlier. Thus, the first efforts give an increase of T-C from 68 to 145 K after 2 h annealing at 180 degrees C. These data, in combination with lattice parameter determinations and photoemission results, show that the As capping acts as an efficient sink for diffusing Mn interstitials.

  • ToF-SIMS depth profiling of (Ga,Mn)As capped with amorphous arsenic : effects of annealing time
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Applied Surface Science. - : Elsevier BV. - 0169-4332 .- 1873-5584. ; 252:19, s. 7252-7254
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The influence of annealing time on an amorphous As cap layer and the depth distribution of Mn atoms have been investigated. The results show that a 1600 Å thick As cap layer is completely desorbed after 3 h of annealing time. The depth distributions of Mn indicate that interstitial Mn atoms have diffused to the outer surface and being passivated. The thickness of the Mn passivation layer was around 90 Å.

  • Magnetic properties of GaMnAs single layers and GaInMnAs superlattices investigated at low temperature and high magnetic field
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Acta Physica Polonica. Series A: General Physics, Physics of Condensed Matter, Optics and Quantum Electronics, Atomic and Molecular Physics, Applied Physics. - 0587-4246. ; 103:6, s. 613-619
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Magnetotransport properties of GaMnAs single layers and InGaMnAs/ InGaAs superlattice structures were investigated at temperatures from 4 K to 300 K and magnetic fields up to 23 T to study the influence of carriers confinement through different structures. Both single layers and superlattice structures show paramagnetic-to-ferromagnetic phase transition. In GaMnAs/InGaAs superlattice beside the Curie temperature (T-c approximate to 40 K), a new phase transition is observed close to 13 K.
