- Forskningsprojektet Digitala och sociala mediers betydelse för kommunikation i samband med samhälleliga kriser (SOMCRISC) tar avstamp i den genomgripande digitalisering som skett i samhället under senare decennier. Fokus i projektet ligger på hur digital teknik öppnat för nya möjligheter och utmanat de förhållningssätt och praktiker som präglat kriskommunikation i samband med samhälleliga kriser. I de två rapporter som producerats tar projektet sikte på år 2032, de behov som framtida krishantering kan komma att ställas inför och de möjligheter och förutsättningar som den digitala tekniken kan tänkas tillhandahålla. Rapport 1, Kriskommunikation 2032 – Tolv trender i ett digitalt samhälle, redogör för ett antal trender kring digital teknik och tillämpning av digitala tjänster, som kan förväntas få stor betydelse för det svenska krishanteringssystemet. Utgångspunkten har varit att identifiera, analysera och redogöra för viktiga trender i gränssnittet mellan digitalisering å ena sidan, och medier, myndigheter och teknisk infrastruktur å andra sidan. Rapport 2, Kriskommunikation 2032 – Fyra samhällsscenarier för strategisk planering, är tänkt att fungera som ett metodstöd för proaktiv reflektion kring och analys av kriser i ett framtida digitalt samhälle. Baserat på tidigare forskning och domänexpertis presenterar rapporten fyra digitala framtidsscenarier, konstruerade kring dimensionerna medborgardeltagande och offentlig styrning.

We look at the ways that contributors of this special issue have shown how materialities, institutions, practices, politics, economics, and culture shape the field of fighting fakes.

- This article explores how platforms, news publishers, and fact-checkers describe the tradeoffs they make in partnerships to counter misinformation. Using 54 interviews with these actors active in the global fact-checking field, it shows that resources and news values constitute key aspects of these partnerships. They contribute to knowledge shaping of what it means to fight misinformation (e.g., focusing on debunking, resource-allocation inequalities), and what types of misinformation matter for the public. This study highlights two kinds of problems in the growing anti-misinformation field, namely, coordination (technical, as to how to integrate different efforts by multiple actors) and cooperation (different organizations have different goals).

- This essay considers how social actors in news have come to shape the contours of news and journalism and what these changes may suggest for other industries. It looks more specifically at the question of who does journalism and news and what that may signal for power dependencies, status, and norms formation. It examines how authors who contributed to this thematic issue define who gets to decide what is news and journalism, what forms of power are exerted amongst groups, who gets to claim status, and how norms and epistemologies are formed. Ultimately, this essay illustrates how conformity to groups and organizations varies with the investments that these social actors have to core and more peripheral journalism and media groups.

- It is often argued that young people are among the first to adopt new mediatechnologies, and that they are especially keen on taking on all new featuresconnected with mobile technology and the Internet. In spite of this oft-repeatedclaim, one could suspect that since computers and mobile phones have become sowidespread among large portions of the populations in the industrialised world, itmight not be technology, per se, that distinguishes the young from the old, butrather the actual ways in which it is used. One approach to discuss this is in termsof media generations. It could be expected that generations that have grown upwith different mediated experiences during their formative years will relate to themobile technology in a variety of ways (cf. Mannheim, 1952 & Volkmer, 2006). Inthis article, three such generations are analysed: the radio/print generation (born inthe 1930s), the TV generation (born in the 1950s), and the mobile technologygeneration (born in the 1980s). Access and usage patterns are researched, and thedegree to which the three generations differ when it comes to their relations tomobile technology is discussed, but also the unifying character of the mobiletelephony usage. Our methodological approach is quantitative, analysing resultsfrom annually conducted postal surveys that are representative for the Swedishpopulation.

- The multimedia features brought by the rise of the mobile access to internet are tightly linked to the massive access of the public to mobile search. To date, there is limited knowledge on how distinct groups make use of mobile search in their everyday life. Attempting to fill that void, the purpose of this chapter is to describe and explain how mobile search behaviours have gained traction among distinct groups in Sweden from 2010 to 2012. The findings evidence a growing uptake among all groups over time. Smartphone ownership and age score the highest odds ratios, revealing smartphone users and 16-29 year olds as most inclined to use mobile search. In addition, a high education and use of a personal or company subscription show significant results. © 2016, IGI Global. All rights reserved.

- With respect to the increasing platformisation of news, platform companies are gaining an increasing influence over the practices of news publishers. This ongoing study adopts a practice-theoretical approach to longitudinally examine how a Singapore-based legacy news publisher innovates its news practices in relation to platforms. Based on a mixed-method qualitative approach that includes in-depths interviews with newsroom staff and newsroom observation conducted between 2015 and 2021, this study analyses how the publisher innovated its news practices in relation to platforms. Preliminary findings suggest that over time, the publisher added, removed and modified specific editorial practices at each of the six stages of news production (Domingo et al, 2008; Lewis & Westlund, 2015). Furthermore, this study finds that the publisher moderated its commitment to innovating specific practices by: (a) using platforms to extend its online presence and/or (b) minimising its dependence on platforms by platform counterbalancing.
