  • 15 nedslag i klimatforskningen : dåtid, nutid, framtid
  • 2013

  • 1800-talets mediesystem
  • 2010

  • 2003
  • Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • In 2002 a group of men and women, coming from different professions but sharing an interest in social issues, joined together in a Citizens' Study (medborgarundersökning) in the Swedish city of Malmö. They were inspired by a classic Swedish citizens' study "Men of 1912" (1912 års män) which was a clandestine field study of the deplorable conditions in Stockholm's hostels in 1912. This book is a compilation of the various reports written by the men and women of 2002. Over a period of several months they visited different places in Malmö where homeless people live and spend their lives. The reports provide us with different images of homelessness, from tent camps, hideouts in public parks, cheap hotels and shelters to overpopulated apartment buildings in the suburbs. It accounts for the City Council's expensive policy of solving the problems through putting up homeless in hotel rooms on a long-term basis. Striking in the reports is the frustration of the men and women of 2002 when they are confronted with access problems to shelters, and with the demeaning and contemptuous treatment of homeless people. As a method for social research the citizen's study does not have the theoretical and methodological consistency of the scientific study. However, it oversteps social borders and promotes social integration in a way that scientific studies were never able to do. The men and women of 2002 were drawn into the process, and formed private social relationships with homeless people and their places. Apart from the reports of the men and women of 2002, the book also includes a re-print of the edited version of the report of the men of 1912 published in Social Tidskrift 1913.

  • Transverse energy production and charged-particle multiplicity at midrapidity in various systems from sNN =7.7 to 200 GeV
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C. - 2469-9985. ; 93:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Measurements of midrapidity charged-particle multiplicity distributions, dNch/dη, and midrapidity transverse-energy distributions, dET/dη, are presented for a variety of collision systems and energies. Included are distributions for Au+Au collisions at sNN=200, 130, 62.4, 39, 27, 19.6, 14.5, and 7.7 GeV, Cu+Cu collisions at sNN=200 and 62.4 GeV, Cu+Au collisions at sNN=200 GeV, U+U collisions at sNN=193 GeV, d+Au collisions at sNN=200 GeV, He3+Au collisions at sNN=200 GeV, and p+p collisions at sNN=200 GeV. Centrality-dependent distributions at midrapidity are presented in terms of the number of nucleon participants, Npart, and the number of constituent quark participants, Nqp. For all A+A collisions down to sNN=7.7 GeV, it is observed that the midrapidity data are better described by scaling with Nqp than scaling with Npart. Also presented are estimates of the Bjorken energy density, BJ, and the ratio of dET/dη to dNch/dη, the latter of which is seen to be constant as a function of centrality for all systems.

  • Spatially resolved structural and chemical properties of the white layer in machined Inconel 718 super alloy
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Materials and Design. - 0264-1275. ; 239
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Inconel 718 is one type of nickel-based alloy used for a large range of applications, including gas turbines and aeroengines components. Although mechanical and thermodynamic properties of this material have been deeply studied in the past years, a method able to investigate local properties of the thin white layer formed on the alloy surface after machining remains challenging. Here, a 90 nm X-ray beam is used to probe the local strain, crystal orientation, and chemical composition of grains in the white layer. Data reveals mosaicity induced by the tool during machining. The high spatial resolution, combined with crystal lattice sensitivity, shows that the average grain size is around 30 nm throughout the white layer, while the strain is anisotropic nearest to the surface. Results provide new insights on the basic properties of the white layer in super alloys, revealing important information about the impact of finish machining which might help to explain fatigue and cracking formation on these materials during their usage phase.

  • The role of pain and walking difficulties in shaping willingness to undergo joint surgery for osteoarthritis: Data from the Swedish BOA register
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Osteoarthritis and Cartilage Open. - : Elsevier BV. - 2665-9131. ; 3:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objectives: To investigate whether the association between pain intensity and willingness to undergo surgery is explained by walking difficulties, in patients with knee or hip osteoarthritis (OA). Methods: This is an observational study using data from the Better management of patients with Osteoarthritis (BOA) register, which collects data from a publicly financed self-management programme for people with OA in Sweden. We included all patients with knee or hip OA who attended the baseline visit between 2008 and 2016. We conducted separate mediation analyses within a counterfactual framework to estimate the mediation effect of walking difficulties (yes/no) on willingness to undergo surgery (yes/no) for each one-point increase in pain (0–10 on a numeric rating scale), adjusted for relevant confounders. Results: We included 72,131 patients (69% women, mean age 66, mean pain 5.4, 81% had walking difficulties, 27% was willing to undergo surgery). A one-point increase in pain intensity was associated with 1.53 (95% CI: 1.51; 1.55) higher odds of being willing to undergo surgery. Walking difficulties mediated 10%–25% of the effect of one-point increase in pain when pain was <8/10, while at pain ≥8/10 this percentage decreased to 3%. Conclusions: More than 80% of the BOA patients have mild to moderate pain (<8/10) and walking difficulties can mediate up to a quarter of the total effect of pain on the willingness to undergo surgery in these patients. Trials to evaluate the potential to lower surgery demand by reducing walking difficulties in people with these characteristics are needed.

  • Physical inactivity increases the risk of endometrial cancer and premenopausal breast cancer
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Cancer Research. - 0008-5472. ; 75:15 Suppl
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background. Epidemiological studies indicate that physical activity reduces the risk of cancer. Physical inactivity or sedentary behavior, has recently been suggested as a risk factor independent of physical activity level. Breast and endometrial cancer incidence have both been associated with physical activity, and endometrial cancer incidence with physical inactivity/sedentary behavior. The purpose of the present study was to investigate physical inactivity as a risk factor for breast cancer, divided into pre- and postmenopausal subtypes, and for endometrial cancer, and to explore possible dose-response relations regarding the level of physical inactivity. Methods. In a population-based prospective cohort study, 29 520 women in the southern part of Sweden, in ages between 25 and 64 years, participated. A questionnaire-based survey was performed 1990-92. Their reported professions were classified as sedentary or not which together with reported participation in competitive sports constituted the basis for classification into three activity-levels; (1) physical inactivity, defined as having sedentary occupation and no participation in competitive sports, (2) partly inactive, defined as either having a sedentary occupation or non- participation in competitive sports, (3) Physical active, defined as not having a sedentary occupation and participation in competitive sports. The association between physical inactivity and pre and postmenopausal breast and endometrial cancer incidence were analyzed by Cox regression, adjusted for hormonal factors, family history of cancer, body mass index (BMI) and age. Results. Physical inactive women had a significantly increased risk of endometrial cancer (HR = 2.41, 95% CI 1.14-5.11) and premenopausal breast cancer (HR = 2.40, 95% CI 1.14-5.02), compared with women who were less physical inactive. No such association was found for postmenopausal breast cancer. Analysis of linear trend showed a significant dose-response relationship with increased risk of both premenopausal breast cancer (ptrend 0.02) and endometrial cancer (ptrend

  • A Smorgasbord of Cognitive Science
  • 2008
  • Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This book is intended as an introduction to the breadth of current research in cognitive science, with the research at Lund University Cognitive Science as our sample. The result is a smorgasbord for readers with some background in the neighbouring disciplines. Through the chapters we will follow some of the important cross-disciplinary issues in cognitive science. One is how the external world is represented, from cognitive maps in rats, to drawings made to enhance communication, or the organization of semantic knowledge. Another is to what extent such representations really are used: the world is often its own best model in areas from robotics to choice, and several chapters illustrate that even communication (despite its dependence on representations) is firmly situated in and constrained by its surroundings. In addition, many chapters emphasize the essentially dynamic relationship between mind and environment, in areas from development to interaction and learning. A third thread is how research concerning other animals= cognitive capacities, from pigeons to chimpanzees, has inspired research on human cognition, and how this comparative approach can be made to incorporate also non-animate fellow beings, such as robots and virtual characters. In sum, the book contains most of the areas we think are important in cognitive science today, and we hope that it will be of use for beginning researchers and advanced students in the area. Its production is part of the celebrations of Lund University Cognitive Science’s 20th anniversary. Our group hosts researchers with backgrounds in psychology, philosophy, computer science, linguistics, computational neuroscience, education, etc., and all of us have a multidisciplinary education. • A Swedish Philhellenic Pamphlet from 1821 : "Will you let that sacred voice that echoes in the tender Swedish heart cry out in vain?”
  • 2022. - 2022
  • Annan publikation (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The first volume of Grifos is a publication of a rare, anonymously published philhellenic pamphlet from the year 1821. It was printed in Stockholm, yet it has hitherto remained uncollected by the scholarly community. The pamphlet is published here for the first time with an English translation and a commentary by George Kalpadakis and Vassilios Sabatakakis. In their introduction the authors place the pamphlet in its historical context and discuss its core themes. The original 1821 text, whose images are reproduced in the final section, has been transcribed and translated by both authors. This rather provocative philhellenic text echoes a few central themes of philhellenism that by the time of its publication had already become part of later frequently repeated rhetoric in philhellenic discourses. Probably in the challenging political climate in Sweden vis-à-vis the Greek war of independence, complex attitudes and ideologies, both for and against the struggle during its early phase, are reflected in the text.

  • 2008
  • Ingår i: World Journal of Gastroenterology. - : Baishideng Publishing Group Inc.. - 1007-9327. ; 14:45, s. 6954-6959
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • AIM: To infect mice with atypical Campylobacter concisus (C concisus) for the first time. METHODS: Three separate experiments were conducted in order to screen the ability of five clinical C concisus isolates of intestinal origin and the ATCC 33237 type strain of oral origin to colonize and produce infection in immunocompetent BALB/cA mice. The majority of the BALB/cA mice were treated with cyclophosphamide prior to C concisus inoculation to suppress immune functions. Inoculation of C concisus was performed by the gastric route. RESULTS: C concisus was isolated from the liver, ileum and jejunum of cyclophosphamide-treated mice in the first experiment. No C concisus strains were isolated in the two subsequent experiments. Mice infected with C concisus showed a significant loss of body weight from day two through to day five of infection but this decreased at the end of the first week. Histopathologicalexamination did not consistently find signs of inflammation in the gut, but occasionally microabscesses were found in the liver of infected animals. CONCLUSION: Transient colonization with C concisus was observed in mice with loss of body weight. Future studies should concentrate on the first few days after inoculation and in other strains of mice. (C) 2008 The WJG Press. All rights reserved.

    • A total of 44 clinical isolates and the type strain of the putative pathogen Campylobacter concisus were grouped based on their reactions with plant lectins. The optimized lectin typing system used C. concisus strains proteolytically pretreated and subsequently typed by using a panel of four lectins. The system grouped all 45 strains into 13 lectin reaction patterns, leaving no strain untypeable due to autoagglutination. Lectin types were both stable and reproducible.

  • Long-run evolution of income inequality in the Nordic countries
  • Ingår i: Scandinavian Economic History Review. - 0358-5522.
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper surveys Nordic historic studies on the distribution of income to highlight similarities and differences between Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden in the evolution of income concentration and income inequality over more than 140 years. Our descriptive analysis allows for a decomposition where we identify the contribution of the income share of the richest 1 per cent and the distribution of income among the other 99 per cent to overall inequality as measured by the Gini coefficient. The results show that the evolution of income concentration and inequality can be characterised by episodes rather than by secular cycles, which means that the evolution can neither be summarised by Kuznets’ inverse U nor by a U. The evidence on the role played by the share of the top 1 per cent for overall income inequality shows to be mixed and to vary across time and countries.

  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Industrial Marketing Management. - : Elsevier BV. - 0019-8501 .- 1873-2062. ; 59, s. 157-166
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper identifies different university spin-off (USO) roles related to resource interaction among business parties. It does so by mapping how USOs become part of business networks in terms of their roles relative to other parties. The theoretical frame of reference focuses on roles and resource interaction based on an industrial network approach to business markets. The empirical research is based on five cases of USOs representing a variety in terms of technology, degree of newness, sector, and area of application. As a result of the analysis, three different roles are identified: the USO as resource mediator, resource re-combiner and resource renewer. These roles reflect how USOs adapt resources to, or require changes among, business parties' resources. The paper also discusses the main resource interfaces associated with the three roles and related challenges. The paper contributes to previous research through illustrating USOs' roles relative to business parties from a resource interaction point of view, and by pointing to the establishment of new companies in business networks as a way of implementing innovation. Finally, the paper discusses the managerial implications of the research in terms of the USO's need to understand which role to take and how to develop it.

  • 2011
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Technology Transfer and Commercialisation. - : Inderscience. - 1470-6075 .- 1741-5284. ; 10 3-4, s. 354-374
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper, we argue that incubators facilitate access to external financing for their incubatees. Incubators use a wide range of activities to facilitate the accessing of external financing from public and private sources. We have grouped these into two sets of activities. The general activities aim to develop the conditions for external financing through information, education of incubatees, network-building and lobbying activities. The specific activities aim to assist the individual incubatee in their pursuit of external finance through help in application procedures, establishing need for capital, making contacts with the best public or private investor, etc. Based on the survey data, we have also shown that it is more common for incubatees to attract external capital compared to non-incubator firms. The incubatees seem especially successful in attracting public capital. The incubatees also attract more private external capital, however, the observed frequency of private capital in the incubatees are low.

  • 2016
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal C. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1434-6044 .- 1434-6052. ; 76:9
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Measurements of distributions of charged particles produced in proton–proton collisions with a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV are presented. The data were recorded by the ATLAS detector at the LHC and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 151 μ b - 1. The particles are required to have a transverse momentum greater than 100 MeV and an absolute pseudorapidity less than 2.5. The charged-particle multiplicity, its dependence on transverse momentum and pseudorapidity and the dependence of the mean transverse momentum on multiplicity are measured in events containing at least two charged particles satisfying the above kinematic criteria. The results are corrected for detector effects and compared to the predictions from several Monte Carlo event generators. © 2016, CERN for the benefit of the ATLAS collaboration.

  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Journal of High Energy Physics. - 1029-8479. ; 2018:4
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper presents combinations of inclusive and differential measurements of the charge asymmetry (AC) in top quark pair (tt) events with a lepton+jets signature by the ATLAS and CMS Collaborations, using data from LHC proton-proton collisions at centreof- mass energies of 7 and 8TeV. The data correspond to integrated luminosities of about 5 and 20 fb–1for each experiment, respectively. The resulting combined LHC measurements of the inclusive charge asymmetry are AC LHC7= 0:005±0:007 (stat) ±0:006 (syst) at 7TeV and AC LHC7= 0:0055 ± 0:0023 (stat) ± 0:0025 (syst) at 8TeV. These values, as well as the combination of AC measurements as a function of the invariant mass of the [formula presented] system at 8TeV, are consistent with the respective standard model predictions. © CERN, for the benefit of the ATLAS-CMS Collaboration.

  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Journal of High Energy Physics. - 1029-8479. ; 2019:5
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper presents the combinations of single-top-quark production cross-section measurements by the ATLAS and CMS Collaborations, using data from LHC proton-proton collisions at s = 7 and 8 TeV corresponding to integrated luminosities of 1.17 to 5.1 fb−1 at s = 7 TeV and 12.2 to 20.3 fb−1 at s = 8 TeV. These combinations are performed per centre-of-mass energy and for each production mode: t-channel, tW, and s-channel. The combined t-channel cross-sections are 67.5 ± 5.7 pb and 87.7 ± 5.8 pb at s = 7 and 8 TeV respectively. The combined tW cross-sections are 16.3 ± 4.1 pb and 23.1 ± 3.6 pb at s = 7 and 8 TeV respectively. For the s-channel cross-section, the combination yields 4.9 ± 1.4 pb at s = 8 TeV. The square of the magnitude of the CKM matrix element Vtb multiplied by a form factor fLV is determined for each production mode and centre-of-mass energy, using the ratio of the measured cross-section to its theoretical prediction. It is assumed that the top-quark-related CKM matrix elements obey the relation |Vtd|, |Vts| ≪ |Vtb|. All the |fLVVtb|2 determinations, extracted from individual ratios at s = 7 and 8 TeV, are combined, resulting in |fLVVtb| = 1.02 ± 0.04 (meas.) ± 0.02 (theo.). All combined measurements are consistent with their corresponding Standard Model predictions.[Figure not available: see fulltext.]. © 2019, The Author(s).

  • Combined measurement of differential and total cross sections in the H → γγ and the H → ZZ⁎ → 4ℓ decay channels at s=13 TeV with the ATLAS detector
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Physics Letters, Section B: Nuclear, Elementary Particle and High-Energy Physics. - : Elsevier BV. - 0370-2693 .- 1873-2445. ; 786, s. 114-133
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A combined measurement of differential and inclusive total cross sections of Higgs boson production is performed using 36.1 fb−1 of 13 TeV proton–proton collision data produced by the LHC and recorded by the ATLAS detector in 2015 and 2016. Cross sections are obtained from measured H→γγ and H→ZZ⁎→4ℓ event yields, which are combined taking into account detector efficiencies, resolution, acceptances and branching fractions. The total Higgs boson production cross section is measured to be 57.0−5.9 +6.0 (stat.) −3.3 +4.0 (syst.) pb, in agreement with the Standard Model prediction. Differential cross-section measurements are presented for the Higgs boson transverse momentum distribution, Higgs boson rapidity, number of jets produced together with the Higgs boson, and the transverse momentum of the leading jet. The results from the two decay channels are found to be compatible, and their combination agrees with the Standard Model predictions. © 2018 The Author(s)

  • Constraints on mediator-based dark matter and scalar dark energy models using √s = 13 TeV pp collision data collected by the ATLAS detector
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Journal of High Energy Physics. - 1029-8479. ; 2019:5
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Constraints on selected mediator-based dark matter models and a scalar dark energy model using up to 37 fb−1s = 13 TeV pp collision data collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC during 2015-2016 are summarised in this paper. The results of experimental searches in a variety of final states are interpreted in terms of a set of spin-1 and spin-0 single-mediator dark matter simplified models and a second set of models involving an extended Higgs sector plus an additional vector or pseudo-scalar mediator. The searches considered in this paper constrain spin-1 leptophobic and leptophilic mediators, spin-0 colour-neutral and colour-charged mediators and vector or pseudo-scalar mediators embedded in extended Higgs sector models. In this case, also s = 8 TeV pp collision data are used for the interpretation of the results. The results are also interpreted for the first time in terms of light scalar particles that could contribute to the accelerating expansion of the universe (dark energy).[Figure not available: see fulltext.]. © 2019, The Author(s).

  • Determination of the strong coupling constant αs from transverse energy–energy correlations in multijet events at √s=8TeV using the ATLAS detector
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal C. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1434-6044 .- 1434-6052. ; 77:12
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Measurements of transverse energy–energy correlations and their associated asymmetries in multi-jet events using the ATLAS detector at the LHC are presented. The data used correspond to s=8TeV proton–proton collisions with an integrated luminosity of 20.2fb-1. The results are presented in bins of the scalar sum of the transverse momenta of the two leading jets, unfolded to the particle level and compared to the predictions from Monte Carlo simulations. A comparison with next-to-leading-order perturbative QCD is also performed, showing excellent agreement within the uncertainties. From this comparison, the value of the strong coupling constant is extracted for different energy regimes, thus testing the running of αs(μ) predicted in QCD up to scales over 1TeV. A global fit to the transverse energy–energy correlation distributions yields αs(mZ)=0.1162±0.0011(exp.)-0.0070+0.0084(theo.), while a global fit to the asymmetry distributions yields a value of αs(mZ)=0.1196±0.0013(exp.)-0.0045+0.0075(theo.). © 2017, CERN for the benefit of the ATLAS collaboration.
