  • Oxygen storage material production useful in exhaust gas cleaning catalyst, involves mixing aqueous solution of cerium oxide precursor with aqueous solution of precursor of oxide of metal, and adding first precipitation agent to mixture.
  • 2003
  • Patent (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • NOVELTY - Oxygen storage material production comprises mixing aqueous solution of cerium oxide precursor with aqueous solution of precursor of oxide of metal to form mixture, adding first precipitation agent to mixture to form aqueous suspension containing precipitate, separating precipitate from suspension, drying and calcining precipitate. The oxygen storage material comprises cerium oxide and second oxide of a metal. The metal is alkaline earth metal, rare earth metal, zirconium, zinc, cobalt, copper and/or manganese. USE - The method is useful for producing oxygen storage material useful in exhaust gas cleaning catalyst for purifying exhaust gases of internal combustion engines especially of stoichiometrically operated otto engines. ADVANTAGE - The method provides catalyst that shows excellent activity for purifying harmful pollutant like carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and hydrocarbons. The oxygen storage materials are able to store oxygen in oxidizing atmosphere or release oxygen under reducing conditions, respectively. The oxygen storage material has high specific surface area after thermal aging and improved oxygen storage and release capacity under dynamic exhaust conditions. The storage material shows unprecedented high oxygen storage capacity and excellent dynamic properties with respect to oxygen storage and release compared to conventional materials. DESCRIPTION OF DRAWING(S) - The figure shows setup of precipitation reactor. • Tests of CPT invariance at neutrino factories
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Physical Review D. Particles and fields. - : The American Physical Society. - 0556-2821 .- 1089-4918. ; 65:7, s. 073024-1-073024-6
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We investigate possible tests of CPT invariance on the level of event rates at neutrino factories. We do not assume any specific model but phenomenological differences in the neutrino-antineutrino masses and mixing angles in a Lorentz invariance preserving context, such as could be induced by physics beyond the standard model. We especially focus on the muon neutrino and antineutrino disappearance channels in order to obtain constraints on the neutrino-antineutrino mass and mixing angle differences; we found, for example, that the sensitivity \m(3)-(m) over bar (3)\less than or similar to1.9x10(-4) eV could be achieved.

  • Genetic variation in the gene encoding calpain-10 is associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: Nature Genetics. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1546-1718 .- 1061-4036. ; 26:2, s. 163-175
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Type 2 or non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) is the most common form of diabetes worldwide, affecting approximately 4% of the world's adult population. It is multifactorial in origin with both genetic and environmental factors contributing to its development. A genome-wide screen for type 2 diabetes genes carried out in Mexican Americans localized a susceptibility gene, designated NIDDM1, to chromosome 2. Here we describe the positional cloning of a gene located in the NIDDM1 region that shows association with type 2 diabetes in Mexican Americans and a Northern European population from the Botnia region of Finland. This putative diabetes-susceptibility gene encodes a ubiquitously expressed member of the calpain-like cysteine protease family, calpain-10 (CAPN10). This finding suggests a novel pathway that may contribute to the development of type 2 diabetes.

  • Compton scattering from the deuteron and extracted neutron polarizabilities
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Physical Review Letters. - 1079-7114. ; 90:19
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Differential cross sections for Compton scattering from the deuteron were measured at MAX-Lab for incident photon energies of 55 and 66 MeV at nominal laboratory angles of 45degrees, 125degrees, and 135degrees. Tagged photons were scattered from liquid deuterium and detected in three NaI spectrometers. By comparing the data with theoretical calculations in the framework of a one-boson-exchange potential model, the sum and the difference of the isospin-averaged nucleon polarizabilities, alpha(N) + beta(N) = 17.4 +/- 3.7 and alpha(N) - beta(N) = 6.4 +/- 2.4 (in units of 10(-4) fm(3)), have been determined. By combining the latter with the global-averaged value for alpha(p) - beta(p) and using the predictions of the Baldin sum rule for the sum of the nucleon polarizabilities, we have obtained values for the neutron electric and magnetic polarizabilities of alpha(n) = 8.8 +/- 2.4(total) +/- 3.0(model) and beta(n) = 6.5 -/+ 2.4(total) -/+ 3.0(model), respectively.
