  • Probability measures associated to geodesics in the space of kähler metrics
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Springer Proceedings in Mathematics and Statistics. - Cham : Springer International Publishing. - 2194-1017 .- 2194-1009. ; 269, s. 395-419
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We associate certain probability measures on R to geodesics in the space HL of positively curved metrics on a line bundle L, and to geodesics in the finite dimensional symmetric space of hermitian norms on H0(X, kL). We prove that the measures associated to the finite dimensional spaces converge weakly to the measures related to geodesics in HL as k goes to infinity. The convergence of second order moments implies a recent result of Chen and Sun on geodesic distances in the respective spaces, while the convergence of first order moments gives convergence of Donaldson’s Z-functional to the Aubin–Yau energy. We also include a result on approximation of infinite dimensional geodesics by Bergman kernels which generalizes work of Phong and Sturm.

  • Vector-valued Eisenstein series of congruence types and their products
  • 2019
  • Licentiatavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Historically, Kohnen and Zagier connected modular forms with period polynomials, and as a consequence of this association concluded that the products of at most two Eisenstein series span all spaces of classical modular forms of level 1. Later Borisov and Gunnells among other authors extended the result to higher levels. We consider this problem for vector-valued modular forms, establish the framework of congruence types and obtain the structure of the space of vector-valued Eisenstein series using tools from representation theory. Based on this development and historic results, we show that the space of vector-valued modular forms of certain weights and any congruence type can be spanned by the invariant vectors of that type tensor at most two Eisenstein series.

  • Admissible transformations and the group classification of Schrödinger equations
  • 2017
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • We study admissible transformations and solve group classification problems for various classes of linear and nonlinear Schrödinger equations with an arbitrary number n of space variables. The aim of the thesis is twofold. The first is the construction of the new theory of uniform seminormalized classes of differential equations and its application to solving group classification problems for these classes. Point transformations connecting two equations (source and target) from the class under study may have special properties of semi-normalization. This makes the group classification of that class using the algebraic method more involved. To extend this method we introduce the new notion of uniformly semi-normalized classes. Various types of uniform semi-normalization are studied: with respect to the corresponding equivalence group, with respect to a proper subgroup of the equivalence group as well as the corresponding types of weak uniform semi-normalization. An important kind of uniform semi-normalization is given by classes of homogeneous linear differential equations, which we call uniform semi-normalization with respect to linear superposition of solutions. The class of linear Schrödinger equations with complex potentials is of this type and its group classification can be effectively carried out within the framework of the uniform semi-normalization. Computing the equivalence groupoid and the equivalence group of this class, we show that it is uniformly seminormalized with respect to linear superposition of solutions. This allow us to apply the version of the algebraic method for uniformly semi-normalized classes and to reduce the group classification of this class to the classification of appropriate subalgebras of its equivalence algebra. To single out the classification cases, integers that are invariant under equivalence transformations are introduced. The complete group classification of linear Schrödinger equations is carried out for the cases n = 1 and n = 2.The second aim is to study group classification problem for classes of generalized nonlinear Schrödinger equations which are not uniformly semi-normalized. We find their equivalence groupoids and their equivalence groups and then conclude whether these classes are normalized or not. The most appealing classes are the class of nonlinear Schrödinger equations with potentials and modular nonlinearities and the class of generalized Schrödinger equations with complex-valued and, in general, coefficients of Laplacian term. Both these classes are not normalized. The first is partitioned into an infinite number of disjoint normalized subclasses of three kinds: logarithmic nonlinearity, power nonlinearity and general modular nonlinearity. The properties of the Lie invariance algebras of equations from each subclass are studied for arbitrary space dimension n, and the complete group classification is carried out for each subclass in dimension (1+2). The second class is successively reduced into subclasses until we reach the subclass of (1+1)-dimensional linear Schrödinger equations with variable mass, which also turns out to be non-normalized. We prove that this class is mapped by a family of point transformations to the class of (1+1)-dimensional linear Schrödinger equations with unique constant mass.

  • On the strict convexity of the K-energy
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Pure and Applied Mathematics Quarterly. - 1558-8599 .- 1558-8602. ; 15:4, s. 983-999
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Let (X, L) be a polarized projective complex manifold. We show, by a simple toric one-dimensional example, that Mabuchi's K-energy functional on the geodesically complete space of bounded positive (1, 1)-forms in c(1)(L), endowed with the Mabuchi-Donaldson-Semmes metric, is not strictly convex modulo automorphisms. However, under some further assumptions the strict convexity in question does hold in the toric case. This leads to a uniqueness result saying that a finite energy minimizer of the K-energy (which exists on any toric polarized manifold (X, L) which is uniformly K-stable) is uniquely determined modulo automorphisms under the assumption that there exists some minimizer with strictly positive curvature current.

  • Order-preserving interpolation for summation-by-parts operators at nonconforming grid interfaces
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: SIAM Journal of Scientific Computing. - : Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics Publications. - 1064-8275 .- 1095-7197. ; 41:2, s. A1201-A1227
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We study nonconforming grid interfaces for summation-by-parts finite difference methods applied to partial differential equations with second derivatives in space. To maintain energy stability, previous efforts have been forced to accept a reduction of the global convergence rate by one order, due to large truncation errors at the nonconforming interface. We avoid the order reduction by generalizing the interface treatment and introducing order-preserving interpolation operators. We prove that, given two diagonal-norm summation-by-parts schemes, order-preserving interpolation operators with the necessary properties are guaranteed to exist, regardless of the grid-point distributions along the interface. The new methods retain the stability and global accuracy properties of the underlying schemes for conforming interfaces.

  • Riesz continuity of the Atiyah-Singer Dirac operator under perturbations of the metric
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Mathematische Annalen. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0025-5831 .- 1432-1807. ; 370:1-2, s. 863-915
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We prove that the Atiyah-Singer Dirac operator D-g in L-2 depends Riesz continuously L-infinity on perturbations of complete metrics on a smooth manifold. The Lipschitz bound for the map g -> D-g(1 + D-g(2))(-1/2) depends on bounds on Ricci curvature and its first derivatives as well as a lower bound on injectivity radius. Our proof uses harmonic analysis techniques related to Caldern's first commutator and the Kato square root problem. We also show perturbation results for more general functions of general Dirac-type operators on vector bundles.

  • Riesz continuity of the Atiyah–Singer Dirac operator under perturbations of local boundary conditions
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Communications in Partial Differential Equations. - : Informa UK Limited. - 0360-5302 .- 1532-4133. ; 44:12, s. 1253-1284
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • On a smooth complete Riemannian spin manifold with smooth compact boundary, we demonstrate that Atiyah–Singer Dirac operator /DB in L2 depends Riesz continuously on L∞ perturbations of local boundary conditions B. The Lipschitz bound for the map B→/DB(1+/D2B)−12 depends on Lipschitz smoothness and ellipticity of B and bounds on Ricci curvature and its first derivatives as well as a lower bound on injectivity radius away from a compact neighbourhood of the boundary. More generally, we prove perturbation estimates for functional calculi of elliptic operators on manifolds with local boundary conditions.

  • A Numerical Algorithm for C-2-Splines on Symmetric Spaces
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: SIAM Journal on Numerical Analysis. - : Siam Publications. - 1095-7170 .- 0036-1429. ; 56:4, s. 2623-2647
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Cubic spline interpolation on Euclidean space is a standard topic in numerical analysis, with countless applications in science and technology. In several emerging fields, for example, computer vision and quantum control, there is a growing need for spline interpolation on curved, non-Euclidean space. The generalization of cubic splines to manifolds is not self-evident, with several distinct approaches. One possibility is to mimic the acceleration minimizing property, which leads to Riemannian cubics. This, however, requires the solution of a coupled set of nonlinear boundary value problems that cannot be integrated explicitly, even if formulae for geodesics are available. Another possibility is to mimic De Casteljau's algorithm, which leads to generalized .Bezier curves. To construct C-2-splines from such curves is a complicated nonlinear problem, until now lacking numerical methods. Here we provide an iterative algorithm for C-2-splines on Riemannian symmetric spaces, and we prove convergence of linear order. In terms of numerical tractability and computational efficiency, the new method surpasses those based on Riemannian cubics. Each iteration is parallel and thus suitable for multicore implementation. We demonstrate the algorithm for three geometries of interest: the n-sphere, complex projective space, and the real Grassmannian.

  • Multiscale methods for problems with complex geometry
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering. - : Elsevier BV. - 0045-7825 .- 1879-2138. ; 321, s. 103-123
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We propose a multiscale method for elliptic problems on complex domains, e.g. domains with cracks or complicated boundary. For local singularities this paper also offers a discrete alternative to enrichment techniques such as XFEM. We construct corrected coarse test and trail spaces which takes the fine scale features of the computational domain into account. The corrections only need to be computed in regions surrounding fine scale geometric features. We achieve linear convergence rate in the energy norm for the multiscale solution. Moreover, the conditioning of the resulting matrices is not affected by the way the domain boundary cuts the coarse elements in the background mesh. The analytical findings are verified in a series of numerical experiments.

  • Newton's Equation on Diffeomorphisms and Densities
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Lecture Notes in Computer Science (including subseries Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence and Lecture Notes in Bioinformatics). - Cham : Springer International Publishing. - 1611-3349 .- 0302-9743. - 9783319684451 ; 10589, s. 873-873
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We develop a geometric framework for Newton-type equations on the infinite-dimensional configuration space of probability densities. It can be viewed as a second order analogue of the "Otto calculus" framework for gradient flow equations. Namely, for an n-dimensional manifold M we derive Newton's equations on the group of diffeomorphisms Diff(M) and the space of smooth probability densities Dens(M), as well as describe the Hamiltonian reduction relating them. For example, the compressible Euler equations are obtained by a Poisson reduction of Newton's equation on Diff(M) with the symmetry group of volume-preserving diffeomorphisms, while the Hamilton-Jacobi equation of fluid mechanics corresponds to potential solutions. We also prove that the Madelung transform between Schrodinger-type and Newton's equations is a symplectomorphism between the corresponding phase spaces T* Dens(M) and PL2 (M, C). This improves on the previous symplectic submersion result of von Renesse [1]. Furthermore, we prove that the Madelung transform is a Kahler map provided that the space of densities is equipped with the (prolonged) Fisher-Rao information metric and describe its dynamical applications. This geometric setting for the Madelung transform sheds light on the relation between the classical Fisher-Rao metric and its quantum counterpart, the Bures metric. In addition to compressible Euler, Hamilton-Jacobi, and linear and nonlinear Schrodinger equations, the framework for Newton equations encapsulates Burgers' inviscid equation, shallow water equations, two-component and mu-Hunter-Saxton equations, the Klein-Gordon equation, and infinite-dimensional Neumann problems.
