  • Properties of the 7He ground state from 8He neutron knockout
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Physics Letters, Section B: Nuclear, Elementary Particle and High-Energy Physics. - 0370-2693. ; 679:3, s. 191-196
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The unbound nucleus 7He, produced in neutron-knockout reactions with a 240 MeV/u 8He beam in a liquid-hydrogen target, has been studied in an experiment at the ALADIN-LAND setup at GSI. From an R-matrix analysis the resonance parameters for 7He as well as the spectroscopic factor for the 6He(0+) + n configuration in its ground-state have been obtained. The spectroscopic factor is 0.61 confirming that 7He is not a pure single-particle state. An analysis of 5He data from neutron-knockout reactions of 6He in a carbon target reveals the presence of an s-wave component at low energies in the α+n relative energy spectrum.A possible low-lying exited state in 7He observed in neutron knockout data from 8He in a carbon target and tentatively interpreted as a Iπ=1/2− state, could not be observed in the present experiment. Possible explanations of the shape difference between the 7He resonance obtained in the two knockout reactions are discussed in terms of target-dependence or different reaction mechanisms at relativistic energies.

  • Structure of the unbound nucleus Be-13: One-neutron knockout reaction data from Be-14 analyzed in a holistic approach
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C - Nuclear Physics. - 0556-2813. ; 87:6
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • At the ALADIN-LAND setup at GSI the unbound nucleus Be-13 has been produced in one-neutron knockout reactions from a 304 MeV/nucleon relativistic beam of Be-14 ions impinging on a liquid hydrogen target. An analysis of the data including all available information about Be-13, and in particular recent data from a similar experiment performed at RIKEN, has been performed. A consistent description is reached. It is found that the excitation spectrum is dominated by s-waves at low energy, which solves problems from previous seemingly contradictory interpretations. A possible interference between two s-states in Be-13 is also discussed. The results indicate that the ground-state wave function of Be-14 is dominated by valence neutrons in the s-shell contributing with 60-75% of the total neutron knockout cross section.

  • Nuclear Structure of C-12 from Break-up Studies in Complete Kinematics
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: AIP Conference Proceedings. - 0094-243X. ; 1165, s. 27-30 461
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A complete kinematics study of the B-10(He-3,p alpha alpha alpha) and B-11(He-3,d alpha alpha alpha) reactions has been performed to study the multi-particle break-up of C-12 resonances above the triple-alpha threshold. Four-particle coincidence detection gives us complete information on the direction and energy of the individual alpha particles from the decay of C-12, allowing us to extract new information on the structure of C-12 which we shall present in this contribution. We have observed gamma de-excitation of the T=1 15.11 MeV resonance using charged particle detectors, and have constructed Dalitz plots of the individual resonances in C-12 using the complete kinematics information of the alpha particles which come from their break-up.

  • Beta-delayed multiparticle emission studies at ISOL-type facilities
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Physics A. - 0375-9474. ; 746, s. 243C-247C
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report here on the recent beta-decay studies made at ISOL-type Facilities to determine the multiparticle breakup mechanism of excited states in light nuclei by studying them in full kinematics. In particular the results obtained for the A = 9 isobars and the breakup of the 12.7 MeV state in C-12 of unnatural parity are discussed. The breakup of the latter has been debated since more than a decade. Mirror beta transitions in the A = 9 chain are compared and a large asymmetry factor is deduced for the transitions to high excitation energy in Be-9 (11.8 MeV) and B-9 (12.2 MeV) fed in the beta-decay of Li-9 and C-9 respectively. It is shown that the asymmetry is not due to experimental problems or differences in the mechanisms of breakup or in the spin of the states. As no asymmetry is found in the gs to gs transition it must be due to the particular structure of these excited states. The controversy on the breakup mechanism of the 12.7 MeV state is resolved.

  • Mapping of the C-12* states via the B-10(He-3,p alpha alpha alpha) reaction
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal: Special Topics. - 1951-6355. ; 150:1, s. 207-210
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We have studied C-12 in full kinematics via the B-10(He-3, p alpha alpha alpha) reaction at an energy of 2.45 MeV. In our data we have identified states in C-12 from the ground state up to about 18 MeV, with spins ranging from 0 to 4. Due to the very good resolution, we are able to determine properties of these C-12 resonances, such as their energy, width, and spin. In this contribution preliminary results from the ongoing analysis are presented. Main focus on the precise determination of the breakup spectra for all resonances.

  • Scattering of the halo nucleus Li-11 and its core Li-9 on Pb-208 at energies around the Coulomb barrier
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Journal of Physics: Conference Series. - 1742-6588. ; 381
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The first measurement of the elastic scattering of the halo nucleus Li-11 and its core Li-9 on Pb-208 at energies around the Coulomb barrier is presented. The Li-11 reaction showed a large cross section for the breakup channel, even at energies well below the barrier. The analysis of the Li-11 + Pb-208 scattering data in terms of the continuum-discretized coupled-channel calculations indicates that the effect of the coupling to the breakup channels produces a strong suppression of the elastic cross section at energies above and below the barrier. This effect is mainly due to the strong Coulomb coupling to the dipole states in the low-lying continuum of Li-11.

  • One-neutron knockout of n-rich Ne isotopes at relativistic energies
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Physics A. - 0375-9474. ; 834:1-4, s. 485C-487C
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Longitudinal fragment-momentum distributions resulting front one-neutron knockout of 40 different neutron-rich exotic species (Z ranging from 6-13) have been recently measured at high-energy (700 A MeV) using the FRS at GSI. This paper concentrates on results obtained for the Ne isotopic chain where five isotopes (Ne-24-Ne-28) have been Studied. The comparison of those experimental results with simple model calculations shows the evolution of the nuclear structure across neutron numbers N=14,16 in this transitional region in the neighbourhood of the island of inversion.
