  • Collective Lie-Poisson integrators on R3
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: IMA Journal of Numerical Analysis. - : Oxford University Press (OUP). - 0272-4979 .- 1464-3642. ; 35:2, s. 546-560
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We develop Lie–Poisson integrators for general Hamiltonian systems on ℝ3 equipped with the rigid body bracket. The method uses symplectic realization of ℝ3 on T*ℝ2 and application of symplectic Runge–Kutta schemes. As a consequence, we obtain simple symplectic integrators for general Hamiltonian systems on the sphere S2.

  • Expression, purification and characterization of cellobiose dehydrogenase mutants from Phanerochaete chrysosporium in Pichia pastoris KM71H strain
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Journal of the Serbian Chemical Society. - : National Library of Serbia. - 0352-5139 .- 1820-7421. ; 85:1, s. 25-35
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Production of soluble cellobiose dehydrogenase (CDH) mutant proteins previously evolved on the surface of S. cerevisiae yeast cells was established for use in biosensors and biofuel cells. For this purpose, mutant cdh genes tm (D20N, A64T, V592M), H5 (D20N, V22A, A64T, V592M) and H9 (D20N, A64T, T84A, A261P, V592M, E674G, N715S) were cloned to pPICZ? plasmid and transformed into Pichia pastoris KM71H strain for high expression in a soluble form and kinetic characterization. After 6 days of expression under methanol induction, the CDHs were purified by ultrafiltration, ion- -exchange chromatography and gel filtration. Sodium dodecyl sulfate electrophoresis confirmed the purity and presence of a single protein band at a molecular weight of 100 kDa. Kinetic characterization showed that the H5 mutant had the highest catalytic constant of 43.5 s-1 for lactose, while the mutant H9 showed the highest specificity constant for lactose of 132 mM-1 s-1. All three mutant proteins did not change the pH optimum that was between 4.5 and 5.5. Compared to the previously obtained wild types and mutants of CDH from Phanerochaete chrysosporium, the variants reported in this article had higher activity and specificity that together with high protein expression rate in P. pastoris, makes them good candidates for use in biotechnology for lactobionic acid production and biosensor manufacture.

  • Momentums of success, illusio and habitus : High-achieving upper secondary students’ reasons for seeking academic success
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Educational Research. - : Elsevier BV. - 0883-0355 .- 1873-538X. ; 109
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Through interviews with 52 upper-secondary students from different socioeconomic, educational and migrant/native backgrounds, the article examines students’ own stories of what drives them to perform well in school. Different kinds of ‘illusios’ are reconstructed in terms of Bourdieu's sociology; Revanche, Proficiency, Fear of failing and Entitlement . They relate to different forms of social energy and emotions, such as the desire for rehabilitation of the self or family in the eyes of the other, and the drive for justification. Some is fuelled with social shame of not reaching the same position as parents, or meaning falling out of the system, while others are driven by an urge to be knowledgeable. These illusios work differently in relation to the students’ habitus.

  • Nurr1 Is Required for Maintenance of Maturing and Adult Midbrain Dopamine Neurons
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: The Journal of Neuroscience. - 1529-2401. ; 29:50, s. 15923-15932
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Transcription factors involved in the specification and differentiation of neurons often continue to be expressed in the adult brain, but remarkably little is known about their late functions. Nurr1, one such transcription factor, is essential for early differentiation of midbrain dopamine (mDA) neurons but continues to be expressed into adulthood. In Parkinson's disease, Nurr1 expression is diminished and mutations in the Nurr1 gene have been identified in rare cases of disease; however, the significance of these observations remains unclear. Here, a mouse strain for conditional targeting of the Nurr1 gene was generated, and Nurr1 was ablated either at late stages of mDA neuron development by crossing with mice carrying Cre under control of the dopamine transporter locus or in the adult brain by transduction of adeno-associated virus Cre-encoding vectors. Nurr1 deficiency in maturing mDA neurons resulted in rapid loss of striatal DA, loss of mDA neuron markers, and neuron degeneration. In contrast, a more slowly progressing loss of striatal DA and mDA neuron markers was observed after ablation in the adult brain. As in Parkinson's disease, neurons of the substantia nigra compacta were more vulnerable than cells in the ventral tegmental area when Nurr1 was ablated at late embryogenesis. The results show that developmental pathways play key roles for the maintenance of terminally differentiated neurons and suggest that disrupted function of Nurr1 and other developmental transcription factors may contribute to neurodegenerative disease.

  • Calcium soaps in flotation deinking; Fundamental studies using surface force and coagulation techniques
  • 1997
  • Ingår i: Colloids and Surfaces A. - 0927-7757 .- 1873-4359. ; 125, s. 33-46
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The surface force technique was shown to give useful information concerning the interaction of fatty acid flotation collectors and Ca2+ activator with a hydroxylated mica substrate at high pH. Since the surface of ink particles are enriched mainly by hydroxyl groups from natural resins, these experiments enabled some details of the fundsmental mechanisms involved in deinking flotation to be illucinated. The preliminary results (carried out at relatively low Ca2+ and fatty acid concentrations) may be summarised as follows; (a) At pH >10, the hydroxylated surface generated a long range DLVO double_x001E_layer repulsion and the electrical potential at the mica/electrolyte interface could be estimated. However, at short distances (15 Å from mica contact) a repulsive non-DLVO hydration barrier were detected due to adsorbed Na2+. (b) On addition of CaCl2, the Na2+ was exchanged by less strongly hydrated Ca2+ resulting in the elimination of the hydration forces and mica-mica contact. On addition of fatty acid, no change in the force profile was detected suggesting no Ca2+ was removal from the surface and there was no evidence of calcium soap formation in the surface region. This result implies that the Ca2+ does not induce a bridging mechanism in the presence of fatty acid (below the calcium soap precipitation level). In fact, the Ca2+ ions could only operate as bridging agents if they can specific bind to the surface as well as the carboxylated fatty acid. The "Ca2+ dehydration destabilization mechanism" was verified by coagulation studies with quartz suspensions. At higher fatty acid and Ca2+ concentrations, calcium soap was precipitated in bulk solution. It was suggested that microencapsulation of the ink particles with hydrophobic species can only occur through heterocoagulation with the bulk precipitated calcium soap particles.

  • Chlorine and hydrogen degassing in Vesta's magma ocean.
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Earth and Planetary Science Letters. - : Elsevier BV. - 0012-821X .- 1385-013X. ; 459, s. 311-319
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The hydrophilic nature of halogens makes these elements ideal for probing potential hydrous geologic processes. Generally, in magmatic settings the stable isotopes of Cl may fractionate when H is in low concentrations and little fractionation occurs when the H concentration is high. We determined the Cl isotope composition and halogen content (F, Cl, Br, and I) of apatite and merrillite in seven basaltic eucrites, which are meteorites linked to the asteroid 4-Vesta, by using secondary ion mass spectrometry. We compare our halogen results with H isotope data, existing bulk rock concentrations, and petrologic models. The inferred Cl isotope composition of eucrites from this study, expressed in standard  δ37Cl notation, which ranges from −3.8 to 7.7‰, correlates with the bulk major- and trace-element content, e.g., the Cl isotope composition positively correlates with Mg and Sc, while Cl isotope composition negatively correlates with K, V, and Cr. Here we suggest that eucrites preserve evidence of a degassing magma ocean as evidenced by the decreasing bulk rock K content with increasing δ37Cl. If the eucrite parent body, 4-Vesta, accreted with a negative δ37Cl of −3.8±1.1‰, at least some parts of the solar nebula would have been isotopically light compared to most estimates of the Earth, which on average is close to 0‰.

  • Quality of life and procrastination in post-H1N1 narcolepsy, sporadic narcolepsy and idiopathic hypersomnia, a Swedish cross-sectional study
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Sleep Medicine. - : Elsevier BV. - 1389-9457. ; 76, s. 104-112
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective/Background: A cross-sectional study of health-related quality of life (HRQoL), procrastination and the relation to sleepiness, depression and fatigue in post-H1N1 narcolepsy type 1 (NT1), sporadic NT1 and idiopathic hypersomnia (IH). Patients/Methods: Participants with NT1 and IH were enrolled from the Department of Neurology, Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg (Sweden). All participants completed questionnaires about medication, employment, studies, transfer income, sleepiness, HRQoL, depression, fatigue and three questionnaires for procrastination. Results: Post-H1N1, sporadic NT1 and IH all scored higher than healthy controls on Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS), Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) and Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS), whereas EQ-5D-5L index and VAS was lower than for healthy individuals, but with no difference between groups. Post-H1N1 NT1 had a larger proportion of participants prescribed with sodium oxybate (44% vs. 9%, p = 0.003) and dexamphetamine (62% vs. 17%, p = 0.03) compared to sporadic NT1. The latter also in significantly higher doses than in sporadic NT1 (46 +/- 12 vs. 25 +/- 10 and 47.5 +/- 21 mg, p < 0.0001). Post-H1N1 NT1 also had significantly higher scores on Pure Procrastination Scale (PPS), Irrational Procrastination Scale (IPS) and Susceptibility to Temptation Scale (STS), indicating a higher degree of procrastination. Multivariate analysis showed that depression, and to some extent fatigue, were predictors in NT1 for both HRQoL and procrastination. Conclusions: The results show that health-related quality of life is impaired and tendency to procrastinate is higher in patients suffering from NT1 and both attributes can in part be explained by depressive symptoms. These findings highlight the impact of symptoms other than sleep and wakefulness regulation in patients with NT1. (C) 2020 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

  • The effect of maternal body mass index on duration of induced labor
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Acta Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica. - : Wiley. - 0001-6349 .- 1600-0412. ; 99:5, s. 669-678
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Introduction: Obese primiparous women with induction of labor are at high risk for a cesarean section. There are contradictory results regarding time in induced labor in relation to maternal body mass index (BMI). It is important to characterize the course of induced labor to prevent unnecessary cesarean section. We aimed to evaluate whether the duration of labor was associated with maternal BMI in primiparous women with induction of labor. Material and methods: A national retrospective cohort study, including 15 259 primiparae with a single term pregnancy, admitted for induction of labor from January 2014 to August 2017. Data were obtained from the Swedish Pregnancy Registry. Cox regression analyses were used to illustrate the association between BMI and active labor and between BMI and time from admission until start of active labor. Results: Duration of active labor was shorter in underweight women and prolonged in women with BMI ≥40 kg/m2 compared with women in other BMI classes, illustrated by Cox regression graphs (P <.001). The median durations of active labor in underweight women were 6.1 and 7.4 hours in women with BMI ≥40 kg/m2. The time from admission until start of active labor increased with maternal BMI, illustrated by Cox regression graphs (P <.001) and the median duration increased from 12.9 hours in underweight women to 22.6 hours in women with BMI ≥40 kg/m2. The cesarean section rate in active labor increased significantly with BMI (P <.001) from 7.4% in underweight women to 22.0% in women with BMI ≥40 kg/m2. Obese and normal weight women had similar rates of spontaneous vaginal delivery (69.9% in the total study population). Conclusions: The duration of active labor was associated with maternal BMI for underweight women and women with BMI ≥40 kg/m2. Although women with BMI ≥40 kg/m2 who reached the active phase of labor had the same chance for a spontaneous vaginal delivery as normal weight women, the duration of active labor and the cesarean section rate were increased. The time from admission until start of active labor increased successively with maternal BMI.
