  • Identity formations as mathematical learners in the context of transition
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Nordisk matematikkdidaktikk, NOMAD. - : Nationellt centrum för matematikutbildning (NCM). - 1104-2176. ; 23:3-4, s. 39-59
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper explores the relation between discourses and identity formations as mathematical learners in the context of transition. The data consists of an interview with two 16 years old immigrant girls who were re-allocated when their school in a multicultural and socio-economically disadvantaged area in Sweden was closed. The girls showed dynamic and unstable identities by drawing on different discourses. Social realtional discourses more than mathematical pedagogical discorses, governed their actions as learners of mathematics. Enabling identities as noisy un-engaged but able students in the old school, and as engaged and accepted, but also as strangers, in the new school.

  • The Past is the Present – Prehistory and Preservation from a Children’s Point of View
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Public Archaeology. - 1465-5187 .- 1753-5530. ; 6:1, s. 28-46
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A historic-didactic study is presented that examines aspects of historicalconsciousness among 11-year-old school children who have participated incultural environment education projects. A short description of the projectsand an analysis of the results is followed by a concluding section withreflections on archaeology, and meetings with school children in the course ofcontract archaeological work. The results of the study show that, for thestudents, the past is not about then, it is about now. It is claimed that thisdemands a shift in focus for public archaeology within cultural environmenteducation projects: from stories about the past told in the present to storiesabout the present referring to the past.

  • Technology as the language of schooling : utopian visions of technology in Swedish general education in the 1960s
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: International journal of technology and design education. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0957-7572 .- 1573-1804. ; 23:3, s. 581-595
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In the state-of-the-art Glass Project run by the Swedish National Agency for Education during the second half of the 1960s, a new type of comprehensive technology education was developed. The project had little impact on school practice and was soon forgotten about. However, the project is interesting from several points of view. First, it elaborated an interesting curricular idea where school activities were to centre around technology, thus creating a meaningful whole for the pupils, a sort of "language of schooling". Second, the Glass Project illustrates a utopian logic of educational reform. The school had become an important area of reform in the mid-twentieth century, and in this the pedagogy of the "old school" was heavily criticised. Technology education clearly became a tool for progressive ideas in Sweden in the 1960s.

  • World christianity as post-colonialising of theology
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Contextual Theology : Skills and Practices of Liberating Faith - Skills and Practices of Liberating Faith. - London : Routledge. - 9780367365301 - 9781000217261 ; , s. 221-237
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this chapter, the author argues that the old-school confessional and ethnocentric theology has no place in today’s Western secular academia. He focuses on the academic discipline under the name “theology”. Mission studies has represented a widening of the horizon in theology in the sense that through it, non-Western cultures and religions have gradually been introduced into the theological agenda, resulting in contextual theologies where the interaction between faith and culture is lifted into focus. The renewal needed for theology in Western academia can use World Christianity as its model. What is done in the study of World Christianity needs thus to become a standard approach in theology. Theology can no longer afford to externalise the task of cultural plurality to contextual theologies, mission studies, or World Christianity, but the multiple voices in terms of cultures and subcultures need to be recognised throughout.

  • Micturition habits and incontinence in 7-year-old Swedish school entrants.
  • 1990
  • Ingår i: European journal of pediatrics. - 0340-6199. ; 149:6, s. 434-7
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The prevalence of incontinence in children has been extensively studied, but knowledge of other bladder symptoms is lacking in a healthy child population. The micturition habits of 3556 7-year-old school entrants were surveyed by a questionnaire supplemented by telephone interviews. One or more symptoms of a disturbed bladder function was reported in 26%, but most of these had moderate urgency as a sign of incomplete voluntary bladder control. Isolated bedwetting occurred in 2.8% of the girls and 7.0% of the boys, whereas nocturnal incontinence combined with daytime wetting was equally common in both sexes, 2.3% and 2.0% respectively. Diurnal incontinence was reported in 6.0% of the girls and 3.8% of the boys and was usually combined with other symptoms. The frequency of micturition in children without symptoms of bladder disturbance and with no previous urinary tract infection was 3-7 times per day.

  • Assessing the validity and reliability of the "Health Dialogue" in 10-year-olds
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: British Journal of School Nursing. - : Mark Allen Group. - 1752-2803 .- 2052-2827. ; 8:8, s. 384-391
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Aim:The aim was to assess the concurrent, construct and convergent validity of the Health Dialogue questionnaire (HD) in 4th grade in compulsory school, through comparison of the HD questionnaire with Pediatric Quality Of Life Inventory (PedsQL), and Health Behavior in School-aged Children (HBSC).Methods:A sample was created from the HD n=1956, HBSC, n=1500 and PedsQL n=425. An exploratory factor analysis was performed in order to evaluate the construct validity of HD.Results:A majority of the questions show acceptable concurrent validity and the results support the HD as a valid 16-item three factorial model for school children aged 10 years old (grade 4). The HD's three factorial model's degree of explanation was 39% of the school children's health in school settings. Conclusion:The HD questionnaire is a valid instrument for measuring 10-year-old school children's self-reported-health and to identify positive health factors.

  • Artificial Intelligence and Ethics in Portfolio Management
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Agrifoglio R., Lamboglia R., Mancini D., Ricciardi F. (eds) Digital Business Transformation. Lecture Notes in Information Systems and Organisation, vol 38.. - Cham : Springer. - 9783030473556 ; , s. 19-30
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This work in progress aims to explore ethical dilemmas connected to the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in financial portfolio management, and their managerial implications. In old school quantitative investing, portfolio allocation decisions are typically based on a well-defined investment strategy. Financial portfolio managers devise and apply investment strategies to maximize expected returns for customers’ portfolios. The introduction of AI-enhanced algorithms enables smart machines to automatically revise and update investment strategies, learning from the past. AI itself might produce significant effects on the gains and losses of the portfolio management strategies, raising ethical dilemmas connected with human versus machine responsibility, accountability, and risk. From the managerial point of view, a new dimension of performance measuring, competence evaluation and incentive allocation is required for managing AI software developers in this area. To explore such dilemmas, empirical evidence is drawn here from MDOTM, an innovative and successful young enterprise developing AI-driven investment strategies for financial markets.

  • Institutional discrimination: Stereotypes and social reproduction of “class” in the Swedish upper-secondary school
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Social Psychology of Education. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1381-2890 .- 1573-1928. ; 18:4
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This article discusses the effects of separating 15–16 years-old school students in isolated academic and practical study programs in upper-secondary education. It is based on an investigation of the social identities developed by and about youth learners in these circumstances. In particular we examine the creation of identity positions by youth on academic programs regarding themselves and people like them (in-group characteristics) on the one hand and for other kinds of students on the other, on vocational programs. These constructions are analyzed as a product of self-categorization theory. The investigation involved 224 students from upper-secondary school academic programs. Our results showed that the academic program students expressed strong stereotypes with extremely negative potentials in relation to future social solidarity and equity. On the basis of the findings we strongly recommend introducing mixed classes in upper-secondary school, where students from academic and vocational programs take the same courses in general subjects as a way of reducing stereotypes and prejudice.

  • Assessing the Construct Validity and Reliability of School Health Records of the ‘Health Dialogue Questionnaire,’ in 7th Grade in Compulsory School
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: MOJ Public Health. - : MedCrave Group, LLC. - 2379-6383. ; 2:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: The aim for this study was to assess the construct validity and reliability of the Health Dialogue Questionnaire (HDQ), 7th grade in compulsory school through comparison of the HDQ, with Paediatric Quality Of Life Inventory (PedsQLTM), Local monitoring of youth policy questionnaire (LUPP®) and Health behaviour in Swedish school-aged children (HBSC).Design and methods: A sample was created from HDQ (n= 2008), PedsQLTM (n=477), LUPP (n=2648), HBSC, (n=1500) andan exploratory factor analysis was performed in order to evaluate the construct validity of HDQ of the school children´s health in school settings. Results: The results supported the HDQ as a valid 24 items factorial model, for girls a five factorial model and for boys a four factorial model for school children aged 13 years old (grade 7). The girls' model explained 63 % of the variance, while the boys' model explained 58 % of the variance. A majority of the questions showed an agreeable concurrent and discriminant validity. Conclusions: The HDQ questionnaire is a valid instrument for measuring 13-year-old school children's self-reported-health.Keywords: Adolescents; Construct Validity; Factor Analysis; Health Dialogue Questionnaire; Health Promotion

  • The pit : landscape scars as potential cultural tools
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Heritage Studies (IJHS). - : Informa UK Limited. - 1352-7258 .- 1470-3610. ; 19:7, s. 692-708
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A huge and continuously growing pit is about to divide the Swedish mining town of Malmberget into two halves. What once was the town centre is now a 200 metres deep hole, and private homes and key buildings like the old school and the church have had to be demolished or moved. The pit is a human imposed landscape scar' epitomising the town's lost golden age of mining, its present situation of decline and uncertain future prospects - despite a recent recovery in the mining industry. Although the pit is decisively present in the local community, it is not articulated as significant, especially not from a heritage perspective. Why is this so? In this article, we examine the pit as a potential cultural tool for heritage processes, and find that it is indeed used by individuals in this respect, but not in collective memorialisation. We conclude that landscape scars definitely can constitute critical cultural tools, although they may not always need to be labelled as belonging to an authorized heritage discourse'. Instead, the potential of the landscape scar is to enhance the amount and recognition of shared memories in the local community.
