• A theoretical framework for assessing the impact of ICT-based interventions for carers
• 2012
• Ingår i: Gerontechnology. - 1569-1101 .- 1569-111X. ; 11:2, s. 393-393
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
•
Purpose Initiatives using information and communication technologies (ICTs) as support for carers of dependent older people are reported since the early 1990s, mainly in form of phone services, computer networks, and video respite. Although the role of ICTs in home care gained increasing relevance in the last decades – for instance in the areas of social integration, care coordination and ambient assisted living (AAL) – few attempts have been made to systematically understand the potentialities of such technologies, overcoming single technology or intervention domains. In this respect, the issues of terminology ambiguity and lack of comparability represented major barriers, so that most of evaluation studies in this area led to mixed and/or inconclusive results. Drawing on the findings of the CARICT-project, this paper discusses the development of a theoretical and conceptual framework to assess the impact ofI CT-based interventions for carers. Method Literature review and a mapping exercise of 52 ICT-based initiatives for carers in 8 countries. Results & Discussion We will provide the results of a mapping exercise of 52 case studies, showing the diversity of existing good practices across Europe and carrying out a review of available impact assessment of these initiatives from a social ecological perspective (at micro-, meso- and macro-level). Subsewquently, we will discuss a theoretical and conceptual framework that is built on the basis of available evidence, leading toa proper classification of ICT-based interventions in relation to types of interactions between actors they support: an attempt is made to group the solutions in coherent and comprehensive classes, with related implications for impact assessments and comparative analysis. Main classes include: alarms, home automation, auto-communication, meta-services, information and training, cognitive stimulations and mental exercises, support group sessions, individual care and support services, and social participation tools. Finally, recommendations for future research in the field are formulated with regard to the assessment and comparability of these services, as well as to the testing and development of new solutions.

• Using Volunteers for Emergency Response in Rural Areas Network Collaboration Factors and IT support in the Case of Enhanced Neighbors
• 2017
• Ingår i: Proceedings of the 14th International Conference on Information Systems for Crisis Response and Management. - Albi : ISCRAM Association. ; s. 985-995
• Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
•
In public services, there is a trend to increasingly utilize collaborations with non-professional volunteers for certain tasks, one example being emergency response. In many of these collaborations, information technology (IT) is an essential tool, and inadequate IT support can have far-reaching consequences—including even the loss of lives. Since a volunteer is a different type of actor, and may have different technical requirements, compared to professionals, there is a need to explore how collaborations between professionals and volunteers can be successfully developed. This paper is based on a case study of the Enhanced Neighbor project, which uses volunteers as first responders in emergency response. The study highlights important factors to consider when involving volunteers, including how IT can foster the collaboration, and the volunteers’ needs for IT support.

• Exploring users motivation in innovation communities
• 2011
• Ingår i: International Journal of Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management. - 1368-275X .- 1741-5098. ; 14:4, s. 298-314
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
•
A rapid growth of technologies supporting user interaction on the Internet, such as social networking sites and other virtual communities, can be seen today. These virtual communities have been shown to be of great value to companies that want to involve users in their innovation processes. However, in order to guide organisations on how to utilise their innovation intermediary communities, more knowledge is needed regarding who they are and their motivational drivers for participating in a community. The aim of this paper therefore is to explore who the users are and what motivates them to contribute to innovation processes in an innovation intermediary community. The main findings of our study indicate that users' motivation to participate is influenced by community type as well as technology adoption type. This study show that in innovation intermediary communities, one important motivational factor for users is learning.

• A topological approach to Mobility as a Service: A proposed tool for understanding requirements and effects, and for aiding the integration of societal goals
• 2018
• Ingår i: Research in Transportation Business and Management. - 2210-5395. ; 27, s. 3-14
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• The purpose of this paper is to shed light on the concept of MaaS and what characterises a ‘MaaS service’, as well as to propose a topology of MaaS as a tool for facilitating the discussion of MaaS, enabling the ‘comparison of’ different services, understanding MaaS' potential effects, and aiding the integration of societal goals into MaaS services. Based on an exploration of existing definitions and descriptions of MaaS, and an expert workshop identifying key aspects and ascertaining service differentiations accordingly, the resulting proposed topology consists of MaaS Levels 0 to 4 as characterised by different types of integration: 0 no integration; 1 integration of information; 2 integration of booking and payment; 3 integration of the service offer, including contracts and responsibilities; 4 integration of societal goals. The levels are then described in terms of their added value and further discussed regarding implications for society, business, users/customers, and technical requirements. Then, a deeper discussion also delves into the potential in expanding upon Level 4 and ways by which services and societal goals can become more fully integrated. The proposed topology adds clarity to the discussion of such a trending topic and enables the positioning of services along the MaaS spectrum. It also deepens the understanding of why MaaS can take time to establish, and can help support the development of action plans in terms of what needs to be done depending on what type of MaaS one wants to develop. Further analysis is desirable regarding the possibilities and problems linked with the different levels of MaaS. Such an analysis is key to understanding which effects can be achieved via the implementation of different levels of MaaS services in terms of e.g. social, economic and ecological sustainability, and business potential.

• Shaping security behavior through discipline and agility : Implications for information security management
• 2011
• Ingår i: Information Management & Computer Security. - 0968-5227 .- 1758-5805. ; 19:4, s. 262-276
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
•
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to broaden the understanding about security behaviour bydeveloping a security behavior typology based on the concepts of discipline and agility.Design/methodology/approach: A case study was designed to analyze security behaviours in onepublic nursing centre. The inquiry was organized around the themes discipline and agility, culture, and security processes in order to get an in-depth understanding of the complex relationship betweensecurity management, referred to as discipline, and security in use, referred to as agility.Findings: The paper shows that security behaviour can be shaped by discipline and agility and thatboth can exist collectively if organizations consider the constitutional and existential aspects ofinformation security management.Practical implications: This research makes a pivotal stand for the issue how security behavioursnarrate a broad picture to enhance information security management. In particular, this will improvedesign of information security training and awareness programs.Originality/value: This research is relevant to information security management in organizations, particularly as behavioural and cultural aspects are becoming increasingly significant for maintainingand also designing systemic information security management.

• Critical Infrastructure Network DDoS Defense, via Cognitive Learning
• 2017
• Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
•
Some public and private services are called part of the Critical Infrastructure (CI), which are considered as the most important services to protect the functioning of a society and the economy. Many CIs provide services via the Internet and thus cyber-attacks can be performed remotely. It is now very simple and free to find and download software, which automates performing cyber-attacks. A recent example is that two teenagers, with close to no security knowledge, created an on-line business. They would run cyber-attacks (online booter service called vDOS, as reported by Brian Krebs) for a small fee. They reportedly earned over 600,000 USD in a short period of time by conducting a large number of automated DDoS cyber-attacks. Then Krebs was retaliated against, and the highest DDoS attack bandwidth ever recorded, 620 Gbps, was launched against Krebs. In this paper we show how cognitive learning can be used to significantly mitigate any effects of DDoS network attacks, against the critical infrastructure.

• When and who leaves matters : emerging results from an empirical study of employee turnover
• 2018
• Ingår i: Proceedings of the 12th ACM/IEEE International Symposium on Empirical Software Engineering and Measurement, ESEM, 2018, Oulu, Finland. - IEEE Computer Society. - 978-1-4503-5823-1
• Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
•
Background: Employee turnover in GSD is an extremely important issue, especially in Western companies offshoring to emerging nations.

Aims: In this case study we investigated an offshore vendor company and in particular whether the employees’ retention is related with their experience. Moreover, we studied whether we can identify a threshold associated with the employees’ tendency to leave the particular company.

Method: We used a case study, applied and presented descriptive statistics, contingency tables, results from Chi-Square test of association and post hoc tests.

Results: The emerging results showed that employee retention and company experience are associated. In particular, almost 90% of the employees are leaving the company within the first year, where the percentage within the second year is 50-50%. Thus, there is an indication that the 2 years’ time is the retention threshold for the investigated offshore vendor company.

Conclusions: The results are preliminary and lead us to the need for building a prediction model which should include more inherent characteristics of the projects to aid the companies avoiding massive turnover waves.
