  • Hur samstämmiga är svenska styrdokument och nationella prov med ramverk och uppgifter i TIMSS Advanced 2015?
  • 2016

  • Patients’ experiences of place and space after a relocation to evidence-based designed forensic psychiatric hospitals
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Mental Health Nursing. - : Wiley. - 1447-0349 .- 1445-8330. ; 30:5, s. 1210-1220
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Forensic hospitals provide care for incarcerated patients who have committed a crime under the influence of serious mental illness. The care and (re)habilitation of the target group require highly competent staff and treatment strategies as well as purpose-built facilities that promote successful recovery. The aim of this study was to examine patients’ experiences of place and space in new, purpose-built, evidence-based designed forensic psychiatric facilities in terms of supporting everydayness. A qualitative methodology was chosen. In total, 19 patients agreed to participate. Data were collected through photovoice (a combination of photographs and interviews) at three forensic hospitals, according to an evidence-based design and the concept of person-centred care in Sweden. The data were analysed through thematic content analysis. Four themes emerged from the data, revealing the patients’ experiences of the new buildings: (i) having a private place, (ii) upholding one’s sense of self, (iii) feelings of comfort and harmony, and (iv) remaining connected to one’s life. The findings reveal that purpose-built environments can support everyday living and well-being and can create comfort. This is considered highly therapeutic by the patients. In conclusion, the findings of this study are of imperative importance in the design of health-promoting forensic hospitals.

  • Fact or Fiction? Investigating the Quality of Opinion Poll Coverage and Its Antecedents
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Journalism Studies. - 1461-670X .- 1469-9699. ; 19:14
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • One of the key democratic functions of the media is to provide people with the kind of information they need to be free and self-governing. This is equally important when it comes to the coverage of opinion polls. Thus far, there is however only limited research on the quality of the media’s coverage of opinion polls, including factors that might help to explain variation in the quality of opinion poll coverage. Against this background, the purpose of this study is (1) to investigate the extent to which news media take statistical uncertainties into account when covering opinion polls and making causal interpretations based on opinion polls, and (2) to explore some factors that might help to explain variation in the quality of opinion poll coverage. Among other things, the results show that journalists very often fail to take statistical uncertainties into account and that they, in about half of the cases, provide explanations for changes that are within the margin of error. The results also show that the quality of opinion poll coverage varies between different types of media organizations and between election campaigns and off-election periods.

  • Risk perception, choice of drinking water and water treatment: evidence from Kenyan towns
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Journal of Water Sanitation and Hygiene for Development. - : IWA Publishing. - 2043-9083 .- 2408-9362. ; 4:2, s. 268-280
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study used household survey data from four Kenyan towns to examine the effect of households' characteristics and risk perceptions on their decision to treat/filter water as well as on their choice of main drinking water source. Because the two decisions may be jointly made by the household, a seemingly unrelated bivariate probit model was estimated. It turned out that treating non-piped water and using piped water as a main drinking water source were substitutes. The evidence supports the finding that perceived risks significantly correlate with a household's decision to treat non-piped water before drinking it. The study also found that higher connection fees reduced the likelihood of households connecting to the piped network. Because the current connection fee acts as a cost hurdle which deters households from getting a connection, the study recommends a system where households pay the connection fee in instalments, through a prepaid water scheme or through a subsidy scheme.

  • Impact of an education program to facilitate nurses' discussions of existential issues in neurological care
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Palliative & Supportive Care. - : Cambridge University Press. - 1478-9515 .- 1478-9523. ; 20:5, s. 630-636
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objectives Discussing existential issues is integral to caring for people with acute, progressive, or life-limiting neurological illness, but there is a lack of research examining how nurses approach existential issues with this patient group and their family members. The purpose was to examine the experiential impact of an educational program for nurses designed to facilitate discussions of existential issues with patients and family members in neurological wards. Method Nurses in inpatient and outpatient care at a neurological clinic in Sweden were invited to participate in an education program about discussing existential issues with patients and their family members as related to neurological conditions. The evaluation of the program and of the nurses' view of discussing existential issues was conducted through focus groups before and after participation. The data were analyzed by qualitative content analysis. Results The program gave nurses a deeper understanding of existential issues and how to manage these conversations with patients and their family members. Both internal and external barriers remained after education, with nurses experiencing insecurity and fear, and a sense of being inhibited by the environment. However, they were more aware of the barriers after the education, and it was easier to find strategies to manage the conversations. They demonstrated support for each other in the team both before and after participating in the program. Significance of results The educational program gave nurses strategies for discussing existential issues with patients and family members. The knowledge that internal and external barriers impede communication should compel organizations to work on making conditions more conducive, for example, by supporting nurses to learn strategies to more easily manage conversations about existential issues and by reviewing the physical environment and the context in which they are conducted.
