    • Research results within the field of Applied and Performing Arts are underrepresented in open archives today. The research results are of various kinds, often multidisciplinary and can be found for example in exhibitions, shows, installations and performances and are documented in different kinds of media; video, sound and photo etc. Institutional repositories are not built for handling these kinds of complex multimedia objects effectively; software needs to be developed to describe the objects from this field of research. It is vital to develop open archives to provide a more user-friendly interface for depositing these types of research results, and it is also important to develop a better way of displaying the visual objects for end users.

    • In chest tomosynthesis, low-dose projections collected over a limited angular range are used for reconstruction of section images of the chest, resulting in a reduction of disturbing anatomy at a moderate increase in radiation dose compared to chest radiography. In a previous study, we investigated the effects of learning with feedback on the detection of pulmonary nodules in chest tomosynthesis. Six observers with varying degrees of experience of chest tomosynthesis analyzed tomosynthesis cases for presence of pulmonary nodules. The cases were analyzed before and after learning with feedback. Multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) was used as reference. The differences in performance between the two readings were calculated using the jackknife alternative free-response receiver operating characteristics (JAFROC-2) as primary measure of detectability. Significant differences between the readings were found only for observers inexperienced in chest tomosynthesis. The purpose of the present study was to extend the statistical analysis of the results of the previous study, including JAFROC-1 analysis and FROC curves in the analysis. The results are consistent with the results of the previous study and, furthermore, JAFROC-1 gave lower p-values than JAFROC-2 for the observers who improved their performance after learning with feedback. © 2011 SPIE.

    • För fler och fler idrottare ingår styrketräning som en del i deras fysiska träning. Den bedrivs för att öka prestationsförmågan och för att förebygga skador, samt vid rehabilitering i syfte att återställa muskelfunktion. Rätt utförd styrketräning kan åstadkomma goda resultat på alla ovanstående punkter. Hur styrketräning bör utformas och bedrivas är däremot fortfarande oklart. Vad säger forskningen och vilka rekommendationer finns tillhanda i dag?

    • Kan styrketräning förebygga skador och skall träningen se annorlunda ut för kvinnor jämfört med män? För att styrketräning ska kunna förebygga skador måste idrottens och idrottarens förutsättningar beaktas. Att ha bra muskelstyrka, såväl maximal, explosiv som uthållig, samt bra koordination/teknik är viktigt. Därför rekommenderas en kombination av styrketräning och teknikträning. Styrketräningen bör vara individuellt upplagd (även inom lagidrott) och ske under övervakning av erfaren tränare. Skadebilden ser till viss del olika ut för män och kvinnor inom många idrotter. För kvinnor, som generellt sett är svagare än män, är styrketräning kanske extra viktig för att förebygga skador.
