  • Effects of extended preoperative information on perioperative stress : an anaesthetic nurse intervention for patients with breast cancer and total hip replacement
  • 1998
  • Ingår i: Intensive & Critical Care Nursing. - Oxford : Elsevier. - 0964-3397 .- 1532-4036. ; 14:6, s. 276-282
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • An anaesthetic nurse intervention was performed in order to evaluate the effects of extended preoperative information, given by anaesthetic nurses, on perioperative stress in patients operated on for breast cancer or total hip replacement (THR). Forty-six consecutive patients scheduled for surgery for breast cancer, and 55 for THR, were randomized into two groups which were given different modes of preoperative information. Patients in the control group were informed about pre-and postoperative routines by a ward nurse. Patients in the intervention group were given extended formalized information by an anaesthetic nurse. Wilcoxon rank sum test was used to show relations between variables. There were no significant differences between the intervention group and control group for patients with breast cancer or for patients with THR. Breast cancer patients in the intervention group were significantly more anxious than THR patients in the intervention group (P<0.01). Breast cancer patients in the intervention group showed the highest anxiety scores on the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) scale on the day of surgery. This information may reflect an increased level of anxiety due to the extended information given preoperatively. The information may thus have had a negative effect on breast cancer patients, resulting in an increased state of anxiety. The result indicates a need for individualized modes of information to provide a proper balance between enough and too much information. © 1998 Harcourt Brace & Co. Ltd.

  • Improved nodular iron for forming dies to obtain functional die surfaces
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the IDDRG 2008 Conference. - Olofström : Industriellt utvecklingscentrum i Olofström AB. - 9789163329487 ; , s. 615-626
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • During the past years, large efforts have been made, to analyze and evaluate the surface quality of dies manufactured in nodular iron (GGG70L). The variation of quality in respect of wear resistance hardenability and micro cracks are the main issues. It results in bad surface quality on the formed parts (scratches) which gives break down in the production and increases the maintenance (repolishing of tool surface). The spread in wear resistance depends on that the parameters for a functional working surface combined with and the lubrication is not clarified and thus not been able to be specifie . The main parameters for a functional working surface are among other things the amount of nodules (n), size, shape (style), how the exit side (in draw direction) of the nodule crater looks like. Different qualities in respect to size, amount and shape of the nodules in a nodular iron have been tested against uncoated sheet material (H300LA, t=1.5mm) in semi-industrial test equipment (OSAS U-bend). The surface conditions of the nodular iron are laser or induction surface hardened. The result in this investigation shows that nodular iron (GGG70L) with high nodule count and small nodule size in the working surface gives a significant improvement of the resistance to adhesive wear.

  • Swedish Mental Health Nurses’ Experiences of Portrayals of Mental Illness in Public Media
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Issues in Mental Health Nursing. - Philadelphia, PA : Taylor & Francis. - 0161-2840 .- 1096-4673. ; 41:4, s. 348-354
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • News reporting about mental illness lack perspectives of the mentally ill themselves and it is almost exclusively psychiatrists who are accessed when healthcare staff is consulted. The perspective of mental health nurses might contribute to the public understanding of mental illness. The purpose of this study was to describe mental health nurses’ experiences of how mental illness is portrayed in media. Eight semi-structured interviews were conducted with qualified mental health nurses. A qualitative content analysis resulted in three categories: Negative portrayals of mental illness, Inconclusive images of mental illness and Biased dissemination of different perspectives. The conclusion of this study is that mental health nurses experience media portrayals of mental illness as negative and misleading with too much emphasis on the medical perspective while a holistic mental health nursing perspective is heavily obscured. Mental health nurses need to take a more prominent role in public reporting on mental health to resolve the current lack of relevant facts regarding mental illness. Further research is needed regarding portrayals of mental illness in social media and how the current lack of perspectives affects public perceptions of mental illness. In addition, further studies regarding the viewpoints of journalists reporting on mental illness are required. © 2019, © 2019 The Author(s). Published with license by Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.

  • Security and Privacy for the Internet of Drones : Challenges and Solutions
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: IEEE Communications Magazine. - Piscataway : IEEE. - 0163-6804 .- 1558-1896. ; 56:1, s. 64-69
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A recent trend in both industry and research is the Internet of Drones, which has applications in both civilian and military settings. However, drones (also known as unmanned aerial vehicles) are generally not designed with security in mind, and there are fundamental security and privacy issues that need study. Hence, in this article, we study the architecture and its security and privacy requirements. We also outline potential solutions to address challenging issues such as privacy leakage, data confidentiality protection, and flexible accessibility, with the hope that this article will provide the basis for future research in this emerging area.

  • Energy flexibility using the thermal mass of residential buildings
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Energy and Buildings. - Amsterdam : Elsevier. - 0378-7788 .- 1872-6178. ; 301, s. 1-12
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The transition to a more sustainable energy system with a growing amount of intermittent renewable energy sources brings an increasing need for flexibility measures to maintain balance between supply and demand. Buildings represent a promising source of demand-side flexibility due to their large energy demand and thermal mass. This review provides insights into the storage potential of building thermal mass, and the benefits and challenges it brings. It is found that building thermal mass storage have good ability to shift loads on short term, from peak to off-peak hours. This ability can be utilized for different purposes, for instance reduced costs for end-users or energy providers, reduced primary energy demand, or reduced CO2 emissions. Furthermore, this review explores different factors that influence the storage potential of building thermal mass, with special attention paid to the heat emission system. It is shown that hydronic floor heating is beneficial compared to radiators since it directly can activate the thermal mass with smaller impact on the indoor temperature. It is also found that the factor with largest impact is the envelope insulation level; increased insulation level brings improved storage efficiency and prolonged thermal autonomy but also decreased storage capacity and increased risk of overheating. Finally, research gaps are identified. © 2023 The Authors
