  • Unconscious and Conscious Processing of Color Rely on Activity in Early Visual Cortex : A TMS Study
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Journal of cognitive neuroscience. - : MIT Press. - 0898-929X .- 1530-8898. ; 24:4, s. 819-829
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Chromatic information is processed by the visual system both at an unconscious level and at a level that results in conscious perception of color. It remains unclear whether both conscious and unconscious processing of chromatic information depend on activity in the early visual cortex or whether unconscious chromatic processing can also rely on other neural mechanisms. In this study, the contribution of early visual cortex activity to conscious and unconscious chromatic processing was studied using single-pulse TMS in three time windows 40-100 msec after stimulus onset in three conditions: conscious color recognition, forced-choice discrimination of consciously invisible color, and unconscious color priming. We found that conscious perception and both measures of unconscious processing of chromatic information depended on activity in early visual cortex 70-100 msec after stimulus presentation. Unconscious forced-choice discrimination was above chance only when participants reported perceiving some stimulus features (but not color).

  • A Data-Driven Approach to Air Leakage Detection in Pneumatic Systems
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: 2021 Global Reliability and Prognostics and Health Management (PHM-Nanjing). - : IEEE. - 9781665401319 - 9781665401302 - 9781665429795
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • During the transition phase of traditional manufacturing companies towards smart factories, they are likely to experience challenges like lack of prehistoric data recordings or events on which the machine learning models need to be trained. This paper introduces a novel approach of artificially induced anomalies for data labelling. Moreover, for newly installed systems or a setup, which has not seen any kind of malfunction yet, the combination of artificially induced anomalies by experiments and machine learning model help to proactively prepare for any kind of future hindrance of the production systems. Two experiments were performed for detection of air leakage. The first one was designed to identify 'sensitive feature' and understand the behaviour of the sensor readings with respect to different state of the machine. The second one was performed to capture more data points pertaining to leaking state of machine on a normal production day since the first one was conducted on a maintenance break). RUSBoosted bagged trees model was built as a supervised machine-learning model, which was yielded 98.73% accuracy, 99.40% precision, recall of 99.21%, and F1 score of 99.30% on test data for detecting pneumatic leakage. As a conclusion, previously unknown hidden patterns and insights regarding temperature feature along with a standardized and systematic methodology are the important deliverables of this study.

  • A knowledge-based approach to manage information systems interoperability
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Information Systems. - : Elsevier B.V.. - 0306-4379 .- 1873-6076. ; 33:7-8, s. 754-784
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Interoperability is a key property of enterprise applications, which is hard to achieve due to the large number of interoperating components and semantic heterogeneity. The inherent complexity of interoperability problems implies that there exists no silver bullet to solve them. Rather, the knowledge about how to solve wicked interoperability problems is hidden in the application cases that expose those problems. The paper addresses the question of how to organise and use method knowledge to resolve interoperability problems. We propose the structure of a knowledge-based system that can deliver situation-specific solutions, called method chunks. Situational Method Engineering promotes modularisation and formalisation of method knowledge in the form of reusable method chunks, which can be combined to compose a situation-specific method. The method chunks are stored in a method chunk repository. In order to cater for management and retrieval, we introduce an Interoperability Classification Framework, which is used to classify and tag method chunks and to assess the project situation in which they are to be used. The classification framework incorporates technical as well as business and organisational aspects of interoperability. This is an important feature as interoperability problems typically are multifaceted spanning multiple aspects. We have applied the approach to analyse an industry case from the insurance sector to identify and classify a set of method chunks.

  • Panel Discussion : How to Build a Perfect Enterprise Modeling Method
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: PoEM-Forum 2021, The Practice of Enterprise Modeling 2021. - Aachen : RWTH Aachen. ; , s. 78-87, s. 78-87
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper reports on the plenary panel discussion on “How to Build a Perfect Enterprise Modeling Method” held at the PoEM 2021 conference. The panel was charged with finding a pathway to the perfect enterprise modeling method. The panelists have a background in enterprise modeling and method engineering. So, the question is: Can method engineering help with designing a better enterprise modeling environment? The contributions in this paper should be regarded as a snapshot of our viewpoints at the time of the panel.

  • A Literary Excursion Into the Hidden (Fan) Fictional Worlds of Tetris, Starcraft, and Dreamfall
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Breaking New Ground. - : Digital Games Research Association (DiGRA).
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper, we discuss a part of participatory culture that so far has not received much attention in the academic world; it is the writing and reading of game fan fiction. The focus in this paper is on fan fiction, based on three different games that represent three different game genres: Tetris, StarCraft and Dreamfall: The Longest Journey. The aim is to advance our understanding of how players experience and understand the game environment, and promote further research interest in fan fiction based on computer games. We do this by discussing narrative elements in the above mentioned computer games, and the fan fiction that is based on them.

  • A pre-study on spectatorship in eSports
  • 2017
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A pre-study of spectators' perspectives on eSports was conducted in collaboration with two Swedish game development companies. The main goal was to identify factors that contribute to qualitative spectator experiences and how they can influence game design. A qualitative approach was chosen to explore spectators' perspectives on eSports through observations and focus-group interviews of 28 participants in total. Results indicate that spectatorship is a complex issue that goes beyond the mere watching of a game. We identified four themes that are important for qualitative spectator experiences: the need for an overview of game events; highlighting and exposing hidden objects and events; viewer- and commentator-friendly game pacing; the importance of professional commentators and casters. Based on the results, we present design guidelines and recommendations for the development of games in eSports.

  • Artefacts as Mediators of Distributed Social Cognition : A Case Study
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the twenty-sixth annual conference of the Cognitive Science Society, August 4 - 7, 2004, Chicago, Illinois, USA. - : Lawrence Erlbaum Associates. - 0805854649 - 9780805854640 ; , s. 1113-1118
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Traditionally, cognition has been regarded as the outcome of internal cognitive processes manipulating mental representations. More recently, however, it has become clear that cognition cannot be separated from the social and material environment in which people live and act, and that in many cases cognition is distributed among individuals and environmental properties. One important aspect has turned out to be artefacts and their use, and there is growing interest in understanding how tool use affects cognition. However, even with this increased awareness of the role of artefacts, the focus has mainly been on the cognitive processes and representations of individuals, while the social role of artefacts has received less attention. An ethnographically inspired field study, observing a hospital’s children admission unit, was conducted to investigate the way individual and collaborative work are affected by the use of artefacts within a given social context. The results indicate that the use of artefacts is closely coupled to the social environment, that to some degree social interactions are transformed into more indirect, individual processes, and that artefacts are crucial for high-level processes such as memory and coordination.
