  • Fidelity-consistency and deliberateness of modifications in parenting programs
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Implementation Science Communications. - : BioMed Central Ltd. - 2662-2211. ; 5:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: Evidence-based interventions (EBIs) are frequently modified in practice. It is recommended that decisions to modify EBIs should be made deliberately to ensure fidelity-consistency, yet the relationship between fidelity-consistency and deliberateness is not well understood. This study aims to explore modifications in a sample of practitioners delivering evidence-based parenting programs (i.e., interventions to strengthen parent–child relationships, reduce harmful interactions, and improve child health and well-being). The study investigated three research questions: (1) What kind of modifications are made during the delivery of parenting programs? (2) To what degree are the identified modifications consistent with the core functions of each program? and (3) Is deliberateness associated with the fidelity-consistency of the identified modifications? Methods: In total, 28 group leaders of five widely disseminated parenting programs in Sweden participated in five focus groups, and two participants from each group also participated in individual interviews (n = 10). A content analysis approach was used where the identification of modifications was directed by the Framework for Reporting Adaptations and Modifications-Enhanced (FRAME) and then assessed for fidelity-consistency and four levels of deliberateness (universal, situational, conditional, and unintentional). Chi-square tests were performed to compare consistent and inconsistent modifications, and logistic regression was performed to explore whether deliberateness predicted consistency. Results: A total of 137 content modifications were identified, covering most of the content modification categories in FRAME. The most common were tailoring/tweaking/refining, adding elements, shortening/condensing, lengthening/extending, and integrating another treatment. Modifications were mostly fidelity-consistent but consistency varied greatly among categories. Furthermore, modifications made unintentionally or situationally were more likely to be fidelity-inconsistent. Conclusions: These results indicate that explicit consideration of modifications and their impact could be essential for sustaining the fidelity-consistent use of EBIs, even as such interventions are continuously modified.

  • Do startups in the agricultural sector generate employment in the rest of the economy? : An arellano-bond dynamic panel study
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Social capital and development trends in rural areas. - Kyoto : MARG (Marginal Areas Research Group). - 9784907830076 ; , s. 255-273, s. 255-273
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • By means of an Arellano-Bond dynamic panel data study of Swedish data over 1993-2004, it is concluded that startups in the agricultural and forestry sector may cause startups in the remaining sectors of the Swedish economy. Thus, new entries in the agricultural and forestry sector may lead to dynamic effects, which may lead to employment in completely other sectors of the economy. The agricultural and forestry small-business sector is therefore a very important factor in the quest to reduce unemployment and to increase the economic growth in Sweden. Another important finding, outside of the main purpose of this paper, is that the per capita propensity to start a new firm is significantly higher in rural areas compared to urban areas. Consequently, people in rural areas are more entrepreneurial per capita (in the context of starting new firms) compared to the population living in urban areas. A substantially high fraction of the rural population faces the forced option of unemployment or self-employment. However, fortunately, a disproportionally high share of the rural population chooses the latter alternative.

  • Risk Analysis for System of Systems Management : The Swedish COVID-19 Management Case
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: SysCon 2024 - 18th Annual IEEE International Systems Conference, Proceedings. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). - 9798350358803
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A socio-technical system of systems (SoS) is a collaboration of independently operated and managed systems. These constituent systems join the SoS to work together for a common goal: to achieve positive emergent behaviors such as greater capability, efficiency, resource utilization, reliability, and robustness. To achieve such a goal, an SoS needs to be well-managed with mitigation plans for all system risks. However, existing risk management strategies were developed for individual, non-integrated systems and are therefore inadequate for use with SoS. This paper uses the COVID-19 pandemic in Sweden as a case study for exploring risk analysis for SoS management. We performed a risk analysis of this SoS based on STAMP (System-Theoretical Accident Model and Processes), an existing method from the safety domain, as part of developing a preliminary risk analysis process for practitioners. Preliminary results reveal that extended SoS structures, uncertainty-driven decision-making, emerging behavior, and changes in trust, policy, and legislation pose significant challenges. The study's contribution is that our findings provide a knowledge base to act as a guide for risk management of SoS. Applying a method for safety analysis to crisis management also extends the body of knowledge on methods for SoS risk analysis.

  • Systems of Systems Management and Governance from a Risk-Handling Perspective
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: 2024 19th Annual System of Systems Engineering Conference, SoSE 2024. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc.. - 9798350365917 ; , s. 18-23
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Managing a system can be critical for its successful functioning. This is especially crucial for the socio-technical systems of systems (SoS) that characterize many of modern society's critical operations. However, the management of SoS becomes complex as systems are increasingly interconnected and the dependence among connected systems intensifies. This paper explores the current state of the art on SoS management and governance from a risk management perspective. Our findings show a higher focus on SoS management; however, many studies do not holistically deal with the SoS. Moreover, our findings indicate fewer studies in SoS governance. Hence there is still a research gap. The study contributes to the body of knowledge by adding insight into how risk management fits in these domains and provides direction on the possible areas of mitigating risks.

  • Towards a Risk Analysis Method for Systems of Systems : A Case Study on Wildfire Rescue Operations
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Proc. Int. ISCRAM Conf.. - : Information Systems for Crisis Response and Management, ISCRAM. - 9798218217495 ; , s. 530-545, s. 530-545
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Crisis management (CM) is facing new challenges due to the increasing complexity of contemporary society. To mitigate a crisis, it is often necessary for a collection of independent systems, people, and organizations to cooperate. These collaborating entities constitute an interconnected socio-technical system of systems (SoS). An important question is how a CM SoS should be constructed to minimize the risk of failure and accurately handle a crisis. SoS pose new challenges in analysing risk during interactions. This paper investigates whether the risk analysis method STAMP (System-Theoretic Accident Model and Processes) is suitable for SoS, using a forest fire rescue operation case study. Results show characteristics of various risk sources and identify some SoS characteristics, such as dynamic structure and latent risks, that are not sufficiently handled in STAMP. The study further contributes to the body of knowledge by presenting potential directions for research on SoS risk assessment methods.

  • Formal Methods Applied in Industry On the Commercialisation of the UPPAAL tool
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: 2011 35TH IEEE ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL COMPUTER SOFTWARE AND APPLICATIONS CONFERENCE (COMPSAC). - 9780769544397 ; , s. 450-451
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • UPPAAL is a model-checking tool primarily aimed for real-time and embedded systems in which timing plays an important role. It has existed for over 16 years and has become very popular among formal method scientists in academia. In recent years, licenses of the tool have also been offered and sold on commercial basis. In this paper, the characteristics of the tool, its domains of application, as well as some lessons learned from commercializing the tool are described.

  • REMES : A Resource Model for Embedded Systems
  • 2008
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • n this paper, we introduce the model REMES for formal modeling and analysis of embedded resources such as storage, power, communication, and computation. The model is annotated with both discrete and continuous resources. It is in fact a state-machine based behavioral language with support for hierarchalmodeling, continuous time, and a notion of explicit entry and exit points, making it suitable for component-based modeling. The analysis of REMES-based systems is centered around a weighted sum in which the variables represent the amounts of consumed resources. We describe a number of important resource related analysis problems, including feasibility, trade-off, and optimal resource-utilization analysis. To formalize these problems, and to provide a basis for formal analysis, we show how to analyze REMES models using the framework of priced timed automata and weighted CTL. To illustrate the approach, we describe a case study in which it has been applied to model and analyze resource usage of a temperature control system.

  • Appearances of the Paper Paper and the Web Paper
  • 2003
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper we compare the first issue (1830) of the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet with a current issue on the web,173 years later. There are many similarities between the first “paper newspaper” and the current “paper on the web”.Main differences are the different materials available nowadays, and the animation, the search facility and the interac-tivity afforded by the Internet. However, to some respect this “web paper” is more confusing than the old newspaper. This “web paper” does not utilize all opportunities available for a fruitful interactivity.
