  • Safety and the use of management control systems and Key Performance Indicators at a Swedish nuclear powerplant
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: SRA Europe 2nd Nordic Chapter Meeting in Gothenburg 14‐15 November, 2016. - : Gothenburg Research Institute. ; , s. 12-12
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Continuous control, testing and maintenance of systems and components are of utmost importance for maintaining safety at a nuclear power plant (NPP). And key elements for safe practice in organizations overall are often claimed to be adaptation, change and the ability to reflect and maneuver in paradoxical situations.  Identifying new innovative ways of organizing in order to control growing demands regarding safety, efficiency, quality, reliability, profitability etc. is a challenge in all types of organizations. Following this development organizational and management controltheory and practice have progressed rapidly inorganizations in recent years and one profound idea to manage and control for organizational efficiency and success is to implement management control systems (MCS:s) in which Key Performance Indicators (KPI:s) playa key role.  This paper will present an example of when a safety KPI at a NPP was presented as green, orange and red simultaneously within the same NPP. Questions raised were: how could this happen? and what consequences might this have upon safety?  What was found is that different stakeholder demands were being met at different levels of the organization when reporting the safety KPI in three different ways. However no deeper analysis of what consequences this might bring in terms of safety was conducted at anylevel.  There exists some research on how management control systems and KPI:s shape organizational outcomes. However there exists a knowledge gap considering the long term effects the use of such systems and measurements have upon i.e. safety.

  • Exploring gender differences in perceptions of 3D telepresence collaboration technology : An example from emergency medical care.
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of 4th Nordic Conference on Human-Computer Interaction. - : ACM Press. ; , s. 381-
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Previous research on gender differences and collaboration technology illustrate the need to investigate gender issues as early as possible in the development cycle in order to avoid any negative consequences the technology may impose. Therefore we are investigating the potential of 3D telepresence technology now when only a proof-of-concept demonstration of the technology exists. We conducted a controlled lab study using a post-test design in which male and female paramedics diagnosed and treated a trauma victim (a computerized mannequin) in collaboration with a physician via 2D video or a 3D proxy. The results show several gender differences that imply male paramedics may inherently receive more benefits from use of the 3D telepresence technology than female paramedics.

  • “You guys who download stuff illegally, don’t you ever feel guilty?” : Initial analysis of changes in practices and values among Swedish illegal file sharers 2007-2012
  • 2013
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The study reports on the practices of illegal file sharing in Sweden during the period 2007-2012. More than 1.000 posts in response to the question “You guys who download stuff illegally, don’t you ever feel guilty?” where analyzed with regard to the respondents’ expressed senses of guilt, whether file sharing was right or wrong, if they buy media, together with dimensions of stakeholders and media genres. Preliminary results suggest that no changes in feelings of guilt were detected during the time period. However, more posts report to now buy media, while at there at the same time seem to be an increase in posts expressing file sharing, despite its current illegal status, is a right thing to do. A qualitative analysis is needed to further understand the complexity of current changes in file sharers justifications for what content to acquire through illegal file sharing, what they choose to pay for – and why.
