  • Bidirectional associations between psychosocial well-being and adherence to healthy dietary guidelines in European children: prospective findings from the IDEFICS study
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Bmc Public Health. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1471-2458. ; 17:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: In children the relationship between a healthy diet and psychosocial well-being has not been fully explored and the existing evidence is inconsistent. This study investigates the chronology of the association between children's adherence to healthy dietary guidelines and their well-being, with special attention to the influence of weight status on the association. Methods: Seven thousand six hundred seventy five children 2 to 9 years old from the eight-country cohort study IDEFICS were investigated. They were first examined between September 2007 and June 2008 and re-examined again 2 years later. Psychosocial well-being was measured using self-esteem and parent relations questions from the KINDL (R) and emotional and peer problems from the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire. A Healthy Dietary Adherence Score (HDAS) was calculated from a 43-item food frequency questionnaire as a measure of the degree to which children's dietary intake follows nutrition guidelines. The analysis employed multilevel logistic regression (country as random effect) with bidirectional modeling of dichotomous dietary and well-being variables as both exposures and outcomes while controlling for respective baseline values. Results: A higher HDAS at baseline was associated with better self-esteem (OR 1.2, 95% CI 1.0; 1.4) and fewer emotional and peer problems (OR 1.2, 95% CI 1.1; 1.3 and OR 1.3, 95% CI 1.2; 1.4) 2 years later. For the reversed direction, better self-esteem was associated with higher HDAS 2 years later (OR 1.1 95% CI 1.0; 1.29). The analysis stratified by weight status revealed that the associations between higher HDAS at baseline and better well-being at follow-up were similar in both normal weight and overweight children. Conclusion: Present findings suggest a bidirectional relation between diet quality and self-esteem. Additionally, higher adherence to healthy dietary guidelines at baseline was associated with fewer emotional and peer problems at follow-up, independent of children's weight status.

  • Identification of factors influencing dispersion in split-plot experiments
  • 2001
  • Ingår i: Journal of Applied Statistics. - 0266-4763 .- 1360-0532. ; 28:3-4, s. 269-283
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • As split-plot designs are commonly used in robust design it is important to identify factors in these designs that influence the dispersion of the response variable. In this article, the Bergman-Hynen method, developed for identification of dispersion effects in unreplicated experiments, is modified to be used in the context of split-plot experiments. The modification of the Bergman-Hynen method enables identification of factors that influence specific variance components in unreplicated two-level fractional factorial split-plot experiments. An industrial example is used to illustrate the proposed method.

  • Law and Disorder in the Postcolony? Law, Missionaries, and the Utopias of Pre-colonial to Present-day Kongo DRC
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Law and Society Association Annual Meeting 2022.
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Our panel turns to history to understand challenges to law and order in the present; examining the present-day ‘failed state’ of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Drawing on unique archival material, centring on the activities of Mission Covenant Church of Sweden (Svenska Missionskyrkan) in lower Congo, 1881–1961, we take on the well-established thesis that ‘disorder’ in the contemporary ‘postcolony’ flows from how the introduction of law and order was pursued during the pre-colonial and colonial era. In this panel Christian and Global North contributions towards the establishment of the Rule of Law, as well as the international legal interests and investments, in contemporary Congo DRC are examined through critical international legal, social-anthropological, and historical trajectories.

    • This site communicates the findings and activities in our project. In our project we turn to history in order to better understand challenges to law and order in our present time; specifically, examining the present-day fragmented and ‘failed state’ of Congo (DRC), often described as lacking in terms of the Rule of Law and adequate legal institutions is re-examined in light of the rule of law activities pursued in the lower Congo by Swedish missionaries from the Mission Covenant Church of Sweden (Svenska Missionskyrkan), 1881-1961. Following the well-established thesis that ‘disorder’ in the contemporary ‘postcolony’ flows from how the introduction of law and order was pursued during the pre-colonial and colonial era, our project revisits the Swedish contribution to the establishment of the Rule of Law in contemporary DRC, in order to better understand legal fragmentation and pluralism was introduced in the pre-colonial and colonial era. We draw on unique archival material, as well as contemporary empirical data, with the aim to develop a substantiated holistic approach to legal fragmentation and state state-building initiatives in the contemporary DRC.

  • Cashless society : When will merchants stop accepting cash in Sweden - a research model
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Enterprise Applications, Markets and Services in the Finance Industry, Financecom 2016. - Cham : Springer. - 9783319527635 ; , s. 105-113
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Over the past decades, we have witnessed changes into how individual’s pay. In particular, there has been a drop in the use of cash as payment instrument both in terms of value and frequency. Consequently, the amount of outstanding cash is shrinking. For instance, in Sweden the level of cash is around 1.5% of Gross Domestic Product. This might be a tipping point for when cash is of practical use. In the paper, we present a research model that explores when merchants will stop accepting cash.
