Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
- Supersymmetric orbifold projection of N = 1 SQCD with relatively small number of flavors (N(f) ≤ N(c)) is considered. The purpose is to check whether orbifolding commutes with the infrared limit. On the one hand, one considers the orbifold projection of SQCD and obtains the low-energy description of the resulting theory. On the other hand, one starts with the low-energy effective theory of the original SQCD, and only then performs orbifolding. It is shown that at finite N(c) the two low-energy theories obtained in these ways are different. However, in the case of stabilized run-away vacuum these two theories are shown to coincide in the large N(c) limit. In the case of quantum modified moduli space, topological solitons carrying baryonic charges are present in the orbifolded low-energy theory. These solitons may restore the correspondence between the two theories provided that the soliton mass tends to zero in the large N(c) limit. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V.

Diverse collective excitations in Er-159 up to high spin
- 2011
-
Ingår i: Physical Review C (Nuclear Physics). - 0556-2813. ; 84:5
-
Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
- A spectroscopic investigation of the gamma decays from excited states in Er-159 has been performed to study the changing structural properties exhibited as ultrahigh spins (I > 60 (h) over bar) are approached. The nucleus of Er-159 was populated by the reaction Cd-116(Ca-48, 5n gamma) at a beam energy of 215 MeV, and the resulting gamma decays were studied using the Gammasphere spectrometer. New rotational bands and extensions to existing sequences were observed, which are discussed in terms of the cranked shell model, revealing a diverse range of quasiparticle configurations. At spins around 50 (h) over bar, there is evidence for a change from dominant prolate collective motion at the yrast line to oblate non-collective structures via the mechanism of band termination. A possible strongly deformed triaxial band occurs at these high spins, which indicates collectivity beyond 50 (h) over bar. The high-spin data are interpreted within the framework of cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky calculations.

Collective and noncollective states in (120)Te
- 2012
-
Ingår i: Physical Review C (Nuclear Physics). - 0556-2813. ; 85:1
-
Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
- High-spin states in (120)Te were populated in the reaction (80)Se((48)Ca, alpha 4n)(120)Te at a beam energy of 207 MeV and gamma-ray coincidences were measured using the Gammasphere spectrometer. The previously known level scheme is extended to higher spin and new interband transitions and side-feeding branches are established. Five highly deformed rotational bands, extending up to almost I = 50, are observed for the first time. The bands are compared with similar structures found recently in neighboring nuclei. The experimental results are interpreted within the framework of the cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky model. Configuration assignments to several terminating states and to the high-spin bands are discussed.

Revised level structure of Te-120
- 2014
-
Ingår i: Physical Review C (Nuclear Physics). - 0556-2813. ; 90:3
-
Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
- The level scheme of the nucleus Te-120, populated in the reaction Se-80(Ca-48, alpha 4n), was reinvestigated using gamma-ray coincidence data measured with the Gammasphere spectrometer. Previously, five high-spin rotational bands were discovered in this nucleus. The present reinvestigation revealed that the decay of band b1 is more complex than suggested in the earlier work and that it cannot be uniquely determined. Furthermore, a number of new transitions are added to the level scheme. The implications for the spin assignments and excitation energies of the five bands and for comparisons with cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky calculations are discussed.

Quadrupole moments of coexisting collective shapes at high spin in Er-154
- 2013
-
Ingår i: Physical Review C (Nuclear Physics). - 0556-2813. ; 88:3

Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
- Four high-spin collective bands have been populated in Er-154(68)86 via the Pd-110(Ti-48, (4)n gamma)Er-154 reaction. Average transition quadrupole moments Q(t) have been measured for three of the bands by using the Doppler-shift attenuation method. The strongest band has a value of Q(t) = 11.0 +/- 1.0 e b, similar to values found recently for four triaxial strongly deformed (TSD) bands in Er-157,Er-158. The second band has a value of Q(t) = 19.5 +/- 3.2 e b, consistent with a predicted axially symmetric superdeformed (SD) shape, similar in deformation to the Dy-152 isotone, and is used as a calibration point. The third, new band has a value of Q(t) = 9.9 +/- 2.2 e b. The results confirm the unexpectedly large Q(t) moments for the favored TSD bands in light erbium isotopes.

Relative quadrupole moments of exotic shapes at ultrahigh spin in 154Er : Calibrating the TSD/SD puzzle
- 2012

Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
- Transition quadrupole moments, Qt, of two ultrahigh-spin, collective structures in 154Er have been measured for the first time using the Doppler Shift Attenuation Method (DSAM). Data were acquired at the ATLAS accelerator facility of Argonne National Laboratory, using the Gammasphere detector array. A thick, gold-backed 110Pd foil was bombarded by a beam of 48Ti ions at 215 MeV. The Qt for each band was determined from the Doppler shift of gamma rays emitted by the resulting recoil nuclei. The extracted transition quadrupole moments are significantly different in magnitude, suggesting the two structures in 154Er represent distinct exotic nuclear shapes, namely axial superdeformed (SD) with Q t 20 eb, and triaxial strongly deformed (TSD) with Qt ≈ 11 eb. Indeed, the results calibrate the quadrupole moments of TSD bands recently measured in light erbium nuclei, 157,158Er.

Core excitations beyond maximally aligned configurations in I-123
- 2012
-
Ingår i: Physical Review C (Nuclear Physics). - 0556-2813. ; 85:3
-
Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
- High-spin states in I-123 have been populated in the Se-80(Ca-48, p4n) I-123 reaction at 207 MeV and gamma-ray coincidence events have been recorded with the Gammasphere spectrometer. The level scheme of I-123 has been extended up to spin I = 63/2. The nucleus undergoes a shape transition from moderately deformed states with collective rotation at low spins to noncollective oblate configurations at higher spins. Maximally aligned terminating states involving all nine particles outside the Sn-114 core and states with one particle antialigned are identified. A large number of weak transitions feed the terminating states. Cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky calculations have been performed to determine possible configurations for the observed energy levels.

Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
- High-spin states in I-123 were populated in the reaction Se-80(Ca-48,p4n)I-123 at a beam energy of 207 MeV and gamma-ray coincidence events were measured using the Gammasphere spectrometer. Three weakly populated, high-spin rotational bands have been discovered with characteristics similar to those of the long collective bands recently observed in other nuclei of this mass region. Configuration assignments are proposed based on calculations within the framework of the cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky approach. DOI: 10.1103/PhysRevC.86.067305

Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
- Excited states in the N = Z - 2 nucleus (44)V have been observed for the first time. The states have been identified through particle-gamma-gamma coincidence relationships and comparison with analog states in themirror nucleus (44)Sc. Mirror energy differences have been extracted and compared to state-of-the-art shell-model calculations which include charge-symmetry-breaking forces. Observed decay pattern asymmetries between the mirror pair are discussed in terms of core excitations, electromagnetic spin-orbit effects and isospin mixing.
