Search for Single Vectorlike Quarks in p(p)over-bar Collisions at root s=1.96 TeV

- We present a search for hypothetical vectorlike quarks in p (p) over bar collisions at root s = 1.96 TeV. The data were collected by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb(-1). We select events with a final state composed of a W or Z boson and a jet consistent with a heavy object decay. We observe no significant excess in comparison to the background prediction and set limits on production cross sections for vectorlike quarks decaying to W + jet and Z + jet. These are the most stringent limits to date for electroweak single vectorlike quark production at hadron colliders.

- We present a search for the standard model Higgs boson (H) in p (p) over bar collisions at root s = 1.96 TeV in events containing a charged lepton (l), missing transverse energy, and at least two jets, using 5.4 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity recorded with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. This analysis is sensitive primarily to Higgs bosons produced through the fusion of two gluons or two electroweak bosons, with subsequent decay H -> WW -> lvq'(q) over bar, where l is an electron or muon. The search is also sensitive to contributions from other production channels, such as WH -> lvb (b) over bar. In the absence of a signal, we set limits at the 95% C.L. on the cross section for H production sigma(p (p) over bar -> H + X) in these final states. For a mass of M-H = 160 GeV, the limit is a factor of 3.9 larger than the cross section in the standard model and consistent with an a priori expected sensitivity of 5.0.

- We present a search for associated production of Higgs and W bosons in p (p) over bar collisions at a center of mass energy of root s = 1.96 TeV in 5.3 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity recorded by the DO experiment. Multivariate analysis techniques are applied to events containing one lepton, an imbalance in transverse energy, and one or two b-tagged jets to discriminate a potential WH signal from Standard Model backgrounds. We observe good agreement between data and expected backgrounds, and set an upper limit of 4.5 (at 95% confidence level and for m(H) = 115 GeV) on the ratio of the WH cross section multiplied by the branching fraction of H -> b (b) over bar to its Standard Model prediction, which is consistent with an expected limit of 4.8.

- We present the first observation of the Z gamma -> nu(nu) over bar gamma process at the Fermilab Tevatron at 5.1 standard deviations significance, based on 3.6 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron p (p) over bar Collider at root s = 1.96 TeV. The measured Z gamma production cross section multiplied by the branching fraction of Z -> nu(nu) over bar is 32 +/- 9(stat + syst) +/- 2(lumi) fb for the photon E-T > 90 GeV. It is in agreement with the standard model prediction of 39 +/- 4 fb. We set limits on anomalous trilinear Z gamma gamma and ZZ gamma gauge boson couplings, most of which are the most restrictive to date.

- We present cross section measurements for Z/gamma* + jets + X production, differential in the transverse momenta of the three leading jets. The data sample was collected with the DO detector at the Fermilab Tevatron p (p) over bar collider at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 1 fb(-1). Leading and next-to-leading order perturbative QCD predictions are compared with the measurements. and agreement is found within the theoretical and experimental uncertainties. We also make comparisons with the predictions of four event generators. Two parton-shower-based generators show significant shape and normalization differences with respect to the data. In contrast, two generators combining tree-level matrix elements with a parton shower give a reasonable description of the shapes observed in data. but the predicted normalizations show significant differences with respect to the data, reflecting large scale Uncertainties. For specific choices of scales, the normalizations for either generator can be made to agree with the measurements.

Observation of Single Top-Quark Production

- We report observation of the electroweak production of single top quarks in pp collisions at s=1.96 TeV based on 2.3 fb(-1) of data collected by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. Using events containing an isolated electron or muon and missing transverse energy, together with jets originating from the fragmentation of b quarks, we measure a cross section of sigma(pp -> tb+X,tqb+X)=3.94 +/- 0.88 pb. The probability to measure a cross section at this value or higher in the absence of signal is 2.5x10(-7), corresponding to a 5.0 standard deviation significance for the observation.

- We present a search for the standard model Higgs boson in final states with an electron or muon and a hadronically decaying tau lepton in association with zero, one, or two or more jets using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of up to 7.3 fb(-1) collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. The analysis is sensitive to Higgs boson production via gluon-gluon fusion, associated vector boson production, and vector boson fusion, and to Higgs boson decays to tau tau, WW, ZZ and b (b) over bar pairs. Observed (expected) limits are set on the ratio of 95% C.L. upper limits on the cross section times branching ratio, relative to those predicted by the Standard Model, of 22 (14) at a Higgs boson mass of 115 GeV and 6.8 (7.7) at 165 GeV.

- We present a search for the standard model Higgs boson in 9.5 fb(-1) of p (p) over bar collisions at root s = 1.96 TeV collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The final state considered contains a pair of b jets and is characterized by an imbalance in transverse energy, as expected from p (p) over bar -> ZH -> nu(nu) over barb (b) over bar production. The search is also sensitive to the WH -> l nu b (b) over bar channel when the charged lepton is not identified. The data are found to be in good agreement with the expected background. For a Higgs boson mass of 125 GeV, we set a limit at the 95% C.L. on the cross section sigma(p (p) over bar -> vertical bar Z/W vertical bar H), assuming standard model branching fractions, that is a factor of 4.3 times larger than the theoretical standard model value, while the expected factor is 3.9. The search is also used to measure a combined WZ and ZZ production cross section that is a factor of 0.94 +/- 0.31 (stat) +/- 0.34 (syst) times the standard model prediction of 4.4 pb, with an observed significance of 2.0 standard deviations. - We present a search for Kaluza-Klein (KK) particles predicted by models with universal extra dimensions (UED) using a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 7.3 fb(-1), collected by the D0 detector at a p (p) over bar center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. The decay chain of KK particles can lead to a final state with two muons of the same charge. This signature is used to set a lower limit on the compactification scale of R-1 > 260 GeV in a minimal UED model.

Search for Violation of Lorentz Invariance in Top Quark Pair Production and Decay

- Using data collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider, corresponding to 5: 3 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity, we search for violation of Lorentz invariance by examining the t (t) over bar production cross section in lepton + jets final states. We quantify this violation using the standard-model extension framework, which predicts a dependence of the t (t) over bar production cross section on sidereal time as the orientation of the detector changes with the rotation of the Earth. Within this framework, we measure components of the matrices (c(Q))(mu nu 33) and (c(U))(mu nu 33) containing coefficients used to parametrize violation of Lorentz invariance in the top quark sector. Within uncertainties, these coefficients are found to be consistent with zero.
